Analytical analysis of effect of sampling plan on Cpk 抽样方案对Cpk影响的分析分析

The use and abuse of process capability indices (PCIs) have become topics of considerable controversy in the last few years. A simulation shows that the difference in Cpk's estimated by three approaches, which are widely used in manufacturing industry, is at least 0.5. In this paper, the authors study analytically the differences in Cpk's calculated by these three different approaches. A few analytical relationships among the Cpk's are derived in this paper and are illustrated with a case study.

Reducing time to market through optimization with respect to soft factors 通过对软因素的优化,缩短产品上市时间

One of the most important measures of the productivity of an organization is the time to market of the products. There is a constant need to reduce it to meet the increasing demand of the customers and to gain more competitiveness. There are many technical issues that affect the time to market and sometimes they cannot be changed due to the high cost of purchasing new equipment and the training of the employees. In a previous study, some soft factors and their impact on time to market in software development have been studied and an interesting conclusion is that they strongly affect the time to market and they are helpful in planning and controlling time to market. The focus in this paper is to study the implementation of the proposed model in reducing time to market through optimization of soft factors. The results are useful for management in their decision-making for controlling the time to market.

Managing technology dynamics-a framework for national R&D planning 技术动态管理——国家研发规划的框架

The paper deals with the role end dynamics of national technology development and R&D planning in the case of Singapore. The country's past strategy in overcoming inherent factor disadvantages and the current strategy to meet the ongoing challenges in coping with structural changes are briefly reviewed. A framework for further growth is proposed by suggesting a distributed effort in technology development. The framework incorporates a national R&D planning matrix which proposes a division of labour in R&D among the major sectors or players of the industry to undertake various types or levels of R&D tasks. The importance of organisational learning at national level is also emphasised as vital to generate the technology shift to higher level of competence and sophistication.

Simulation for evaluating machine and AGV scheduling rules in an FMS environment FMS环境下评估机器和AGV调度规则的仿真

This paper reports the results of a simulation study investigating the performance of dynamic scheduling decisions for a job shop type flexible manufacturing system (FMS). The study has been realized on a model of a hypothetical FMS. In order to realistically mimic the complexities and the dynamic behavior of a real-life FMS, both the policies handling unexpected machine breakdowns and also controlling the movement of active AGVs have been modeled in detail.

In an increasingly innovation-based competitive environment, small manufacturing firms are compelled to extract more out of their technological innovations to render their efforts worthwhile. The sale of technology through outward licensing is one way to obtain greater returns on the investments that developed the technology. This paper explores the economic and strategic issues of such a practice and concludes that with the right approach and appropriate support, it is indeed feasible.

The United States electric utility industry, which is composed of over 3,214 utilities, expends over $20 to $30 billion annually on equipment and construction. The objective of the study presented in this paper was to determine current US utility procurement practices and compare them to a world class standard. The study's conclusions are outlined by the author.

Evaluating scale economics impact of commerce automation on retail trade in Taiwan 商业自动化对台湾零售业的规模经济影响评估

The economies of scale for the commerce automation adopters and nonadopters are measured from a Taiwanese national survey of retail trade, respectively. In this paper, the production function is specified as an additive nonparametric model for the empirical study. The findings of this paper show that the impact of altering the contour of economies of scale through commerce automation drives is significant.

An interactive systematic hierarchy model for strategic R&D decision making in a dynamic environment 动态环境下战略研发决策的交互式系统层次模型

An interactive systematic hierarchy (ISH) model is developed by synthesising the systems approach and the analytic hierarchy process. It is applied to strategic R&D decision making in a dynamic environment. The analysis systematically structures the interdependent decision making tasks associated with such problems into hierarchical intermediate modules. Identification of appropriate criteria is shown to depend on individual task environments, with modular decision constrained to be consistent over time with criteria thus obtained as well as the firm's strategic objectives.

Electronic product development in Singapore 新加坡电子产品开发

Singapore has built up its manufacturing capability in electronic products. Its next logical move is to upgrade its technology structure and promote research and new product development. However, many issues have to be addressed in moving a country known for its excellence in manufacturing to one known for its new products. From interviews with companies engaged in electronic product development and anecdotal evidences, it is envisaged that shortage of R&D manpower will be a major constraint in Singapore's drive to promote R&D. Other limitations include weak supporting services in prototype development and a small domestic market. Some of these issues are not insurmountable and solutions and actions are being taken to overcome them. The understanding of the various issues involved provides the foundation for further research into the management of product development in Singapore in particular and in developing countries in general.
