A Report on “Indonesian Nutrition Capacity Assessment” for the World Public Health Nutrition Association (WPHNA) stated that “nutrition status in Indonesia has improved markedly the decades leading up to 2000, to the point that UNICEF has concluded that Indonesia is likely to reach the nutrition target in MDG” (1). Articles in other international nutrition journals had similar conclusions. Indonesia was considered to be a success story in nutrition programs in the 1980s (2,3,4,5).

Introduction: The study's objective was to identify and analyse the responses of food industry actors in Brazil to the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted a qualitative analysis of information available in the public domain and published between 1 March and 30 September 2020. Results: The actions of the food industry in Brazil during the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic primarily focused on the donation of medical equipment, hygiene and food products, including ultra-processed foods, and the provision of advice and information about COVID-19, with no oversight from health bodies. Food industry actors also promoted their actions to care for their workers' health and other needs. Conclusions: In the context of a global crisis causing enormous disruption in people's lives, the involvement of different actors in the response to the pandemic may have been helpful in the short term. However, these actions could also have resulted in negative public health consequences if they were, in reality, driven by a search for profits.

The achievement of ambitious health goals depends on strategies through which their achievement could realistically be expected. Sometimes, pathways are known but not used. Treating goals as rights could strengthen the motivation to follow them. Rights-bearers and their representatives would know their rights. Duty-bearers would be clearly identified and held accountable for doing what they are supposed to do. Thus, important nutrition goals might be more likely to be achieved if the goals were treated as rights.

Introduction: The aim of this qualitative research was to gain a greater understanding of the factors that influence young child feeding perceptions and practices in families with children under the age of five years old in London Borough of Tower Hamlets, in the context of rising childhood obesity levels in England. Methodology: The target group were mothers with children under five, mother in laws, service providers and carers. The participants were selected using purposeful, convenience and snowball sampling methods. Data were collected from 21 key informant interviews, 2 direct observations of health promotion sessions and 18 focus groups. The focus group discussions included 119 participants: 95 women who were mothers, 3 mother in laws and 21 service providers. A thematic analysis was used to identify four themes: knowledge not leading to changes, communication challenges, barriers to improving family healthy eating practices, and the lack of public health nutrition services. Findings:  Knowledge had not led to behaviour change: Participants demonstrated high levels of knowledge on what constitutes healthy eating such as increasing the amount of fruit and vegetables their children eat while reducing sugar, salt and fat intake. Information was sought mainly from the internet, friends and family, but participants would prefer a one-to-one session with a health worker. Communication challenges: Misleading messages negatively affected food choices. Participants raised the problem of mixed messages regarding what was a healthy snack, as many food labels targeting young children carry misleading health claims such as “two of your five a day” or “organic,” despite having extremely high levels of sugar.   Barriers to improving family healthy eating practices: The challenges experienced when trying to improve their children’s eating habits included the cost of healthy food options, the lack of time to buy and prepare healthy options, unhealthy treats given by family and friends, and the unhealthy takeaway food environment. Lack of public health nutrition services and support: There was a lack of clarity regarding who mothers and service providers should refer to regarding nutrition problems such as fussy eating, portion sizes, and diet diversity. Half of the early years’ service providers that were interviewed had no training on healthy eating guidelines, although training had been planned. Parents did not think the sugar tax would have a significant impact on the consumption of sugar or on childhood obesity levels.

Dysphagia – difficulties in swallowing – are a major factor involved in malnutrition in many cases. Nutritionists can benefit from better understanding this complex process. “Comprehensive Management of Swallowing Disorders” by Ricardo L. Carrau, Thomas Murry and Rebecca J. Howell (San Diego, CA: Plural Publishing: 2017) is one of the most comprehensive books on dysphagia. Its contents inform on the nature of swallowing, the etiology of relevant disease, evaluations, diagnosis and interventions for swallowing problems in adults. It could thus be useful for nutritionists and dietitions, pediatricians, occupational therapists, gastroenterologists, otorhinolaryngologists, neurologists, surgeons, speech and language pathologists, and families of patients with swallowing problems. This second edition textbook, which was published in 2017, is divided into seven sections that each address a fundamental knowledge gap, providing a comprehensive foundation from which future treatment innovation can be made.

This study was conducted to determine the media image and its impact on body image and nutrition status of 100 professional female volleyball players aged between 18-30 in teams affiliated to the Turkish Volleyball Federation. Their dietary habits and use of food supplement products were recorded with a questionnaire prepared by the researcher and administered face-to-face. Anthropometric measurements taken, body mass indexes (BMI) calculated, body compositions determined with bioelectric impedance analysis, and 24-hour retrospective nutrient consumption records were taken. The “Sociocultural Attitudes Towards Appearance Scale” (SATAQ-3) was used in order to evaluate the media image of women volleyball players. The (PSPP) and “Body Parts and Properties Satisfaction Scale” were used for determining their level of satisfaction with their own appearance. The average age of this sample of female volleyball players was 24.3±3.55 years. Their body mass index (BMI) was 20.7±1.48 kg/m2 on average. A statistically significant negative relationship was found between “feeling pressure from the media” (a sub-dimension of the SATAQ-3), and “body attractiveness” a sub-dimension of the PSPP.   Feelings of body attractiveness decreased as media pressure increased (p<0.05). A statistically significant negative relationship was found between trying to look like the celebrities in the media and “sports talent and body attractiveness” (p<0.05). Participants felt their bodies were less attractive as compared with celebrities (p<0.05). No significant relationship was found between the sub-dimensions of the SATAQ-3and the “Body Parts and Properties Satisfaction Scale” (p>0.05). We conclude that media image can be an important risk factor for increased body dissatisfaction, impaired body perception, and the formation of a negative body image in female Turkish volleyball players.
