Objective: to analyze depressive symptoms and its associated factors, the use of antidepressants and the presence of a diagnosis of depression in the elderly. Methods: cross-sectional study with 248 elderly people attended in Basic Health Units using the Geriatric Depression Scale - Short Form. A chi-square test, the odds ratio and a binary logistic regression were used to analyze the data. Results: depressive symptoms were identified in 32.7% of the elderly, 25.4% with scores indicative of mild depression and 7.3% of severe depression. Physical activity and comorbidities were the factors associated with the presence of depressive symptoms. Among the elderly, 22.2% presented a previous diagnosis of depression and 17.0% of them used antidepressants. Conclusion: depressive symptoms were associated with physical inactivity and comorbidities. Fewer than half of the elderly with indicatives of severe depression used antidepressants. The report of a previous diagnosis of depression was more frequent than the indicatives of severe depression.

Objective: to understand the process of continuing education by primary health care nurses and their interfaces with ambulatory care sensitive conditions. Methods: a qualitative study was carried out with 14 nurses from health units. To collect the data, we used semi-structured interviews and the analysis was carried out through dialectical hermeneutics. Results: two categories emerged: Assistance in primary health care and hospital admissions – which pointed out that the major cause of hospitalizations is related to chronic diseases, and that most of them were preventable; Education: a tool to deal with ambulatory care sensitive conditions – where continuing education is recognized as a tool to interfere in the occurrence of these hospitalizations, but the practices carried out are closer to continuing education. Conclusion: nurses have developed educational processes that are closer to continuing education. The relationship between continuing education and ambulatory care sensitive conditions is still incipient.

Objective: to analyze the area distribution of cervical cancer screening. Methods: a cross-sectional study was carried out with 211 women, aged 38-69 years. The georeferencing technique was used to obtain geographic information, with coordinates of Global Positioning System. Results: of the 211 women, 93.8% (198) underwent an oncotic cytology examination. Of these, 74.2% (147) were examined at irregular intervals. 16 cases of human papillomavirus with cervical oncotic cytology reports with Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia I, II and III were georeferenced. Conclusion: the area distribution of cervical cancer screening allowed the identification of coverage above the recommendations of the Brazilian Ministry of Health. In addition, in relation to the intervals between the cervical oncology cytology tests, the majority demonstrated execution at inappropriate intervals.

In September 2015, the (United Nations) UN member countries approved the Global Plan for Sustainable Development with the purpose of enhancing economic, social and environmental indicators for the next generations. This plan is the result of a process started in Brazil, in 2012, during the Rio + 20 Conference, which followed a wide consultation system to ensure diversified perspectives and experiences in the composition of the Post-2015 Agenda. The new agenda titled “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” consists of a Declaration with 17 Objectives and 169 goals intended to guide the actions of the international community in the following years (2016-2030), thereby helping countries to achieve sustainable development.

Objective: to analyze the epidemiological trends of leprosy in an endemic state. Methods: ecological study of temporal trends. The data were taken from the National Disease Notification System and analyzed through a generalized linear regression using the Prais Winsten method. Results: a total of 12,134 new cases of leprosy were analyzed. There was a downward trend of -4.8% in the overall detection rate and of -6.7% in the detection rate in children under 15 years of age. The proportion of new cases of leprosy with grade 2 physical disability at diagnosis showed a stationary trend of 2.7%. It is noteworthy that the trends of epidemiological indicators of leprosy are heterogeneous among the macro-regions of the health system. Conclusion: the incidence of leprosy declined in the general population, in children under 15 years of age, and the proportion of grade 2 disability showed stability. Despite the decline, it is evident that diagnoses occur late and the transmission remains active.

Objective: to analyze the scientific evidence on cultural influence in child care. Methods: integrative review of the literature with metassynthesis, carried out in six databases, without limits regarding the year of publication, using the descriptors “Culture” and “Child Care”, in the Portuguese, English and Spanish languages. Data evaluated were through content analysis and in light of the constructs of Leininger’s theory. Results: seven articles were selected, from which two categories emerged: interface between professional care systems and culture; and interface between generic care systems and culture. Conclusion: culture influences the general care given to children, especially related to respiratory problems, malnutrition and burns. The use of medicinal plants, homemade teas and taking to a folk healer are examples of popular practices that permeate the routine of care provided to children.

Objective: to analyze the trend of epidemiological indicators of leprosy related to diagnosis and physical disability. Methods: ecological study of time series. The secondary data were extracted from the Brazilian Notifiable Diseases Information System. Prais-Winsten generalized linear analysis was used for trend analysis. Results: 240,028 new cases of leprosy were analyzed. The Northeast region showed a decreasing annual trend (-2.9%) for general detection. As for disability, there are differences among the states of Bahia (4.9%), Alagoas (4.1%), Piaui (2.5%), Maranhao (2.2%) and Ceara (2.1%), which presented increasing trend to grade 2 ratio in the general population. Bahia (9.5%), Sergipe (6.6%) and Maranhao (4.9%) also presented an increasing trend to grade 2 among children. Conclusion: the Northeast region has remained at a very high endemicity level for leprosy with a difference in the distribution of the disease among the states. It was shown active transmission of the bacillus, late diagnosis and underreporting in the region.
