Accessibility and usability are two important concepts for universal design but have been given less emphasis by most developers especially when developing web interfaces. Among the affected users are the elderly people who are facing difficulties interacting with the computer devices as the interface could not fully support the changes in their sensorial, motor and cognitive abilities. The objective of this study is to elicit elderly readers’ opinions on the interface of eText in order to support their reading. It discovers elderly people preferences on the background and font color on the interface for reading. The study is motivated by reported work claiming that these two interface elements could support the elders in reading. Through an interview, a suitable contrast color of background and text was determined. The findings were used to design an e-text interface and tested with elderly people. The study findings could help designers to better design e-text interface for elderly readers.

Text Simplification (TS) is one of the directions for recent studies in NLP. The TS aims to rewrite the complicated text into a simpler sentence, which is easier to understand by human and machine. Several applications such as the development of the Simple Wikipedia corpus are derived from those studies. The studies involve a different technique in order to achieve the objective of TS in terms of structure and the meaning of human language. In this paper, we used narrative review as review methodology and highlighted the purpose of TS, TS-user, TS approaches and techniques, datasets, evaluation metrics as well as challenges in formalizing TS in Malay corpus. Promising results are expected for TS in Malay corpus.

Various online learning platforms have evolved as trends in education in the field of open-distance teaching and learning. However, until now, identifying and understanding on the behavior and intention of users for online learning platform remains a vital concern as the awareness and acceptance ratio of these platforms are still low among the Malaysians, especially the urban poor. The objective of this paper is to discuss on a proposed acceptance framework of online learning platform for urban poor communities. This study aims to identify the factors that will influence the users’ behavioral intention to accept online learning platform. A pilot test was performed to consider the reliability of the factors through a survey. Thus, data for pilot testing was collected via an online survey which 35 respondents are from Klang Valley area to assess their awareness and feedback on Online Learning Platforms. The results have shown that most of the factors in the proposed acceptance framework are reliable. Therefore, the factors of the proposed acceptance framework are relevance and acceptable for future real test on a larger scale. It is hoped that the proposed acceptance framework can be beneficial in taking into concern the factors for ensuring users are intent to participate and can get advantages from the online learning platform technology.

Cloud computing is a paradigm that has already evolved. Cloud computing moved widely to microservices from monoliths. The modular cloud application has gained attention for Microservices. Intensive network communication is required to call the interdependent microservices operating inside the cloud nodes. This research focuses on container-based microservices pre-distribution techniques and proposes two distribution strategies i.e. design pattern distribution and random distribution. The microservices are arbitrarily distributed to the available data centers in the random allocation method. While the microservices are clustered in the pattern distribution based on behavioral design patterns, which identify common contact patterns between entities. A custom-built modeling environment has been used to evaluate the proposed method. The findings revealed that the pre-distribution of microservices in accordance with the application architecture trend led to substantial less response time for the calls made to services hosted at geographically dispersed data centers.

A high volume of unstructured data is being generated from diverse and heterogeneous sources. The unstructured data analytics process is used to extract valuable insights from these unstructured data sources but unlocking useful and usable information is critical for analytics. Despite advancements in technologies, data preparation requires an inordinate amount of time in unstructured data manipulation into a usable form. Although several data manipulation and preparation techniques have been proposed for unstructured big data, relatively limited research has addressed the usability issues of unstructured data. This study identifies the usability issues of unstructured big data for the analytical process to bridge the identified gap. The usability enhancement model has been proposed for unstructured big data to facilitate the subjective and objective efficacy of unstructured big data for data preparation and manipulation activities. Moreover, concept mapping is an essential element to improve the usability of unstructured big data incorporated in the proposed model with usability rules. These rules reduce the usability gap between data availability and its usefulness for an intended purpose. The proposed research model will help to improve the efficiency of unstructured big data analytics.

This study is conducted to develop a collaborative visualization framework in the cross-field working group. The ultimate goal of this project is to provide a proper framework that can be used to develop a platform to allow collaborative visualization to be implemented inter-disciplinary groups, in two different settings perspectives; amateurs and professionals. The project begins with preliminary works to define the collaborative visualization based on previous researches. This project will also focus on the factors to develop an effective collaborative working environment thru visualization and shared understanding among the staffs/users from inter-disciplinary backgrounds. In addition, this project will also look into the interaction between human cognition and ICT attributes of visualization in developing an efficient working group to achieve a common goals and objectives. Towards the end of the project, the framework will be tested to validate its possible contributions to the targeted collaborative working groups.

The emergence of e-commerce has increased the demand for fast parcel delivery. In order to service their customers, a logistics company will normally set up a number of outlets in different areas of a city so that the senders can submit their parcels to the nearest outlets. Upon receiving the parcels, logistics company will then sort and send these parcels to the outlets that are close to the recipients. The collection/delivery of parcels between outlets needs a fleet of vehicles, and this problem then can be formulated as a vehicle routing problem. However, most of the existing algorithms proposed to solve vehicle routing problem assume that the travelling time between places are static. This may not be realistic because the traffic in the real world is rather dynamic which causes the travelling time from one place to another varies over time. This affects the accuracy of time-cost estimation for the logistics company during their parcel delivery process. However, the acquisition of accurate time-cost estimation is normally very expensive, and it might not be affordable to logistics company. Thus, this paper will mainly focus on a low-cost solution to effectively scrap, preprocess, and analyze the real traffic data in order to provide route planning algorithms with a set of highly accurate time-cost inputs to improve the accuracy of time-cost estimation for the logistic company. The importance of effective and efficient scraping is also stated as the path provided by real-time traffic map’s website is not optimal when traffic condition is heavier.

In recent days a lot of activities in Deep Learning demonstrated ability to produce much better than other Machine Learning techniques. Much of the challenge in the Deep Learning is about optimizing the weights and several hyper parameters as it takes lot of computation and time to do. Gradient descent has been most popular technique currently in its weights optimization for back propagation. Most of the existing implementation of Convolution Neural Networks/Deep Learning Networks plays pivotal role in image processing. Though being scientifically regressive, BP and GD is slowly converging and getting easily trapped in local minima these are inherent disadvantages. For this reason, we explored another optimization with Meta Heuristic Algorithms such as Genetic Algorithm in the Deep Learning algorithm.

The exponential growth in technological advancements that benefit children diagnosed with autism has recently occurred. Prior to the growing number of applications to help them communicate, understand, and interact with others, a study on the user interface characteristics, specifically on colour, text, and images in designing mobile application interfaces for children with autism, was conducted to provide preliminary evidence. This study helps in the design and development phase of a mobile application for children with autism. A total of 38 proxy users took part in this study. They were given a questionnaire through an online 5-10 minute survey. The questionnaire comprises questions on the multimedia elements used in designing a mobile application for children with autism. This study aims to identify the user interface characteristics preference, specifically on colour, text, and images, in designing a mobile application interface for children with autism, based on the proxy user perspective. To supplement the body of literature in this area and improve the pedagogical method, the author expresses the related works on the user interface characteristics and usability issues. The enhancement to the instrument used is promising in terms of the mobile application's design and development for children with autism.
