Nonlocal interactions of solitons in bias-free nematic liquid crystals 无偏向列液晶中孤子的非局域相互作用

With an emphasis on experimental observations, we review the state of the art in the area of optical spatial solitons in unbiased nematic liquid crystals, outlining their basic and applied features and discussing recent results, including soliton interaction with curved surfaces and observation of dynamical instability of two counterpropagating solitons.

Of a high interest now are the light fields with spatially inhomogeneous polarization state. These fields give new possibilities for many aspects of optical science and engineering. We consider a new effective method for the synthesis of light fields with predetermined polarization structure by means of specific diffractive optical element (DOE).

Modelling of THz-laser radiation pulse shape 太赫兹激光辐射脉冲形状建模

A technique for modelling the shape of the radiation pulse-pumped THz-laser is presented. The initial data to be used for modelling are as follows: the size and the shape of a discharge-current pulse; discharge current-dependent radiated power; the dependence of radiated power upon the tuning control of a resonator at different pumping currents. The application of the above technique makes it possible to produce pulses of required shape and to select laser peak-efficiency operating conditions.

Determination of active region overheating temperature of GaN-based light emitting diodes promising for laser media pumping 用于激光介质抽运的氮化镓基发光二极管有源区过热温度的测定

Overheating temperature of active region of LEDs made of Bridgelux chips was determined using long-wavelength shift of the EL spectra as well as the voltage reduction at constant current. It was shown that direct liquid active cooling of LED chip reduces drastically its thermal resistance that is promising for pumping of laser active media.

In this paper we discuss the ability of Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor to be used in the closed loop adaptive system. For sure we do not discuss the possibility of wavefront sensor to measure aberrations of laser beam. But at the same time we consider Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor to be not the best device in any adaptive optical system.

A pneumatic optical medium (POM) sensitive to pressure and temperature due to gaseous voids inside is studied theoretically. The properties of glass, quartz and mica made POM in infrared and visual regions are analyzed. The Kerr type nonlinearity is predicted. Multiscale regimes of pressure and temperature indication are discussed.

We discuss tunability and nonlinear properties of metamaterials operating at microwave and optical frequencies. We also study the fundamental nonlinear effects in metal-dielectric waveguides supporting surface plasmon polaritons, and discuss nanofocusing of a plasmon beam and soliton formation in a tapered waveguide in the presence of losses.

Bidirectional beam propagation method is modified to describe wave field interference in laser cavity with multiple quantum wells. Properties of optical modes are found numerically for cylindrical vertical cavity surface emitting laser with above threshold e-beam pumping and external mirror. The stability limits of single-mode operation are determined.

In a three-level lambda system, a destructive interference between excitation pathways at laser excitation can provide the resonant reduction of fluorescence and absorption (“dark resonance”). The dark resonances in rubidium vapor excited by a femtosecond laser or laser with frequency shifted feedback have been studied theoretically and experimentally.
