3D model retrieval using multiple features and manifold ranking 基于多特征和流形排序的三维模型检索

The demand of 3D object retrieval became urgent according to the widely use of 3D printer. In this paper, a 3D object retrieval method is proposed using multiple features and manifold ranking. Five descriptors are concatenated to be a new feature vector of length 792 for 3D object retrieval. They are angular radial transform-based elevation descriptor(ART-ED), principal plane descriptor(PPD), 3D-angular radial transform(3D-ART), shell grid descriptor(SGD), and Grid Distance 2 (GD2). Next, a manifold ranking method is used to re-rank the retrieved results. In addition, various distance metrics are addressed in the construction of manifold graph. The retrieval results on a benchmark dataset SHREC-W have been reported to show the feasibility of the proposed method.

Keynote speakers: Ultrafast pattern recognition and tracking in FLIR imagery 主讲人:FLIR图像中的超快速模式识别和跟踪

Pattern recognition and tracking in forward looking infrared (FLIR) imagery is a challenging problem due to various factors such as low resolution, low signal-to-noise ratio, different 3D orientations of the targets, effects of global motion, and close proximity with similar objects. In this keynote, we will review the recent trends and advancements in distortion-invariant pattern recognition followed by the development of a novel data fusion algorithm for single/multiple object detection and tracking in FLIR imagery. Each detection/tracking algorithm utilizes various properties of objects and image frames of a given FLIR sequence. The data fusion algorithm employs complementary features of two or more of the aforementioned algorithms to achieve significantly better detection/tracking accuracy. Test results using real life FLIR image sequences confirm the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

Robotic gripper design to handle an arbitrarily shaped object by emulating human finger motion 通过模拟人的手指运动来抓取任意形状物体的机械手

Controlling a robotic gripper to handle objects in different sizes and shapes in real-time is a complex task. The challenge is to adapt and position the gripper according to a target object. In this work, by considering a three fingered robotic gripper with a finger structure similar to that of human finger, we study the positioning of fingers in a gripper in the two dimensional plane. Using an inverse kinematic model for a pulley based underactuated mechanical finger, we derive a region of reach in the plane of the finger. Simulations demonstrate the limits of reach under different conditions. This can be used to derive the positioning of each finger, as well as in path planning to control the reach of the gripper.

Educational attainment trend analysis with the visual data mining tool 基于可视化数据挖掘工具的学历趋势分析

We present in this paper the analysis results of prominent educational characteristics differentiating people from the two regions in the world: advanced economies versus east Asia and the pacific countries. The automatic multivariate analysis of classification trends has been demonstrated through the visual data mining tool called KNIME. We found from the empirical studies that from the years 1950 to 1980, percentage of population with no education is the sole factor accurately classifying advanced economies from the east Asia and pacific nations. But since the 1985 until 2010, the classification models have been shifted toward other four factors: (1) average years of schooling attained, (2) percentage of population completing primary school, (3) average years of tertiary schooling attained, and (4) percentage of population completing tertiary school. We illustrate graphical decision tree models of all 5-year intervals since 1950 to 2010.

3D sphere virtual instrument with Kinect and MIDI 带有Kinect和MIDI的三维球体虚拟仪器

In this paper, we present an application that dance and music using Microsoft Kinect sensor and use MIDI technology to make a visual instrument for somebody who interested in music. The program will draw a sphere in three dimensions space by OpenGL and a user can dance in the visual sphere. The user can trigger events by entering two hands or feet in a specific zone and events will generate music or chord. The sphere can be 360 degrees rotated and we can see the 3D skeleton on the screen. We also calibrated two Kinects to do calibration because when user cannot stand in front of Kinect or when user stand side face to Kinect, Kinect cannot detect user's body very well, user's body will block by a part of your arms or legs and Kinect's infrared ray can't measure your joints. The reason we need to do a calibration if we need a side view of skeleton. We calculate the radius of the sphere when the user's hand on the surface of the sphere, it will generate sound by MIDI events. We use the program to perform in concert, which combine all virtual instruments in real time and show the 3d sphere with the user's skeleton on the screen.

A mobile application for an ecological campus navigation system using augmented reality 一个使用增强现实的生态校园导航系统的移动应用程序

With the recent advances in technology, the number of smart mobile device functions is constantly increasing. Furthermore, with Wi-Fi and the popularity of smart mobile devices, supplying information using the smart mobile has been receiving a lot of attention from technology developers. The combining of technology and education is constantly being explored in various fields. Because of the convenience provided by smart mobile devices, many of them are equipped with augmented reality techniques. This study investigated the use of augmented reality technology when applied to the ecological environment for the purpose of campus navigation, and the application of the augmented reality and location-based service incorporated with audio and visual information about special flora and fauna in a campus ecological environment to establish an ecologically friendly environment navigation and retrieval system. The augmented reality technology was used to render 3D animation models and video playback with the ability to identify images of animals and plants as well as providing directives for users when getting near birds or plants.

Modeling perspectives of secondary school teachers of Sri Lanka towards the integration of ICT in the instructional process 斯里兰卡中学教师对信息和传播技术融入教学过程的模式看法

It is arguable whether the huge investment made on ICT in the school sector of Sri Lanka has been fruitful in terms of the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the instructional process. Numerous reasons may account for poor teacher involvement while the review of literature has indicated that perspectives of teachers in this context could be one of them. The purpose of this study was to model the perspectives of secondary school teachers regarding the integration of ICT in their instructional process. The research methodology adopted is Interactive Qualitative Analysis, which is an analytical framework for qualitative research and is formulated to make a systems approach to the problem under study, to model the perspectives of teachers about the integration of ICT in the classroom. Through focus groups and individual interviews, ten affinities: Principal, ICT Laboratory, Teacher-in-charge of ICT Laboratory, Student, Curriculum (Non-ICT), ICT Knowledge, Pedagogical ICT knowledge, Time, Non-ICT Teacher and Professional Development Program emerged to describe the teacher perspectives. Study of pair-wise influential relationships of the affinities identified the Principal as a primary driver and the Non-ICT Teacher and the Student as primary outcomes. The ICT Laboratory, the Teacher-in-charge of ICT Lab and the ICT Knowledge were the secondary drivers whereas the Professional Development Program, the Curriculum (Non-ICT), and the Pedagogical ICT knowledge were the secondary outcomes revealed.

Offline tracking system for deep sea going vessels using GPS and GPRS 基于GPS和GPRS的深海船舶脱机跟踪系统

The paper proposes a GPS (Global Positioning System) tracking system for offshore fishing boats. The main objective of the proposed device is to minimize IUU (Illegal Unreported and Unregulated) fishing and develop sustainable fishing. There is a new demand in the world especially in Europe to import fish products only from sustainable fishing sources. This new trend requires independent proof of the fishing methods and fishing locations. The developed device provides an independent verification and helps to verify the fishing vessel log book data. The propose device is a low cost GPS tracking and data recording system with basic and required functionalities. The system contains added facilities to provide an independent and comprehensive report of the fishing trips.

An intelligent classroom management system based on wireless sensor networks 基于无线传感器网络的智能教室管理系统

The learning efficiency in a traditional classroom is easily influenced by three factors: the learning environment, the instruction mode and the conditions of students. For improving the learning efficiency, an intelligent classroom management system with context-awareness based on the wireless sensor network technology is proposed and implemented in this research. The statuses of students and the classroom are detected by wireless sensors, and these statuses will be transferred to the management system built in a server. The management system will determine the current conditions of the students and the classroom, and give proper feedbacks to the students, the teachers, and the wireless sensor-controlled equipment deployed in the classroom. The proposed intelligent classroom management system includes three subsystems. 1) The environment management system regulates the classroom to a suitable condition for teaching and learning; 2) The instruction mode management system assists teachers to switch instruction modes quickly and smoothly to avoid wasting of time; 3) The learning behavior management system alerts students when they are inattention or fatigued. The proposed system is implemented in a classroom of Chung Hua University, Taiwan. A preliminary evaluation is also conducted to verify the correctness of the system.

Learning skills development with Gamification Mechanism for Thai juveniles 基于游戏化机制的泰国青少年学习技能发展

This study aimed to investigate the life skills development, learning skills and the information skills in a Thai juvenile camp. The target group of this study consisted of 120 juveniles with age ranges between 10-18 years old who participated in the overnight stay camp during April 22-27, 2014. The study tools composed of the creative camping arrangement program, the observing form, the interview and the questionnaire. Data were analyzed using content analysis method, average value and the standard deviations. The result illustrated the finding of learning skills development types by using Gamification Mechanism (GM).
本研究旨在探讨泰国某青少年营之生活技能发展、学习技能与资讯技能。本研究的目标群体为2014年4月22-27日参加过夜露营的10-18岁青少年120人。研究工具由创意露营安排方案、观察表、访谈和问卷组成。采用内容分析法、平均值和标准差对数据进行分析。结果说明了游戏化机制对学习技能发展类型的影响。
