The EU Roadmap for moving to a competitive low carbon economy in 2050 states a potential of 85% emission reductions in industry by 2050. The industry is unlikely to meet this target without a major change in the policy frame. The purpose of this article is to assess the potential of the transition to a low carbon economy in Romania including a macroeconomic outlook and to offer some recommendations. Climate challenges rarely appear in the mass-media in Romania. There is no fundamental environmental education, and the media is uninterested in these issues because they do not sell. The environment receives only occasional attention; the primary concerns are about the energy supply and prices. Romania needs to increase knowledge transfer in this context. This change may be done by establishing tactics that combine techniques for reducing environmental impact and communicating the benefits of this process. At this time when innovation and sustainability are two of the most important key elements of the energy transition, it is more important than ever to maintain transparency and better consultation among all decision-makers by focusing on integrated efficiency issues that include economic, social, environmental, and climate change mitigation.

The COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak has affected people around the world. In this short period of time, the critical situation became synonymous with medical, social and economic challenges. The results of several restrictions applied throughout the states resulted in major disruptions especially in working patterns, supply chains and food consumption. Uncertain times caused people actively change their usual habits especially diets. The present paper wants to track the trending food commodities of this already shaking half year of 2020, analyzing both global and local market trends, focusing on the FMCG sector, highlighting the opportunities and threats in order to make the short-term future lesser blurred in the food sector.

The labor force in agriculture is an essential component of agriculture. The paper addresses the evolution of the number of employees in the period 2008-2019, at national level and in agriculture, forestry and fishing. Also, the evolution of the net earning in agriculture in the period 2008-2019 was analyzed. The aim of the paper is to identify the trend of the evolution of the number of employees in agriculture, as well as the net earnings in this sector, thus, based on these data we can estimate their evolution by 2030, using the Expert Modeler method (SPSS), and determining the main statistical indicators.

The objectives of this article are to build forecasting models that estimate the net exports of several kinds of cereal in Romania. A comparison between the traditional model of regression (the linear model) and machine learning algorithms will be made. Moreover, there will be built an ensemble of these models in order to minimize the RMSE. The implications are complex and represent a mixture of mathematical, econometric and programming skills. The results of the article aimed to identify new methods that increase the confidence level of estimates.

The Faculty of Agri-food and Environmental Economics is a well-established educational and research leader in Romania in the field of economics, focused on agri-food and environmental sciences. Part of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, the Faculty provides higher education according to the Bologna Process, consisting of three-cycle higher education systems: bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral studies. With many economists professionally trained over the years and with a group of professors focused on research activities with impactful contributions in the field of agri-food and environmental economics, it has become important to study the evolution of research interests manifested in the research papers elaborated by the tenured teaching staff of the Faculty of Agri-food and Environmental Economics. This research paper aims at highlighting the emerging research interests using a quantitative method: bibliometry, a branch of scientometry, based on the scientific papers indexed in the Web of Science until 20 September 2020. The main findings in this paper refer to the fact that waste management, food safety, carbon emissions and decision-making are the topics most frequently approached in the scientific papers indexed in the 2018-2020 period, while topics such as: land-use, agricultural insurance, ecosystems, water, marketing-research are specific to the 2012-2014 period.

The objectives of sustainable development in agriculture are emphasizing the worries related to the possibility of ensuring food security at national levels caused by the climate change and agricultural productivity. These worries reflect directly on the international trading partnerships and affect the trading especially with agricultural and food supplies. The current research aims at providing a clear image of the modifications in the trade balance of Romania, recognised mostly as an exporter of raw agricultural products, such as cereals or live animals, at low prices. Romanian agricultural productivity is characterized by an acute weather dependency, due to the low levels of irrigation systems and extensive agricultural systems, combined with extreme heat during summers and low precipitation in winters and springs. Even so, the exports and imports of a country are a key factor in its economic development so they cannot be reduced only to food security and sustainability aspects. In this context, a clear image of Romania’s trade balance offers some insight for the designing of future policy related both to the possibilities of economic and sustainable development.

The global food value chain encompasses a component of particular importance: the milk market. What makes this component unique is that fact that milk represents an essential part in almost any diet, a key factor for the production of dairy products. The main objective undertook in this research paper was to quantify the pressure put on the global milk chain by Romania. The results highlight that the milk imported quantities represent, on average, 3.5% of the Romanian production of milk in the 2010-2019 period. Romania is a small player in terms of the pressure put on the global milk value chain, from the perspective of milk demand. The loss caused on the Romanian milk chain by the trade deficit can be ameliorated by increasing the national production capacities.

Fruits and vegetables have a high importance from two points of view: for the consumer it represents a healthy and nutritious food and for the national economy it represents a key sector that gives added value to the agricultural sector. The importance of the paper comes from the dominant position of the fruit and vegetable in agriculture, but also their need to be consumed daily, so a comprehensive statistical analysis was performed to identify the evolution and main qualitative aspects that describe the state of this market. The purpose of the paper is to determine the level of the fruit and vegetable market, both in quantitative and value terms. The study focuses on the available quantities that address to human consumption, to which are added the imports necessary to cover the constant needs of consumers throughout the year, considering the seasonal aspect of Romanian agriculture. The applicative part of the paper involves a statistical analysis to determine the evolution and size of fruit and vegetable categories on the Romanian and international agricultural trade. The main conclusions aim that the sector is characterized by volatility, production and price fluctuate, and supply stability is achieved through imports that have increased annually

Environmental and climate change issues have begun to become points of interest for the financial services industry, due to both global and European policy trend - the Green Deal, the Climate Change Mitigation Treaty, the reduction of companies’ carbon emissions, etc. - as well as for the relevant scientific and regulatory authorities. The process of institutional construction of the new entities represented by the ecological restoration parks was born from the need to encourage the multi and interdisciplinary remediation and integrated monitoring works of some damaged natural areas. The purpose of this paper is to provide a new approach to ecological restoration activities, taking into account not only the technical aspects of restoration works, but also new ways of them integrating economically and socially. The paper is organized on following issues: the need to establish a general institutional framework for ecological restoration; specific technical requirements for establishing future complex ecological restoration parks; financing the ecological restoration parks; advantages of institutional recognition of ecological restoration parks. Ecological restoration parks can become a source for the design and jobs designing in the medium and long term, given the duration of restoration of bio components and / or of relationships affected and subject to ecological restoration.
