ABSTRACT Objective: The present study analyzed the biomechanical behavior of the generated stress on the external surface of the rehabilitation elements (implants, components and infrastructures) according to different occlusion patterns on a fixed partial denture on osseointegrated implants. Method: The experimental groups varied according to the location of the occlusal load applied to the Fixed partial denture, with a total occlusal load of 750N in all groups, opting for greater loads on the occlusal table of the molar in relation to the premolar. This evaluation was performed by the finite element method with simulations by the AnsysWorkbench 16.0 Software program. Results: The results analyzed for implants and their components showed that the more posterior the occlusal loading, the greater the stress developed (group 4), always in the connection area between the prosthetic component and the implant, as this location can induce greater screw loosening. The results analyzed for the infrastructures showed that the most distributed occlusal loading possible (group 1) is the best situation for generating less stress. However, even in group 3 which obtained the highest stresses in the critical area of the prosthetic connection, the zirconia flexural strength values generated were not worrisome. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the occlusal adjustment of Fixed partial dentures are preponderant and decisive factors for correct biomechanics and preservation of the system in the long term in order to avoid possible damage and/or failures, and exert significant and notorious differences in the behavior of all structures studied herein.

ABSTRACT Permanent canines are essential for the preservation of the stomatognathic system, as they are part of the occlusal and aesthetic function and balance. During the normal development of occlusion, canines follow a long and complex trajectory until their eruption, that is, they are more likely to suffer disturbances during this process. Removal of the permanent canine should only be considered in extreme cases, where the canine itself is not susceptible to orthodontic traction. Orthodontic traction is the most indicated treatment due to the high morphofunctional and aesthetic value of the permanent canine. The aim of this study is to report a clinical case of traction surgery of the superior permanent canine included in the maxilla. A 13-year-old female patient attended the dental clinic at the Nilton Lins University accompanied by her guardian, referred by an orthodontistfor canine traction surgery. during the examIn the clinical analysis, tooth 13 was absent from the dental arch. The patient had a computed tomography scan, where it was possible to verify the actual position of the toothimpacted with the partially erupted crown on the alveolar ridge. After planning, surgery was performed to install an orthodontic button and adapt the ligature with a 0.30 mm wire. After the 10-month follow-up period, the presence of the tooth in arch, completely erupted, was observed, showing effectiveness in the proposed treatment. Therefore, the procedure for bonding the orthodontic device was performed satisfactorily without complications or intercurrences, making it possible to continue the orthodontic treatment. The patient remains under follow-up.

ABSTRACT Objective: This study aims to evaluate the correlation between religiosity and spirituality in dental students in the state of Bahia. Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out with 266 dental students from the state of Bahia. To measure religious involvement, the Duke Religious Index (DUREL) was used, while the Spirituality Self Rating Scale (SSRS) was used for spirituality. Results: A total of 266 students were evaluated, with a mean age of 32 years (±11.9), most of them female (62.4%), of self-reported race/color (52.3%), with an income greater than three minimum wages (57.1%) and studying/working from the sixth to the tenth semester (41.0%). The correlations evidenced can be classified as weak for organizational religiosity (OR) (r = 0.406), moderate for non-organizational religiosity (RNO) (r = 0.589) and strong for intrinsic religiosity (RI) (r = 0.677). In the multivariate model, the ORN and RI dimensions proved to be predictors of spirituality, and the elevation of the former implies a consequent increase in spirituality. Conclusion: It is concluded that the RNO and RI dimensions are positively correlated with religiosity.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the demographic characteristics of physical education professionals, their knowledge on dental trauma, and related first aid management. It is well known that physical activities may pose dental trauma risks, and urgent care is essential to minimize damages. Methods: Exploratory research with descriptive nature and quantitative approach. The sample was selected by convenience and comprised 31 physical education professionals. A structured questionnaire developed on Google Forms® system was sent to the participants. The collected data were organized and analyzed. Results: Among the total sample, only 5 (16.1%) had information on the subject. When asked about specific actions to manage dental trauma, only few participants stated to the most appropriate approach. Conclusion: There is a widespread lack of knowledge on dental trauma and the correct and immediate management of such injuries. As these injuries occur frequently in the target population of their daily work, this lack of preparation can hinder and undermine the work of the dentist and cause irreversible harm to the victims.

ABSTRACT Osseointegrable dental implants are biomaterials made of titanium or other alloys mixed with titanium, which have high biocompatibility and allow osseointegration. However, this process can be modulated by changes in the complex mechanisms between microbiota, immune response and host. The present study aims to present how the immune system-microbiota-host interaction influences the osseointegration process of titanium dental implants and its alloys. A literature review was performed through electronic and manual searches in several databases, including PubMed, LILACS, Google Scholar, SciELO and Web of Science for articles published in the last 20 years in English and Portuguese. The formation of a temporary fibrin matrix on the implants surface after implantation implies the recruitment, adhesion and activity of immune cells at this site, with the release of pro-inflammatory molecules and recruitment of neutrophils. In the second moment, monocytes and macrophages (M1) are recruited, producing, in this step, reactive oxygen species. In the later stage of inflammation, macrophages (M2) help in tissue regeneration with expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines. In addition, the implants surface provides a site for microbial colonization mediated by salivary pellicle and topographical features. Thus, in symbiosis the modulation of the immune response will be favorable to osseointegration. However, the dysbiotic process exacerbates the inflammatory progression modulating the immune response influencing abnormal tissue healing or scar and fibrosis formation, compromising osseointegration. Different conditions of the subgingival microbiota will influence different immunological cascades, generating different cellular responses and positive or negative modulation of the osseointegration process.

ABSTRACT Adolescence comprises a life cycle with high contact to information and communication technological tools. For this reason, it was decided to incorporate these tools into the oral health work process aimed at this public. The COVID-19 pandemic contextualized the use of digital technological tools in several productive sectors, including oral health care in the Unified Health System. Objective: The objective was to stimulate the use of teledentistry in the oral health care of adolescents in Primary Health Care in the Ceará interior. Methods: The participants were adolescents between 12 and 15 years old from two micro areas of the territory, in total there are 25 participants. The intervention was divided into three stages: application of an electronic form, creation of an instant messaging application group and creation and expansion of a flow for access to the service. Results: The reasons for the dropout in dental consultations by adolescents were the lack of vacancies, long wait and the low number of educational actions aimed at health. In the messaging application group, remote educational activities were carried out, as well as restructuring of the dental care flow with the possibility of scheduling a first appointment through the group. Conclusion: The interaction obtained in the intervention favored the improvement of access to dental appointments.

ABSTRACT Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the stress distribution in internal tapered connection implants with different adaptation geometries submitted to oblique load simulation using the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method. Methods: Three different internal tapered implant-abutment assemblies were modeled by varying only the diameter of the abutment body in the cone region. The dimensions of the implants were 4.0 mm in diameter and 13 mm in length. Oblique loads of 210 N angled 30 degrees to the long axis of the implant were applied to a hemispherical body positioned over the abutments simulating a dental crown. The stress generated by the implant-abutment assembly was analyzed by the FEA method using the von Mises criterion. Results: A higher concentration of stress in the coronal region (collar) and implant body on the opposite side of the load application was shown, as well as in the body region of the abutments and in the screw threads. The cervical region of the implants showed the highest von Mises stress values, the highest values being observed in G3 (1034 MPa), followed by G2 (841 MPa) and G1 (702 MPa). Conclusion: According to the results presented, it can be concluded that the stress distribution was more homogeneous and less concentrated in the G1 implant-abutment assembly. Therefore, the use of abutments with dimensions standardized by the implant manufacturer is recommended.

Oblique loads of 210 N angled 30 degrees to the long axis of the implant were applied to a hemispherical body positioned over the abutments simulating a dental crown. The stress generated by the implant-abutment assembly was analyzed by the FEA method using the von Mises criterion. Results: A higher concentration of stress in the coronal region (collar) and implant body on the opposite side of the load application was shown, as well as in the body region of the abutments and in the screw threads. The cervical region of the implants showed the highest von Mises stress values, the highest values being observed in G3 (1034 MPa), followed by G2 (841 MPa) and G1 (702 MPa). Conclusion: According to the results presented, it can be concluded that the stress distribution was more homogeneous and less concentrated in the G1 implant-abutment assembly. Therefore, the use of abutments with dimensions standardized by the implant manufacturer is recommended.","PeriodicalId":30069,"journal":{"name":"RGO Revista Gaucha de Odontologia","volume":"57 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90710974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ABSTRACT The gingival contour, the color of the teeth and the presence of interincisal diastema are seen as unsightly factors, being highly harmful from a social point of view. The present study aimed to report a comprehensive and conservative esthetic treatment executed with a multidisciplinary approach in a 20-year-old female patient that presented darkened teeth with poor spacing and excessive gingival display while smiling, as well as present a brief literature review on multidisciplinary approach in esthetic dentistry. After clinical examination and diagnosis, a treatment plan was elaborated to meet the patient’s expectations with a conservative approach. After patient consent, therapy began with supervised home-based tooth whitening with 22% carbamide peroxide applied one hour/daily for 14 days, followed with gingival recontouring surgery and, after a healing period of 30 days, diastemas closure with direct composite resin technique, occlusal adjustment, finishing, and polishing. The multidisciplinary approach was fundamental for the accomplishment of the proposed treatment, achieving satisfactory esthetic and functional results.

ABSTRACT Objective: The accomplishment of this cephalometric objective to evaluate the face characteristics of this cefalometric work individuals had to the city of this cephalometric prevalence, as well as measure the objective of malocclusion. Methods: For this study, 531 sort of individuals of the masculine organizations of Rio de Janeiro had been submitted to the clinical chait of the course of Master in Orthodontics of the Center Research Leopold Mandic, of which if it got prevalence of malocclusion. Results: Of this sample, it was observed that 22 individuals with normal occlusion and that if they had never submitted the orthodontic treatment. In these patients they had been made taken from normal head in lateral cephalometric radiographs and evaluated the cephalometrics largeness: SNA, SNB, ANB, Axle “Y”, NS.Go-Me, FMA, FMIA, IMPA, 1.NA, 1- NA, 1.NB, 1-NB, 1.1, 1.SN, 1.Go-Gn, SN.PLO, AO-BO, Line H, Z angle, P-NB, AFA, AFP and IAF. The gotten date had been submitted to the analysis with a level of significance of 5% (p< 0.05) and used descriptive statistics and the error of Dalbergh. The results showed that of the total of the evaluated sample, the malocclusion of 44.3% of Classroom I; 29.5% of Classroom II; 17.2% of Classroom III and 9.2% of normal occlusion. Conclusion: The individuals with normal occlusion of the city of Rio De Janeiro had presented equal cephalometric characteristics with many standard measures described in literature, except for the superior incisor that were presented vestibulate and the well inclined inferior incisor for vestibular contest.
