The main aim of this work is to put into consideration a new analysis of the text by the British author George Musters, of his description of a menarche ceremony (which he called “the pretty house”) that was observed among the Tehuelches from the Patagonia in 1869, in order to contextualize it from the historic point of view and from a gender perspective. From qualitative methodology we have made a bricolage which expresses an itinerary articulated by a genealogy of documentary sources from the nineteenth century, by testimonies produced in anthropological and linguistic works in the second half of the twentieth century, and by ethnographic records of our works in oral history which focus on rituals to foster the yarns. The comparison of sources of the selected documents leads us to think about the hypothesis that in the ceremonies of the first menstruation, from the nineteenth century on, it was fostered the attachment to yarns and fabric, in societies which also ritualized the field of textile work.

One consequence of the impact of the feminist movement in anthropological theory and practice was the recovery of the life and work of women who, despite occupying a peripheral site, made significant contributions to the field. In this paper I focus on the trajectories of these pioneers who, in a time of fast socioeconomic changes (last decades or xix Century and the early xx Century) and despite they were self taught, were fundamental to the professionalization of anthropology.

We inquire about the organization and practice of Mapuche rituals in northwest of Chubut and southwest of Rio Negro. We try to locate the development of these ceremonies as part of the struggle for territory spanning families, communities and organizations in the area and the political and social alliances that develop. We argue that, at present, prioritize the area of confrontation allows to watch that ritual and territory are articulated through the construction of social forces. We place special emphasis on demonstrating the validity and effectiveness of the ritual celebrations, pointing that this “instrumental” character doesn´t deny its constantly updated mythological and philosophical content. To do so, we analyze ritual organization and its senses, review the history of the Mapuche groups in Argentina and describe some ethnographic cases. We rely on fieldwork in the region since 2009.

In this paper, I present an ethnographic analysis about the protest-march for “March 24” on Cordoba city in 2013, on a new anniversary of last Estate strike in Argentina. That march coincided with the proclamation of Cardinal Bergoglio as Pope and with the Catholic feast of Palm Sunday. Which generated a particular confluence of celebrations and tensions. I propose some contributions to theoretical reflections about same ways of construction and circulation of collective memories link to recent past in Argentina. In particular, I account for some tension between rituals, spatiality, temporalities and memories making. I try to show how the march is a ritual that expresses and constructs a particular political community, with its homogeneity and heterogeneity, agreements and disputes. Furthermore, I try to argue about same “outside” of the march, tensions and indifference between different memories communities that converge on concentrates space and time without apparent continuity.

The purpose of this essay is to enhance the inquiry on aboriginal pottery from Patagonia and surrounding areas, according to documentary sources. The available data for ceramic containers and alternative materials is reviewed, including their types, uses, and provenances. In order to evaluate documents representativeness, a confidence measurement is deployed by means of comparative data on leather working. It is discussed the role of regional pottery through time, the relationship between information lacks and historical absences, the existence of non-utilitarian choices, and causal factors for change.

Recent research in the province of Cordoba (Argentina) province suggests that between 1000 and 500 years BP a decline in the quality of life of the population together with population growth and a more intensive exploitation of the environment would have occurred. This would have led to the emergence of potential social conflicts. However, the archaeological and bioarchaeological records have not yet offered evidence situations. In this context, the aim of this paper is to present the first findings of four individuals, with bone lesions compatible with archaeological contexts and situations of interpersonal violence, three of them dated by AMS at the end of the late Holocene. The bioarchaeological, contextual and chronological information, and a description of the injuries and paleopathological analysis of each of the individuals are presented.

One of the most praised elements in the recent legislative changes related to children and their rights is the so called “un-judicialization” of social care. It has been argued that, this transformation resulted in a reduction in the arbitrariness to which children and families from popular strata were subjected in courts. In this paper, I hope to suspend this assumption in order to move forward in the reflections on its implications in the everyday dimension of the state practices designed to "restore rights". To do this, I inquire here from an ethnographic perspective, in the actions of state agents from a Servicio Local de Proteccion de Derechos de Ninos in a township from the Buenos Aires conurbation in contexts signed by social inequality. Particularly those deployed to deal with problematic situations of children marked by adult practices, usually interpreted as criminal activities - such as child abuse or sexual abuse-.
