This article examines the emergence of young peasant singers in the region of General Carlos Ibanez del Campo, in southern Chile, who through local music denounce the harmful effects of the possible construction of damns in the rivers Baker and Pascua. From a folk communication perspective, the paper addresses the pre-eminence of regional singers who use popular poetry mainly as a vehicle to convey information and denunciation. This paper aims to characterize the findings at Hermanos Lazcano site and to discuss the results in relation to the regional bioarchaeological record. We analyze bone preservation, sex and age profile of the sample, its chronology and the presence of intentional cranial modifications. Hermanos Lazcano is a multiple burial site dated at 3780 years B.P. and composed of a minimum of 4 subadults and 8 adults of both sexes whose remains were highly fragmented and poorly preserved. We determined the presence of intentional cranial modification of circular and pseudocircular type. The cultural material associated with the burials comprised grinding stones, shell beads, a pendant made of shell, trapezoidal rocks and a lithic sphere. Available evidence suggests that the emergence of burial areas with high concentration of individuals would have occurred in northern Neuquen earlier than other regions of Patagonia, where the oldest chronologies do not surpass 3,000 years B.P.

This article begins by examining the concept Sai Baba groups have on the mind, and then argue that their ritual performances are “technologies of the self”, in Foucauldian terms, designed to quiet the mind and gain subjective attitude consisting “let things happen”. Subsequently, we explained that devotees strive to apply this attitude a everyday life give that “mundane” is considered an illusory product of the mind that distracts from the spiritual path. At this point try the classic Weberian theme of “attitude to the world” and how it manifests between Sai groups, especially in regard to the detachment and asceticism. Finally, we conclude that the ritual performances and detachment from worldly are the facets sacred and profane, respectively, of an overall strategy to “kill” the mind set on playing for the Sai devotees.

This paper examines Uruguayan state emigrant policies toward Uruguayan migrant population and their implications in associations of Uruguayans in Argentina. The article draws on transnational perspectives for the study of international migration that redefined the understanding of integration processes in the context of migration, as well as on anthropological ethnographic work conducted between 2005 and 2012. We approach the institutionalization process of the link between state and migrant population considering the program Departmento 20-La patria peregrina, which was part of a series of policies to include migration issues into the Uruguayan public agenda. These processes are analyzed from the point of view of the migrants themselves, namely the Uruguayan community in Buenos Aires, reorganized through the creation of the Consejo Consultivo at the request of immigration policy for connecting with the State of origin.

This article presents existing approaches in Anthropology that have paved the way for the research of a contemporary significant object of study: the field of financial markets. The paper explores some of the most salient socio-cultural research leading to the conception of Social Studies of Finance, and presents some key contributions of these anthropological and sociological studies that challenge and present an alternative to the neoclassical approach. With their attention to detail, diversity and local specificities, this paper argues that anthropological knowledge can provide a unique understanding of the complex contemporary financial world, by which drawing attention to the diversity of forms taken by institutions, actors and practices that constitute the financial markets, particularly analyzing the specificity of local conditions in which these are developed.
