The relations among technological development, stylistic innovations and possible reconfigurations in telenovela's genre will be analysed through excerpts of the first episode from the telenovela Gabriela, which portray the travelling from the hinterland to Ilheus, in an elaborate work of visual composition at the expense of dialogue as the plot conductor. The goal is showing that amendments in those relations can suggest changes in the communicability strategies that characterize the referred genre.

Considering the consolidation traces of the curator’s profession in the last decades, as well as the dissemination of its modus operandi for beyond the traditional field of art, this paper aims to identify the causes that lead us to speculate about the emergence of a possible curatorial language, which would consolidate whether as a reaction to internal transformations of art making, or due the influence of new media’s operational logic. By approaching different aspects of curatorial practices, this paper intends to outline some elements that allow to think critically about the curator’s symbolic autonomy.

In this paper, based on the analysis of “So e fracassado quem quer”, a self-help literature book written by Thomas Morgan and published in Brazil in 1989, I problematize the recent incorporation of the derogatory speech about failure in this country, which is perceived not as an outcome of a specific social context, but as individual inadequacy. For such, I start by approaching a striking figure in American culture: the loser, found in many of its cultural products and often translated as “fracassado” in Brazil. The “fracassado”, in this sense, symbolizes the one who has not succeeded in an alleged world of opportunities widespread by the imagery of success that is reflected in the ethos of contemporary self-help.

When intimacy is the main theme of both television programs and in movies theaters, an affection crisis is observed, in which the risk of subjective imprisonments and reification intensify. In this paper we analyze two empirical objects that emphasize the theme of everyday life and privacy, which pervade some affective territories, such as the film "A woman is a woman", of Jean-Luc Godard, and contemporary television, in particular the Brazilian television channel GNT. In conclusion, the trajectory of the self seems threatened by the marketing of affective performances.

Construction of the social entrepreneur's role: possible worlds, discourse and the spirit of capitalism - This paper derives from a post-doctoral research which deals with the theme of social entrepreneurship, having as object the discourses, extracted from digital media, which characterize and conceptualize the work of social entrepreneurs. The aim is to analyze the meanings attributed to social entrepreneur, understood as an agent that adjusts to the new spirit of capitalism (Boltanski and Chiapello) by incorporating the social role (Dahrendorf) of transforming crisis scenarios, and simultaneously setting a response to the dismantling of the Welfare State - which is evident in the portuguese context. The theoretical-methodological approach deals with the conceptual paradoxes involving social entrepreneurship; entrepreneurial logic that crosses the imaginary of contemporary capitalism; the notion of social discourse proposed by Angenot; and the multidimensional approach to discourse analysis by Fairclough.

This paper seek to understand how the media testimony can be conceived as a potentially political action in its ability of producing controversial scenes and simultaneously demonstrating a shared common and a separation. Such movement is inspired by the J. Ranciere’s political perspective. In this sense, we analyze the narrative about the daily routine of the young addict Paul "Thirteen" as told in the television show A Liga, or the Team as an evidence of the coexistence and contradiction of worlds established by the media testimony.

Abstract: Feminism, motherhood and the media - historically close relations in review – We start from the premise that motherhood is a social construct increasingly linked to communication processes, especially in the voluptuous offer of advice and guidelines of what is to be a mother. Taking on from this idea, this paper seeks to situate such debate. Based on the main approaches about motherhood in feminist studies, the paper presents a state-focused approach of this research in Brazil, bringing attention to three thematic-theoretical axes and to potential topics yet to be explored in media and motherhood studies. Keywords: media and motherhood; feminism; gender; literature review. Based on a general model of interaction, the present analysis attempts to account for the diversity of the ways space may be apprehended in lived experience. It leads to the definition of four configurations that correspond to as many regimes of relation with the environing world. The conventional space of the circulation of values takes the archetypical shape of the net (incarnated today by Internet). The operational space is that of our dealing with objects within a material environment seen as a tissue of stable and intelligible relations. The experienced space of bodies’ movement, to which one may give as an emblem the spiral, expresses the dynamics of sensitive relationships between the self and the other. The existential space is that of our presence in a universe without boundaries, which no one can properly represent oneself but that nonetheless haunts art and thought: its figure is the abyss.
