The horse, an animal which played a fundamental role in modern history, was also, within specific contexts, incorporated into dominant symbolic regimes, as signifier of status, power and nation. In this article, we discuss some of the manifestations in which the horse was used to cultivate Brazilian national illusions, in favor of patriarchal order, whiteness and class privileges, as demonstrated in epic representations of war. Although they are historically prominent expressions, other subjects and practices also emerge from Brazilian equestrian culture, destabilizing the symbolic hegemony, above all, women who, by showing themselves to be expert horse riders, defy cultural codes and resignify various dimensions of the human-equine relationship. Moreover, changes in practices and representations also triggers a feminization of the equestrian world which advances towards affective and sentimental models, focusing, in addition to sports and leisure, bonds of "care ” and services such as "therapies ” (medicalized or not). These representations and practices also give us food for thought on the boundaries and nuances of the human-animal relationship.

This paper brings some introductory lines to analyze public policies forCanine Visceral Leishmaniasis. Based on the case of Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil, we triedto show that there is a silencing of canine suffering in the evidence that public policiesfor Leishmaniasis start to be constituted only when the disease threatens human lives.Likewise, we show how policies of coexistence are produced and experienced muchmore by civil initiatives - almost always marginalized and even against public policies thought and executed by the government, when certain populations of dogs and humans are neglected by the public power.

Popular demonstrations in recent years have been marked not only by the multiplicity of demands, morality of ideas and the influence of social networks on the mobilization of large numbers of people they have also brought a new profile of young protesters using playful strategies of humor and cultural performances which affirm their personal identity in the midst of their political acting. This study aims to analyze the influence of "pop culture" on these young people's identity and moral characters, as well as to demonstrate that their performances are not random, but loaded with symbolism.

Humanity and animality are concepts constructed in order to create a certain understanding of what it is to he human. Although man is an animal, however, he is the only animal who cooks and does not do it only for his species. Humans feed on animals and feed other animals, whether for breeding, maintenance and selling, or for animals chosen for companionship. In this work, I propose a reflection based on food and body shape, these factors being determinant, although subject to social mobility, of the position occupied by human and non-human animals in the class structure.

The purpose of the article is to evaluate the impact of public policies onthe Brazilian port sector, based on a reform cycle started in the years 2000s, taking asan example the case of the port of Itajai, SC, Brazil. In fact, the intention is todemonstrate the role of workers and Unions when contesting the most damaging effectsof port privatization processes. We analyzed how the port unions built new ways tocooperate and propose alternative forms for organizing their work, thus also acting toguide the local port development policy.

This essay analyzes the rolezinhos and ostentation funk as movements carried out by young people in the cities and outlined mainly from 2013 on. It is relevant to problematize the relationship between communication, city, culture, otherness and technologies, that is, to question institutions, symbols and social events or phenomena which are strongly involved in the challenge of legitimizing the real and symbolic occupation of spaces and the interlocution of diverse actors in the urban scene. The rolezinhos and ostentation funk are cultural and identity flows which reflect the seductive power of the consumer world without adhering to a political project in the strict sense, but capable of opening themselves to politics. The rolezinhos and the ostentation funk channel perceptions which metamorphose the senses of the heterotopic scenarios of the metropolis, while they strengthen its attribute of communicational fabric.

The debate around the relationship with animals in contemporary society affects the most diverse geographical areas and social contexts. however, there are regions which seem to be shielded by this discussion, even though "speciesism" is at the center of its socioeconomic dynamics. this is the case of regions developed around firms focused on the meat industry, in which the slaughter of animals is the structuring activity of the territory and of economic and political relations. based on the case of concordia- sc, brazil, headquarters of the company sadia (brasil foods), we analyzed the sociopolitical relations which support, naturalize and reproduce the merely instrumental use of non-human sentient beings in the form of a pattern of territorial development. particularly, we seek to examine how the experience of settlers in dealing with animals for subsistence is appropriated by the industry's discourse, obliterating the possible moral objections to the activity. the ideological blocking of this issue might mean an intensification of the exploitation among the humans.
