Based on an analysis of newspapers and the iconographic scrutiny of a series of photographs, this article discusses the photography portrait market in Tabasco during the Porfirian period. It reviews the numerous portrait artists who worked between 1880 and 1910, and reexamines the role of Manuel de la Flor, considered a famous portrait artist with a degree of hegemony in the market. Yet, De la Flor was concerned with competitors and adapted his strategies in order to keep control of the photography portrait market. Tabasco’s production and consumption dynamics were complex, given that the public had portraits done with different photographers who are still barely known.

The rock art found on the cliffs of Lake Mensabak evinces elements linked to the notion and construction of the Mayan person during the post-classical period. To approach the way in which the “person” was conceptualized in the past, we first review these native concepts through Maya ethnographic and linguistic information within the anthropological model of personhood. Subsequently, we analyze two rock art panels on the Mensabak cliff and conclude by proposing that the Maya notion of person during the post-classical period in the region had a dividual and permeable character.

This paper examines the methodology of a research study undertaken within the doctoral program in Feminist Studies and Intervention at the University of Sciences and Arts of Chiapas (UNICACH). The analysis of a militant methodology based on an undisciplined feminist epistemology is developed and situated as part of a family of participatory research methodologies with social commitment. It is the result of mutual understandings established during a political affiliation that triggered collaborative action. It also addresses the three principles that guided research: knowing is transforming, horizontality, and affective involvement. Finally, it explores the research techniques used, emphasizing self-ethnography.

This article gives a descriptive account of some of the practices and knowledge of women hackers in relation to the mastery and appropriation of specialized computational techniques, based on a feminist methodology that involves the situated exploration of the person conducting this research. These findings, although still in the process of analysis, aim to outline a possible technological appropriation that will contribute to the feminist movement of the 21st century, through the principles of hacker culture, to build a new and viable feminist hacker struggle.

The objective of this article is to describe the genocidal social practices that were carried out against transgender women and sex workers in the city of Manizales between 2015 and 2019. The research was based on a case study, using a methodology of reflexivity and feminist epistemological approaches. The conclusions are: 1) policies of systematic weakening are implemented against this population sector, through various repertoires of institutional violence; 2) the objective of the practices being promoted is to impose hegemonic models of gender and sexuality on society; 3) trans women resist individually, collectively, and organizationally against repressive actions.

This paper reflects on the urgency of adopting a more complex notion of the nature of scientific knowledge, and how it is constructed, that shifts its emphasis from the assumptions of objectivity, neutrality, and universality to an interpretation that conceives it as a socially-configured, partial, uncertain, and complex phenomenon. A more complex and questioning analysis of science will broaden the possibilities of allowing citizens greater participation in the production and communication of science and establishing a dialogue of knowledge that recognizes the validity of other epistemologies as alternatives to scientific knowledge. A science that is willing to listen more attentively with humility and respect can learn to live with uncertainty and to design strategies that allow it to face its risks and modify its course.

This article explores the influence of music education in rural young women, based on their experiences as musicians in the San Martin Tilcajete Youth Philharmonic. A qualitative, gender-perspective methodology was used and in-depth interviews and life stories were conducted. The results show that the philharmonic was a project that sought to empower the agency of young women as political subjects, promoting their autonomy through music education. This initiative attempted to influence the empowerment processes of young women; however, there were driving factors such as family support and inhibitors related to traditional gender stereotypes. This led to conflicts, compensation, and negotiations, events that women go through to achieve their autonomy.
