Optimization of machine process parameters through 2D image layout enhancing and ArtCAM post-processing for 3D machining: Support program for the productivity and competitiveness of the metals and engineering industries 通过2D图像布局增强和3D加工的ArtCAM后处理来优化机器工艺参数:支持金属和工程行业的生产力和竞争力

3D machining has been one of the challenges in CNC milling and CNC router machines. It's quite difficult to create 3D relief from plain 2D image. To provide a very clean 3D relief, lot of resources, like software programs, machines, tools and time, is needed. This study provide an optimized way how to enhance the 3D output without sacrificing other factors like the machining time and tool life. Image layout enhancing and the use of ArtCAM postprocessing were applied in the study. As compared with the traditional machining strategy, machine relief was added in the operation. From the results, this strategy helps in the preparation of the 3D model for the engraving toolpath and reduces its machining time operations.

Utilization of cassegrain feed parabolic antenna design in increasing the efficiency of photovoltaic module 利用卡塞格伦馈源抛物面天线设计提高光伏组件效率

This paper presents the design of a transportable solar concentrating and tracking parabolic trough reflector that gathers higher energy yield in its photovoltaic (PV) module using the concept of the Cassegrain antenna system wherein the sun's rays are dashed to the structure's primary and secondary reflector before they are converged to the polycrystalline solar panel located at the trough's focus. Based from the system evaluation, the power output gathered from the whole system is 36.05% and 9.05% more effective than the static and sun-tracking solar panel, respectively. Likewise, the project yielded a solar panel efficiency of 12.94% which is 4.67% and 1.17% greater than the ones produced by the static and sun-tracking PV cell, correspondingly. Moreover, it has been calculated that the whole system charges 2 hours and 16.81 minutes faster than the static PV cell's battery, and 24.15 minutes quicker than the sun-tracking solar panel's battery.

Aural and photonic spectrum based digital pest controller for Oryza Sativa (rice) 基于声光光谱的水稻病虫害数字防治技术

A research study was conducted in Western Philippines University, Aborlan, Palawan from November 2013 to January 2014 to test a prototype of an alternative digital pest controller for rice which eliminates the use of chemicals. Two modules were developed to ascertain the attraction of pests: the day module operation covered the determination of frequency (60 Hz, 80 Hz, 100 Hz, 120 Hz) and sound intensity (20 dB, 50 dB, 80 dB); the night module operation determines the light color (white, yellow, blue, UV) and the light intensity (10 lux, 40 lux, 80 lux). The results for the day module operation showed that insects responded to 80 Hz at 50 dB. For the night module, the most number of insects were attracted to UV, at 80 lux intensity. These results indicated that insects are diversely attracted on different sound frequencies but are more inclined with modulated sound level and are attracted to lights with short wavelengths on higher light intensities.

Characterization of temperature profile in solid waste decomposition to demonstrate potential for harnessing thermal energy 固体废物分解的温度分布特征,以证明利用热能的潜力

A heat absorber was designed and tested to characterize the temperature profile in solid waste decomposition. This was conducted in a cell as a miniature model of a landfill. The characteristic of the profile was similar to actual landfill waste temperature data as reported in literature. The result shows the potential for harnessing thermal energy in organic waste decomposition. Follow up studies on the application is also suggested.

Sensor fusion for localization, mapping and navigation in an indoor environment 传感器融合定位,地图和导航在室内环境

This paper describes localization and navigation in an indoor environment with transparent objects. Although LIDAR proved to be a popular choice, its inability to detect glass surface requires another sensor to ensure navigation capability will work in all kind of environment. In this paper, sonar sensor is used in complement to laser due to its capability to detect hard surfaces and low cost. The experiment shows that a better map can be achieved when these two sensors are used.

During machining operations, user safety is a big factor need to consider. The more interaction of the user with the machine, the more the user is prone to accident due to mechanical or tool failures. Like in CNC systems, especially in milling and router machines, user interaction can be seen during manual tool change operations. This study presents the development of an automatic tool changer for the 3-axis computer numerically-controlled (CNC) router machine of the Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC). ATC reduces the cycle time of tool-change operations, thus, improving the machine productivity. Furthermore, ATC also ensures the user's safety during tool change operations. It allows complete machining where different toolings are required to make different operations like cut, engrave, drill and mill. This includes the use of a pneumatic or quick-change electrospindle and an ISO-20 tool holder system. The tool holder system makes the CNC router adaptable and flexible to different routing operations.

Effect of varying the step-size of least mean squares filter in the accuracy of extraction of passive RFID root-music direction-of-arrival estimates 改变最小均方滤波器步长对无源RFID根音乐到达方向估计提取精度的影响

This work establishes the extraction of root-multiple signal classification (root-MUSIC) direction-of-arrival (DoA) estimates of a passive radio frequency identification (RFID) tag system with a reader that utilizes a two-element uniform linear array. The accuracy of the estimates can be improved by using an adaptive filter called least mean squares algorithm (LMS) to reduce the effect of noise and carrier leakage before the extraction is done. Through the use of a simulation, random complex signals are primarily set from angle bearings of -90 through positive 90 degrees, inclusive of carrier leakage and noise, characterized as additive, white, random, and Gaussian-distributed. The LMS filter, with step sizes of 0.008, 0.003 and 0.002, is designed to detect the deterioration of affected parameters of the complex signal in order to reduce the inaccuracy of the estimates as effects of the added distortion. The accuracy of the estimates are compared to the actual DoA of the tag by measuring the error in degrees and with respect to the variation of the step-size. Simulations have also been done to observe the effect of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the received signal and the increase of the number of samples taken before extraction, in addition to the variation of the step size of the filter.

XBitTorrent: Localized latency-driven bittorrent XBitTorrent:局部延迟驱动的bittorrent

Peer-to-Peer systems was developed to compensate limitations of the internet and to reduce traffic among the nodes. In this way data transmission will be quicker and data distribution will be faster. One of the famous P2P distribution systems is BitTorrent. BitTorrent has gained reputation by its remarkable performance in distributing large files over the internet. Since BitTorrent and other P2P systems were usually established at the user level, they do not perceive information from the network. We investigated and demonstrated here an approach of improving the BitTorrent by integrating network information in the protocol. We consider here latency. This can be very useful for network applications since it provides a way for higher level protocols to infer states and problems within the network. High latency values would mean congestion and instability of a node, in which we can perform decisions to handle traffic effectively in the network. We integrated latency as an indicator in the selection of neighbors in the peerset. Also, we conducted experiments with several network scenarios to validate our approach. Results show that with our method, 86% reduction in the download time can be achieved, thus indicating highly significant improvement in performance.

We investigated and demonstrated here an approach of improving the BitTorrent by integrating network information in the protocol. We consider here latency. This can be very useful for network applications since it provides a way for higher level protocols to infer states and problems within the network. High latency values would mean congestion and instability of a node, in which we can perform decisions to handle traffic effectively in the network. We integrated latency as an indicator in the selection of neighbors in the peerset. Also, we conducted experiments with several network scenarios to validate our approach. Variable frequency DC/AC converter with EMI reduction 变频直流/交流变换器与EMI降低

This paper presents a way of generating a variable frequency sinusoidal signal in conjunction to the developed spread spectrum frequency modulation technique that is used to suppress the EMI caused by high switching frequencies. These are implemented through Verilog Hardware Descriptive Language (Verilog HDL) and synthesized on Altera DE2-70 FPGA board using Quartus tool chain to satisfy the low cost requirement and flexibility which are verified through (1) Modelsim simulations, (2) Debussy simulations and by (3) actual digital to analog conversion using DAC7541. For experimental validation, series of measurements are done on the output of the inverter prototype driven by the generated SPWM signal. Measurement results at the output SPWM show that the applied technique may have caused an increase in THD by 0.092% 0.039% and 0.087% at frequencies 50 Hz, 60 Hz and 70 Hz respectively, but it has significantly reduced the EMI peak with at least 12.8 dB.

An emotion-generation model for a robot that reacts after considering the dialogist 一个机器人在考虑对话者之后做出反应的情感生成模型

This paper proposes an emotion-generation model for a robot that distinguishes different aspects of a human's personality. The robot reacts differently, depending on the human communication it receives. In this cutting-edge research area, several studies have demonstrated robots that generate reactions to humans by judging their interaction. However, these reactions do not change when the communicating human displays a variety of personality traits. This is because the robot only responds to the input without taking the human's personality into account. To solve this issue, we propose an emotion-generation model for robots that produces different reactions depending on the human communication it receives. In this model, the robot has a degree of intimacy that judges the human's personality. The degree of intimacy increases when the human satisfies the robot's desire and decreases when he/she does not. The simulation results confirmed that the robot shows a friendly reaction to a human with a high degree of intimacy and an unfriendly reaction to one with a low degree of intimacy.
