In Japan, recently many laboratories are adopting Idea-Marathon System (IMS) for creative training of their researchers. It becomes more important how IMS can contribute to improve creativity through the typical IMS training in quantitative analysis. This paper explains analysis of empirical experiment for measuring effect of creativity improvement before and after IMS training method for about a 3 months period, especially for researchers in R&D and laboratories. To confirm the creativity influence to researchers in details, TTCT (Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking) Figural tests were selected. One major food manufacturer's laboratory in Tokyo, Japan offered us the cooperation for this experiment. There are two tests of TTCT Figural tests, i.e. Pre-test and Post-test. This paper describes the statistical analysis result of both Pre-test (Figural A test of TTCT) and the Post-test (Figural B test of TTCT) between which Idea-Marathon training was continued for about three months by all the participants. As the result of analysis between two TTCT tests scoring before and after IMS training for three months, IMS was found significantly effective to improve creative factors proposed in the TTCT test.

Online reviews on a service are important sources for service providers to improve their service delivery and service consumers to obtain information for decision making before their service acquisition. However, in the real situation, there are several points of view (dimensions) in service assessment using online reviews. This paper shows an empirical study to apply classification-based sentiment analysis on online reviews with multiple dimensions using natural language processing techniques. The aim of this study is to find the most influential part-of-speech on the sentimental analysis and the performance of the multi-dimensional classification methods. By the experiments on reviews of restaurants with five dimensions, i.e., taste, environment, service, price, and cleanness, we find out that adjective (JJ) has the most influential part-of-speech on the sentimental analysis and BRplus is the most efficient one with the classification accuracy of 85.89%.

The quality of a company's strategic planning is a key factor influencing its competitiveness and development prospects. We will demonstrate how an appropriate choice of user inter¬faces, knowledge acquisition tools and analytic decision support methods can stimulate the creativity of the strategic planners taking part in technological road mapping. With strategic planning formalized as a multicriteria decision problem, the usual process of debating and brainstorming is better focused on reaching a consensus solution in an efficient way. An intelligent road mapping support tool and publicly available technological foresight results assure a high quality of data gathering and interaction of experts with stakeholders. Real options are used to evaluate the opportunities, threats, challenges, and flexibility during the planning period. The above approach has been implemented as an intranet application and used to apply information technology (IT) foresight outcomes to establish IT investment plans in innovative companies that develop new products and launch them on the market.

To set an appropriate goal of SMT research for Thai-based translation, the comparative study of potential and suitability between phrase-based translation (PBT) and hierarchical phrase-based translation (HPBT) becomes an initial question. Thai-Chinese language-pair is chosen as experimental subject since they share most of common syntactic pattern and Chinese resource is numerous. Based on standard setting, we gain a result that 3-gram HPBT gains significantly better BLEU point over 3-gram PBT while 3-gram HPBT is approximately equal to 5-gram PBT. Moreover, from the results, a Chinese-to-Thai translation obtains better accuracies than a Thai-to-Chinese translation from every approach.

This paper presents an experimental study that explores the effects of background music on freehand drawing. In the experiment, two types of background music and two themes for freehand drawing were prepared. To control the consistency of these materials, we used a 2 (background music: dark vs. cheerful) x 2 (themes: dark vs. cheerful) mixed factorial design. In the experiment, the participants (n = 20) drew sketches for each theme while the background music was streamed. These results showed that the theme had a strong influence on the impressions for the sketches, while the background music had an effect on the amount of freehand drawing. These results suggests two distinctive types of creative mining for the explicit and implicit creative processes.

In aviation, Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) refers to the actions of fixing an air craft when it becomes out of order, or performing routine actions to keep the air craft in working order. MRO services are carried out strictly under the instruction of corresponding MRO task cards, which detail all the information including work content, procedure, equipment, etc. needed for MRO technicians to complete a MRO service. A task card is usually prepared in a word document. It may contain over a hundred pages, and possibly in multi-languages for international MRO service providers. While English task cards are assumed to be available along with air planes, their multilanguage translation remains a tedious and time-consuming problem. In this paper, we demonstrate an English-Chinese bilingual MRO task card generator system called TaskCardGeneratore2c. Given the work content input by the user, TaskCardGeneratore2c examines the existence of similar bilingual MRO task cards in the local repository, and returns the one to the user directly if it exists, or otherwise, does the English-to-Chinese translation over the corresponding monolingual English task card. The translated bilingual task card will be sent back to the user for final proof. With TaskCardGeneratore2c, human's repetitive time-consuming efforts on bilingual task cards preparation can be greatly reduced, improving the working efficiency and quality of MRO services. A field study was conducted at an international MRO service company to further evaluate TaskCardGenerator.

We have constructed "AwareRium'' that is an enhanced group home with ubiquitous technology to establish person-centered care. The group home is a facility to provide care for Alzheimer's and dementia patients. The group home is effective in curbing the progress of Alzheimer's dementia. A small number of elderly persons with no relations in need of care, support, or supervision, such as Alzheimer's and dementia patients, can live together in the group home. In this paper, we introduce the design concept of AwareRium and the sensing and projection devices installed therein. We present two support systems for position awareness using these devices in AwareRium: a system for identifying and noticing dangers and a support system for context awareness using sound cues.

This paper presents a method of improving semantic expressions in pictogram chat conversations between Japanese and Chinese speakers, through use of a semantic pamphlet. The semantic pamphlet lists the meanings of 335 pictograms in 12 categories and provides 15 examples of functional statements. In the pictogram chat system, users can look through each pictogram category by clicking a button on the interface. They can also learn how to form sentences by looking the functional statements in the semantic pamphlet. Twelve pairs of Japanese and Chinese speakers participated in the experiment. Each pair engaged in two conversations using the pictogram chat system: one with the help of the pamphlet and one without. The experiment results showed that (1) use of the pictogram pamphlet raised the participants' pictogram comprehension rate, and they made fewer mistakes in communication, (2) use of the pictogram pamphlet increased the participants' use of tense pictograms and reduced their use of noun pictograms, and (3) when participants used the pictogram chat system the second time, they produced longer sentences with more conjunctions.

Team creativity is a key resource for developing a successful product or service. Creativity support groupware was invented to elevate a team creativity by providing interactive data visualizations, stimulating creative ideas by applying creativity techniques, and breaking communication barriers over the geographic distances and the different time availabilities. Team characteristics, which are the traits of a team combined from the traits of individual members, have strong impacts to the team creativity through a groupware use. The team characteristics can be wisely adjusted for achieving a higher degree of team creativity. This study examined the impacts of team characteristics, i.e., the background knowledge, the difference of background knowledge, the friendship closeness, and the difference of friendship closeness among team members, to the team creativity. Based on the statistic of the 90 KJ charts constructed by 30 innovation teams supported by a KJ Method groupware, the best team formation for the highest team creativity performance consists of team members who have high background knowledge in problems under consideration, and have the same level of friendship regardless the amount of its level.
