This article deals with the phenomenon of organized crime that has emerged as an urgent and serious problem in Poland during the transformation period. The solid background for organized crime group activity was created during the communist time. Due to the strong position of the police (that time called militia), and the security body, organized crime was not so well developed. After 1989, the organized crime groups (OCG) started to be more active, both in the domestic and the international market. The patterns of organized crime group activity were presented. So the main objective of the paper is to reveal the evolution of OCG activities and their scale in Poland. The organized crime groups have proven to be skillful in the exploitation of legal loopholes. The OCG became less violent, and focused more on economic crimes.

Transformations of employment structures reflect changes in the economic structure. This structure is closely related to economic development. The importance and complexity of this field make structural changes one of the most important areas of scientific research. Detailed recognition and deepening of knowledge about sectoral transformations of employment structures, as well as current and future trends in this area, are necessary for finding optimal solutions that will accelerate changes in the economy. The purpose of the study is to identify and evaluate changes in the sectoral employment structure in the Silesian Voivodeship in the years 2009-2017, with particular emphasis on intra-sectoral changes in the service sector. In connection with this, an analysis of structural changes was carried out in the Silesian Voivodeship in the examined period. The research was based on data obtained from the Local Data Bank. The analysis of structural changes in employment was conducted using structure and dynamics indicators as well as one of the known measures of structure diversity. The results of the analysis allowed this study to recognize and assess changes within the sectoral employment structure within the studied region.

This study identified the major trends in external migration, typical of the current development stage of the Republic of Belarus and their effect on the economy. The consequences of the global financial and economic crisis had a considerable impact on migration flows around the globe. These processes are reflected in the growing tension in the labour markets in different countries. The basic features of the Belarusian labour market remain the low share of the private sector and excessive state interventionism. For the Belarusian economy, which is in transition, the initial inflow of foreign labour resources at the beginning of the 2000s has transformed into a clear trend towards an outflow of skilled workers. This trend requires a detailed analysis of current processes and identification of the major directions and causes of migration, especially in the depopulation processes observed. The analysis presented in this paper is based on data from the National Statistics Committee of the Republic of Belarus and covers the years 2014-2018. The comparative statistical analysis method used in the study (creating time series reflecting changes of the phenomenon over time) identified the current trends and characteristic features of internal migration processes in the Republic of Belarus. Moreover, the main directions of population movements were determined as well as the causes of changes in the structure and intensity of migration flows.

The paper aims to identify respondents’ attitudes to and awareness of the retirement age and social protection, as well as their expectations with regard to educational activities in this area. The research was carried out in 2018, using an anonymous PAPI type interview on a non-random sample of economics students (N = 703 people) who were either full-time or part-time students. The detailed objectives of the analysis were related to the following issues: – elementary knowledge of social insurance (an open question), – attitudes towards future retirement, care for the elderly, and social solidarity (semantic differential technique combined with the Likert scale), – expectations and opinions regarding the attractiveness and importance of social insurance as a subject of education (techniques as above), – the desire to deepen knowledge in this area (a dichotomous question). The conducted research has shown that despite a lack of expressive attitudes towards social and pension insurance, respondents were interested in deepening their knowledge in this area. This implies the need to create teaching programmes that would broaden this knowledge and build a new insurance awareness based not on demanding attitudes but on the conviction that the retirement future is created independently of the existing system and institutions.

The structural transformations occurring in the Polish dairy industry, to a large extent, arise from the processes of its adaptation to the uniform EU market conditions. The thorough modernization of milk production and processing technologies has enabled the producers to achieve a considerable improvement of the quality of dairy products, which alongside the cost and price advantage of Polish dairy producers is an important contributor to the competitiveness in the EU market. The purpose of this study has been to make an assessment of the prospects for further growth in the competitiveness of the Polish dairy industry in international markets. The dairy industry in Poland was compared to selected EU countries with regards to the quality of raw material supplies, the worth and structure of the production of dairy products, labour efficiency, and production concentration. The study showed that any further growth in the export of Polish dairy products will require more intensive promotional campaigns, so that European consumers would be able to identify Poland with a greater array of dairy products. KonkurencyjnoŚĆ polskiego przemysŁu mleczarskiego na rynku ue

The purpose of the paper is to provide specific information on the labour supply in Slovakia based on the analysis of data collected from Slovak households. In line with the human capital theory, we consider households as essential in both shaping and providing the labour supply. The subject of the research survey were Slovak households and their members comprising a representative sample of the Slovak population with respect to the size, type and regional distribution of households as well as the age of their adult members. The sample consisted of 1,753 households and 4,855 household members as respondents. We looked at their willingness to make various choices in order to get a job and retain it as well as their family or household life strategies to maintain a work-life balance in view of their attitudes to sharing the family responsibilities. We used nonparametric statistical tests to establish the order of preferences for respective issues and the Spearman coefficient to find out the statistically significant relation between the age of the respondents and the choices they are most likely to prefer. The results have shown that age is a decisive factor in the responses to several of the questions, which is important to take into consideration as most of the labour demand in the following years will be created by the loss of older workers due to retirement or other reasons. This means that employers need to be prepared for a generational change and may be motivated to consider age management as one of their strategies to deal with the predicted labour shortage.

The paper deals with the supply side of the Slovak labour market. The main goal of the present study was to examine what variables contribute to the explanation of working over-time (e.g. devoting more than 40 hours per week to paid work) separately for women and men. A binomial logistic regression was used and factors were identified separately for men and women. The data were drawn from the results of primary research conducted in the year 2018. Results suggest that the probability of working overtime is higher for both men and women with higher income. It seems that the substitution effect of an increase in income dominates the income effect. Household circumstances influence the probability of one’s working overtime. In those multi-member households where the husband has higher level of education than the wife, the husband will more likely work overtime and women will be less likely to work overtime. The presence of very young children in households has a significant impact on the reporting of women working overtime. Women with preschool children were less likely to work overtime than women in households in which there were older children or households without children.

The aim of this study was to identify changes in the agricultural production volume for selected branches in 2013-2017 and to estimate the future trends in Belarus and in Poland. The follow-ing comparative analyses used selected per capita intensity indices, thechange rate index and a logistic function. The study found that in both countries the greatest decrease took place in the plant production volume, while animal production volume remained more stable. The fact that its foreign trade is heavily dependent on Russia is the greatest problem for Belarus. Foreign trade in Poland is more stable and less dependent on Russia owing to the influence of the European Union.

Flexibility of the labour market and employment in atypical forms has been indicated for years as a potential source of more effective competition. However, both types of flexibility constitute important changes for employees that cause concern in terms of employment security. In this con-text, the aim of the research was to determine opinions about the advantages and disadvantages of employment in atypical forms. The research was carried out in a chain of pharmacies and among paramedics, i.e. in entities where flexible employment constitutes the basic employment relation-ship. In the respondents’ opinion, there are more disadvantages than advantages of employment in flexible forms, and the main disadvantage of atypical work is employment insecurity.

This study investigates the influence of B2C sustainability labels on customer purchasing behavior in the olive oil market. Primary data was collected using an online survey (CAWI method) conducted among a sample of 234 residents of large cities (over 50.000 people) of the Mazowieckie voivodship who declared regular purchase of olive oil. A validated questionnaire containing an experimental part regarding willingness to pay (WTP) was used as a tool of study. Collected data showed that sustainability labels were not an important factor in olive oil choice. A large part of the studied group did not know the certificates and did not understand their meaning, or showed no motivation to look for such information on the product label. Most of this group also did not express any willingness to pay a higher price for certified olive oil. For other respondents, certificates regarding the idea of sustainable consumption were an added value; however, this added value differed among individual certificates, which was evident in the form of a varied level of WTP. The results of the study show that the sustainable consumption issue determines purchasing behavior only to a small extent. However, it can be expected that the dissemination of knowledge and pro-environmental awareness will lead to an increase of the importance of sustainable labels in making purchasing decisions in the food market.
