This paper presents a top-down design of the microstrip coupled line Band pass filter (BPF) embedded in low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) for 5 GHz wireless LAN applications. It includes the design, simulation, fabrication and measurements. The filter circuit was designed and simulated based on Agilent Advanced Automation (ADS2005A) software. Then, the physical dimensions of components and the filter itself is subsequently determined and the physical design is later performed in the layout window of Empire XcCEL. All measured simulations are analyzed and compared to design specifications and characteristics (curve fitting). Any inaccuracy is taken into account where corrected design is further recovered.

Design of moving massage LCD display system (MMDS) via Short Message Service (SMS) entry using Rabbit 2000 microcontroller 基于Rabbit 2000单片机的移动按摩短信显示系统的设计

This paper presents a design of moving message LCD display system (MMDS) via short message service (SMS) entry using Rabbit 2000 microcontroller. The objectives of the project are to design and integrate the hardware and software that interface the RCM2000 microcontroller, GSM module and LCD module in order to create MMDS. Currently, the moving text message display modules are using wired entry via computer, keyboard or remote control entry .However, this system receives message through Short Message Service (SMS). It will check the authorization of the phone number and the microcontroller will convert the message that will be display into LCD format. GSM modules and a SIM have been used in order to hook it up to the GSM network. Both hardware and software of the developed prototype are fully functioning and the tests have been successful. In conclusion, the MMDS system can replace the conventional entry methods.

Measurement and analysis of temperature rise caused by handheld mobile telephones using infrared thermal imaging 利用红外热成像技术测量和分析手持移动电话产生的温升

With the increase in the number of commercial mobile phones available and the longer periods these products are used in close proximity to the human body, concern has grown about the possible health hazard from exposure to RF electromagnetic radiation (EMR). Mobile phone users often complain about burning sensations or heating of the ear region. The increase in temperature may due to thermal insulation by the phone, conduction of the heat produced in the phone by battery currents and running of the radio frequency (RF) electronic circuits, and electromagnetic field (EMF) energy absorbed by the user's head. This study investigates local heating effects of the skin region including ear-skull area that handheld mobile phones can cause in humans. The goal is to visualize, quantify, and compare these thermal effects in various parameters condition and subjects using different commercial mobile phones in the normal contact position during standardized conversations. Infrared thermal imaging was used in this measurement and investigation. It is well suited to investigate temperature rises of the side of the face or the ear-skull region when using handheld mobile phones because it is able to accurately measure two-dimensional (2D) temperature fields with high thermal, temporal, and spatial resolutions Thermal imaging camera is capable of measuring local temperatures directly, as opposed to other methods, which can only derive temperatures if the electromagnetic near-field pattern of the phone, the energy-absorbing tissue properties, and the blood-flow situation are exactly known. The strength of local temperature rises is an indicator of the total exposure related to radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation from the mobile phone. Group of female subjects were used as samples. These subjects were requested to make a phone call on a standardized tone. Two different time durations were allocated to see the difference in the temperature rise. After 15 minutes of conversation, the mobile phone was removed to acquire thermal image on the right and left sides of ear-skull area. Then, the conversation was continued for another 15 minutes and the images for the same area were captured again. The temperature for both, the ear-skull area and temperature of the mobile front surface were captured after 30 minutes exposure to see the thermal equilibrium between these two temperatures. The entire captured images were collected and analyzed. It is shown in this study that different commercially available handheld mobile phones can cause very different thermal effects under identical experimental conditions. The measurement results are expected to help consumers in choosing those phones that cause the least thermal influences and biological effects. They might also help change the phone user's behavior in order to minimize the exposure to electromagnetic radiation.

Single step microwave imaging in the time domain using FDTD-based gradient minimization 基于fdtd梯度最小化的时域单步微波成像

This paper deals with single step microwave imaging for reconstructing the dielectical properties of the unknown targets in 2D. The image reconstruction algorithm is based on the gradient minimization of an augmented cost function defined as the different between measured and calculated fields. The algorithm requires two successive steps for convergent: the direct and the adjoint solutions. The forward-backward time stepping algorithm, implementing the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method with PML absorbing boundaries was used in the calculation. Image reconstruction was based on Born approximation in which the solution was obtained after the first iteration. Multiple view simulated data was used to validate the accuracy of this inversion method. Results indicate that this technique can accurately detect and locate unknown targets with different contrast ratios.

Microwave radiation effect — a test on white mice 微波辐射效应——对小白鼠的试验

Microwave and radio frequency (RF) radiation technologies have been used in a wide range of applications. These microwave and radio frequency (RF) radiation techniques produce electromagnetic fields (EMFs). EMFs are invisible electrical and magnetic forces radiating from the sources and generate an electro pollution phenomenon. While there have been many benefits from the use of RF radiation, people now are concerned that long-term exposure could affect their body biological system and health. The power deposition within the body from RF radiation is never uniform as it varies depends on the electrical properties of body tissues. Therefore, the experimental study was carried out, to study the biological effects on blood, internal organs, physical activities and birth rate on laboratory mice as the samples. The samples were exposed under radio frequency radiation for certain period of time. The control samples, which were under free radiation, were also involved in the experimental study as to compare the effects. After few months of exposure the samples were observed to be less active and sleepy. For biological test, the samples were taken to Veterinary Laboratory at Bukit Tengah, Seberang Prai Tengah, Pulau Pinang. This was carried out on the first week of every month, for seven months period. The same test was also carried out for the Control sample. The blood tests were done to observe any change in average packed cell volume (PCV), hemoglobin, red blood cells and white blood cells. It showed that the average White Blood Cells level increases as the samples were kept longer under the RF radiation while the average Red Blood Cells drops to about 3 million cells per micro liter. The exposure to RF radiation has some biological effects to the laboratory mice as well as human being, as they have some similarities in biological characteristics.

Many Defense and Space research Organizations demand experts in RF and Communication Engineering for which many Universities provide Post graduation Degree into the field of Advanced Microwave Engineering, So this work propose a effective course structure at Undergraduate level to prepare students for the same.

A compact monopole array with decoupled ports 具有解耦端口的紧凑单极子阵列

In compact arrays, tight element spacing results in strong mutual coupling. This may cause severe system performance degradation. The effects of the coupling can be alleviated through the introduction of a decoupling network. An alternative solution comprises of a multi-port feed network which excites the antenna elements in accordance with the eigenvectors of the scattering parameter matrix of the array. This paper describes the design of a novel 4-element monopole array. The modal feed network of the array is implemented as a planar ring-type circuit in stripline with four coupled line sections. This implementation offers a significant reduction in size, resulting in a very compact adaptive array.

Design of hairpin band pass filters for K-Band application k波段发夹带通滤波器的设计

This paper presents Chebyshev three and four poles microstrip hairpin filter for radar applications. The filters are operated at K-band frequency segment of 20-20.3 GHz. The filters were designed using Genesys software and implemented on Roger 5870 substrate. The results from simulation and measurement show that both filters were operating at the desired specification. Based on the experimental analysis, it was observed that the filter with four elements better than the three which was quite agree to other researchers.

Compact broadband PCML bandpass filter with broad upper stop band 紧凑型宽带PCML带通滤波器具有宽上阻带

A simple broadband parallel coupled microstrip line (PCML) bandpass filter with compact design is proposed. A PCML structure with two feeding network of various widths is characterized by an equivalent J-inverter network. The extracted parameters indicate that the normalized J susceptance and equivalent electrical length are frequency dependent. A pair of PCML structure with middle resonator, without ground plane aperture at PCML structure and capacitive open-ended stub at the middle resonator, is proposed. The proposed design is further optimized by adjusting the length and width of the middle resonator. Three broadband bandpass filter with PCML structure of various coupling strengths have been designed. The simulated and measured insertion and return loss responses show good agreement with bandwidth of over 80%, return loss of better than -16 dB and 250% broad upper stopband.

This paper presents the design of a compact planar inverted-F antenna for Radio Frequency identification (RFID). The antenna has a reading range more than 5 m with resonant frequency 915 MHz. The antenna is designed as two parallel patches. The dimensions of the lower patch control the resonant frequency and the reading range. The paper presents how to choose the dimensions of each of the patches and the shorting wall to control the resonant frequencies and the gain of the antenna. A design and simulation of PIFA based on this geometry for RFID technology is also presented.
