This study begins from the realisation of the important contributions of employees’ personality traits and ethical behaviour in the workplace to business success. Therefore, it is imperative that further studies are conducted especially in Hospitality Industry in Malaysia, where there is paucity of research in this area. This study aims to understand the relationship of the Big Five personality traits (Extraversion, Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism) in predicting ethical behaviour of employees. A sample of 150 employees from The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Kuala Lumpur accepted the invitation and filled out the survey questionnaire. In a series of regression analyses, we found that the studied variables accounted for 92.8% of the variance in employees’ ethical behaviour. Results show that for the employees at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Openness to Experience personality trait contributes the most to ethical behaviour at their workplace, followed by Agreeableness and Conscientiousness. This paper discusses the results from the social, psychological, and human resource perspectives, as well as their implications for human resource management.

This is a research of managerial performance in public sector. This research has two objectives, first, to test the effect of performance-based budgeting on the performance of government officials. Second, examine the role of leadership style in moderating the effect of performance-based budgeting on the performance of government officials. This research uses a quantitative approach. The questionnaires were distributed to local government officials in Pamekasan regency, Indonesia. The sampled 131 respondents were civil servants working in local government work units. The analysis technique uses Partial Least Square. Hypothesis test results found that performance-based budgeting affects the managerial performance of government officials. However, leadership has not proven to play a role as a variable that is able to moderate the effect of performance-based budgeting on the performance of government officials.

Intrinsic motivation is one of the main driving forces for students’ interest and attitude towards learning STEM subjects such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Unfortunately, students’ interest and attitude towards STEM subjects are on the decline. A continued decline, if unchecked, will affect the number of students’ enrolment into the STEM fields. This study was conducted to investigate the students’ interest, attitude and intrinsic motivation towards learning STEM subjects by appraising the pro educational modules that include assembling and dismantling the minimalist robots and by providing software training to the students. The results of hypothesis testing of P-value generated via Statistical Packages of Social Sciences (SPSS) v2.5 indicate the effectiveness of Minimalist Robot Education Programme. The students’ interest, attitude and intrinsic motivation show a significant difference towards the learning of STEM. The findings also show that all the alternative hypotheses: (1) students’ interest towards learning STEM is increased as a result of participating in the Minimalist Robotic Education Programme; (2); students’ attitude towards learning STEM increased as a result of participating in the Minimalist Robotic Education Programme

Many students exhibit fear of speaking in English in the English as Second Language (ESL) classrooms. Additionally, there are limited studies in this area of concern among the undergraduates in Sarawak. Hence, this study aimed to identify the students‟ anxiety level towards speaking English based on four components, namely communication apprehension, test anxiety, fear of negative evaluation, and comfort in using English in the classrooms. This study also examined whether there is any significant difference in the level of anxiety in terms of gender. A total of 592 undergraduates from two public institutions of higher learning in Sarawak were involved in this study. A Public Speaking Class Anxiety Scale (PSCAS) by Yaikhong and Usaha (2012) was adopted in this study to measure anxiety in the ESL speaking classes. The results gathered through the questionnaires were analysed using SPSS package to determine the students‟ speaking anxiety levels and the significant difference in the level of anxiety in speaking English in terms of gender. Thefindings revealed that undergraduates experienced an average level of speaking anxiety. T-test analysis of the findings in the study also portrayed that generally the female undergraduates experienced higher speaking anxiety as compared to the male undergraduates in all the four factors of ESL speaking anxiety. Among the four factors of speaking anxiety, only the factor of „comfort in using English‟ in the classrooms showed a statistically significant difference between male and female undergraduates. Findings of this study would be significant as knowing the level of anxiety among the undergraduates in ESL classrooms will provide the basis for educators to

Halal management has received a wide interest globally. One aspect under halal management is pertaining to halal hospitality, whereby the concept of shariah compliant hotels is considered as an innovative concept and has gained a lot of attention as of late. Shariah compliant concept has received special interest in various operations as the general public are increasingly more aware of the niche market that Islamic tourism has brought forward. However, the concept of Shariah compliance is seen as not well understood in the Malaysian context alas the implementation is still mediocre. This paper seeks to examine the awareness and perception of hoteliers towards Shariah concepts. Specifically, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the awareness and perception of hoteliers towards this concept from the perception of small and medium hotel operators. Qualitative approach was applied by carrying out face-to-face interviews with 11 hoteliers in the northern region of Malaysia. It was found that awareness on the definition of shariah compliance is a critical factor in implementing this concept, hence instilling awareness regarding the shariah compliant concept is crucial so that misconceptions are minimized. The significance of this study is to bring about awareness of Shariah hotel operations to the parties involved in the management of the hotel, tourists, hotel guests, owners, and other hospitality service companies. Data obtained from this study is forecasted to aid in awareness to the hotel management and stakeholders on the implementation of shariah practices.

The growth of interest in school effectiveness has been striking and is gaining momentum. Similarly in Malaysia, school effectiveness has become a dominant theme in contemporary educational reform and development. Thus, the growing concern about educational reform has resulted in a wide variety of school effectiveness interventions, initiatives and strategies. Although school effectiveness has become the central focus in most schools, there is still a strong need to determine the constructs or dimensions that are suitable to measure school effectiveness in Malaysian secondary schools. In this study, a focus group interview consisting of eight selected excellent and senior school principals were conducted. The findings from the focus group interview indicated 5 indicators for school effectiveness which comprised academic performance, school programme, organizational effectiveness, learning environment and school achievement. The findings also indicated 15sub-indicators for school effectiveness consisting of curriculum, public exam, student assessment, academic programme, co-curriculum programme, student development, resource management, technology advancement, data and information management, teaching and learning, community relation, staff professional development,, award and recognition, innovation and niche area.

English language learning is often perceived as a static mode of classroom learning activities. Hence, interactive teaching materials are necessary for grabbing learners’ attention span and interests, and in enhancing their involvement. DishZle a 2-in-1 self-designed language game, focuses on vocabulary and sequencing activities. DishZle deals with various local traditional Malaysian dishes. Hence, the game introduces the learners to the special and unique ingredients and the processes involved in preparing the dishes. They can develop their knowledge of local dishes and improve their proficiency in the English language (speaking, vocabulary and linkers). The game is suitable for beginner to intermediate learners of English (as lead-in activity or post activity of a lesson) in which it introduces cultural topics, which are related to local dishes to their students. This study is a preliminary study to identify the participants’ reactions towards DishZle (effectiveness of using this game in learning the vocabulary and sequencing skills), language learning challenges they face during the game and suggestions to improve the game. The method used was a semi-structured interview, involving 17 participants (diploma students). Most participants claimed that both games were interesting, fun, interactive (communicate with team members) and informative (learn new words and steps to prepare local dishes). It is recommended that language games can often be used as part of teaching methods in ESL classroom as they enhance fun learning, communicative competency, teamwork and

The Asian Productivity Organisation developed Green Productivity (GP) as a strategy to leverage the power of productivity in order to improve the quality of our environment. GP can foster the creative exchange between people to (i) achieve a better quality of life for all, (ii) support social justice and fairness for citizenry, and (iii) enhance prosperity for their enterprises. This study aims to demonstrate the GP “Success in Six” model on a company that has been in the bottled water industry for over 52 years and manufactures its own 3and 5-gallon bottled water. Through the model, we perform a „walk through survey‟ method to generate and evaluate GP options with the assistance of an eco-map, i.e., a tool for mapping where the location of environmental problems and inefficiencies lie. Subsequently, we leverage on Material Flow Cost Accounting (MFCA) as a quantitative tool to provide recommendations that increase their resource productivity and reduce operational costs. From the analysis and through a material flow profit-and-loss statement, we observe that the proportion of positive products to negative products was 77% to 23%. The GP recommendation resulted in a 55% raw material cost reduction and 10% increase in recycling earnings.
