This paper examines the alternation forms between the 2nd person treatment —tú, usted, sumercé and vos— when it comes to address a single interlocutor in Bogotá, Colombia. Whilst a case vaguely described in the literature it is though quite frequent and systematic in the Spanish of Bogotá. Based on oral data (fragments of spontaneous conversations and direct observations) plus the information provided by both personal impression along with sociolinguistic questionnaires and the social media, we describe three types of pronominal alternation —1. Intra-verb (type I), 2. Intra-sentence (type II) and 3. Extra-sentence (type III)—. Our aims fall on qualitatively determine of the linguistic, social and pragmatics parameters which facilitate these constructions.

Among the multiple lines of research that have as their object the name of a person, one of the least studied is the one related to the motivations present in the selection of the first name. Certain factors influencing data collection and the inability to know the true reasons for the choice from the most accessible sources complicate these studies. In the present work, the interview and the questionnaire are explored, within the multiple sources, as fundamental ways to obtain data on the motivations and references used. As a result of previous research and the considerations raised in this article, a motivational classification of first names based on the structure - referent relationship is proposed. This classification was applied to a small corpus of names, obtaining favorable results.

The New Grammar of the Spanish Language (2009) defines ambiguous nouns in terms of gender as those that refer to the same inanimate entity, both male and female, «but do not usually designate sexed beings». Some can be analyzed as late developments, after the restructuring of gender that followed the loss of neutral and casual flexion, together with verbs roots that show similar vacillations to those originated after the evolutionary processes that emerged in the transition from Latin into Romance languages. Among them we find the case of the word tizne, whose variations throughout the history of the Spanish language will be the fundamental object of the present study.

The purpose of this document is to provide an initial description of the intonation features of the Spanish language in contact with the Otomi language spoken in San Ildefonso Tultepec. The declarative and interrogative statements used by bilingual speakers are described and compared, and similarities and differences regarding the Mexican Spanish StandardVariety are traced (De-la-Mota, Martín Butragueño and Prieto, 2010). The study lies within the autosegmental (AM) metrical model and follows the considerations of the Sp-ToBI transcription system, set forth by Estebas-Vilaplana and Prieto (2008). The results show similarities among the declarative and interrogative statements used by bilingual speakers. However, there are clear differences regarding the standard variety.

The aims of this article are a) to describe the tonal configurations used in statements of contact Spanish in the area of San Miguel Canoa, Puebla, and b) to show the relationship between pitch accents and social variables such as gender, age, educational level, and bilingualism of the informants. The analysis of these semi-spontaneous speech utterances showed that i) it is a variety that promotes the use of pitch accents with (very) early-peak alignment, such as H*, L+H* and L+>H*, both in prenuclear and nuclear positions, ii) the nuclear pitch configurations L+H* L% and L+>H* L%, reinforced by the upstep diacritic at times, characterize the statements of broad, narrow and contradiction focus in this variety of Spanish, and iii) the use of pitch accents whose peak its early it is correlated with adults or older people, who have a low or no educational level, and who are usually bilingual Nahuatl-Spanish. These findings contribute to research on prosodic contact and prosody of Mexican Spanish.

The objective of this paper is to describe the prosodic features of the final intonation contour of minor intonational phrases (ip) and the tonemes of major intonational phrases (IP) in Mexico City’s Spanish variety. The speech data was taken from a spontaneous speech corpus made from speakers from two social networks: neighborhood and labor. Final intonation contours of ip show a predominantly rising movement. These contours are generally produced with greater length in the last syllable of the ip, which represents the most significant difference between both networks in the case of oxitone endings. On the other hand, tonemes are predominantly descendant, although the circumflex accent has an important number of cases within the data set. Tonemes produced by the neighborhood network are produced with larger length than those from the labor network.
