Over the past 10 years, the use of distributed generation (DG) has become one of the important directions in the development of the electric power industry in many countries across the world. According to its purpose, DG is used to supply remote electricity consumers. In conditions of market uncertainty in the development of the energy sector, one of the most profitable solutions for increasing the reliability of consumer power supply is to install a small-scale generation near the distant loads. Under such option the risks of energy shortage and loss of power supply from power source of the main network are reduced, reliability of power supply is improved, the energy quality parameters are improved, power and energy losses are reduced. However, the growth of the DG penetration in electric power systems (EPS) has not only positive aspects, but also creates certain technical problems that are associated with fluctuations of EPS parameters as well as with DG controllability under normal and emergency conditions. These problems can be solved but at the cost of more complex EPS dispatch and automatic control. The solution requires new mathematical models to substantiate the development of EPS and power supply systems, to analyze and to manage their state. In this article the authors propose a novel mathematical model for DG planning and optimization basing on integral quality criterion that incorporates power supply quality and reliability.

This paper aims to present the most suitable choice for the electrical connection of two current conducting paths. In this regard, the paper proposes both electrical and mechanical analysis of the connection of the two current paths in three distinct modes. The purpose of this analysis is to determine the elastic deformation field and the temperatures occurring in the construction parts of the electrical connection due in particular to thermal stresses. On two experimental stand will be performed tests to determine the mechanical stress, respectively thermal stresses of an electrical connection from a bus bar system connected in three distinct modes.

The paper present an interactive kiosk that can be used to increase the students’ interest in Sensors and transducers Laboratory. It also has a teaching goal but without being a virtual laboratory. The main issue we intend to solve using this interactive kiosk in the field of education, as a novelty, is to reduce students’ lack of interest in practical work. The advantage is interaction improvement of the student with the teacher by bringing useful, dynamic and interactive information about the laboratory and the activities carried out here. Last but not least, the low cost can also be considered in the context of growing interest in open source. The web interface is accessible to any type of user and beyond providing information about students’ projects, it offers the possibility of sending an email about the issue of a lab or course followed under the guidance of a teacher working in this laboratory.

The paper proposes a solution for monitoring of cardiovascular parameters during home-based hand rehabilitation. The most important cause of long-term disability in Europe is cerebral vascular accident (CVA) or stroke. The effects of stroke can vanish after a short period or can remain for the rest of the life depending on therapeutic program. The system developed for this study is not only therapeutically devices that allow the movement of hand for physical exercises controlled by electromyography (EMG) but also record one or more biomedical parameters such as: electromyogram (EMG), electrocardiogram (ECG), pulse wave, heart rate (HR), temperature, respiration rate, non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) or oxygen concentration in the blood (SpO2). These physiological parameters are selected according to the physician’s prescription and the patient needs. In this paper it is presented an application that refers to the hand rehabilitation of post-stroke. It was observed the cardiovascular system status, analyzing the heart rate variability. During therapeutic procedure it was recorded ECG (1 lead) and pulse wave (using an ear lobe sensor). After that HRV was calculated for each signal. The results were used to determine the stress level induced by the rehabilitation program.

The need to reduce memory and processing power requirements in order to achieve implementations of dedicated structures with satisfying settling times for any type of process has lead to the development of the fuzzy logic minimal control algorithm. A minimal approach is applied to all three components: fuzzification, decision and defuzzification interface levels. The obtained algorithm has a normalized, and thus versatile, structure. In these conditions its evaluation consists of the analysis of the performance of a control system obtained by varying the parameters (amplifying factors) of the minimal algorithm.

Medium voltage circuit breakers are important components on the chain of production, transmission and distribution of the energy to the consumers. The circuit breaker importance is from its capacity to make and break the currents from normal rated parameters and from short circuit currents. Over time the circuit breakers are losing them properties to break the high currents because of ageing and other electrical and mechanical stresses. From this fact is necessary to monitoring some parameters of circuit breaker. The goal of circuit breakers monitoring is to know its condition for minimize the equipment failure risk and to prevent undesirable interruptions and their effects. The paper presents the importance of a medium voltage circuit breaker with SF_6 in the power system, a monitoring system which was interfacing with the circuit breaker, respectively the waveforms and values obtained from its.

Water-based suspensions of magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) containing magnetite (Fe3O4) nanocrystals in the form of magnetosomes (MS) chained inside the bacteria cells have been exposed to radiofrequency fields with the aim of observing how the electromagnetic energy is converted and expressed as thermal or non-thermal effects. A wide frequency band was tested, (0.1-2.9) GHz, by applying continuous wave stimuli. Significant field strength components were provided and characterized, by using a GTEM cell and adequate expo-dosimetric instruments. The heating rates of the suspensions were measured. Because the recorded values were very low, non-thermal expression of energetic conversion was further investigated by scanning-transmission electron microscopy methods, by various spectroscopic means and by electrical conductivity determinations. Clear non-thermal effects were revealed, which need further research.

This paper approaches the problem of contributing to single-phase faults of photovoltaic power plants, connected in a medium voltage electrical network, having mixed neutral grounding. The introduction of the photovoltaic power plants into a distribution network may leads to rise many technical problems, therefore, behaviour of such energy sources, under various disturbances, must be studied and known to the distribution grid operators. In this paper, using the ATP program, a medium voltage grid was modelled in the aim to analyse the contribution of photovoltaic power plants to the single line-to-ground faults and to the single-phased short-circuit.

EMC is a permanent challenge for many items associated with radio communications. Inside this large frame work, human exposure issue should be always considered. For that, it is worth of knowing the impact on the short and on the long term of electromagnetic field irradiation over biological tissues of human body. The present paper is a study over the estimation of specific absorption rate (SAR) on a developed 3D model of the human body in case of exposure to electromagnetic fields generated by mobile communications in some areas (indoor and outdoor) with specific instrumentation (Spectran HF-60105 V4 spectrum analyzer with HyperLOG 60100 antenna). The SAR values was determined by simulation using the CST MW Studio® software and the values were compared with limits values for SAR imposed by ICNIRP (1998) restriction limits and European Directive 2004/40/CE standards, adopted also in Romania by HG number 1136 from 30 august 2006. Additionally, the RSAR, while dealing with simultaneous exposure to different frequency fields should be considered.

When it comes to vehicles and traffic, the first priority is the safety of the driver and that of pedestrians. With the evolution of technology, the speed of the cars and the traffic increased. This means that there is a need to predict dangers which can arise while someone is driving. Another direction is to develop autonomous cars that can face the present and the future traffic conditions in order to increase the safety and the fluency on the roads. So, in the present paper it is presented a method of determining the distance to a car that drives in front of our own car. The relative speed is also possible to be determined with respect to it. The image, taken with a front camera, is classified using a Convolutional Neural Network, namely YOLO [1] (You Only Look Once) and after the searched object is detected, the distance is estimated counting the number of pixels in a bounding box which fits the detected object. The distance is further corrected by using Canny edge detection and HSV color space. Experimental data are presented in the paper and the results are commented for conclusions.
