Online platform for conducting responsible research and innovations 负责任的科研创新网络平台

This paper deals with the implementation of an online platform for Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), which provides anticipatory and deliberative tools to address societal expectations with regard to resrarch and innovation and mobilises information technology tools for inclusive, responsive and sustainable research. In particular, we have developed a Forum, which is a Web-based application and service for stakeholders (members of the RRI community) to deliberate and discuss about RRI. Different interaction modalities are supported by the Forum, such as: `Caucus Process', Suggestion Board, Partnership Initiative, etc. A special attention is devoted to the Citizen Jury and Tacit Knowledge modules that represent innovative features of our Forum. The outcomes show that our online Forum represents an effective solution to address RRI issues by adopting e-Government and knowledge management approaches. This work was carried out as part of EU FP7 Responsibility project.

Multi-level K-means text clustering technique for topic identification for competitor intelligence 竞争对手情报主题识别的多层次k均值文本聚类技术

Proliferation of web as an easily accessible information resource has led many corporations to gather competitor intelligence from the internet. While collection of such information is easy from internet, the collation and structuring of them for perusal of business decision makers, is a real trouble. Text clustering based topic identification techniques are expected to be very useful for such application. Using appropriate clustering technologies, the competitor intelligence corpus, gathered from the web, can be divided into topical groups and henceforth the analysis of this information becomes comparatively easier for the managers. This paper presents a study on the effectiveness of standard K-means text clustering algorithm applied at multiple levels, in a top-down, divide-and-conquer fashion, on competitor intelligence corpus, created from publicly available sources on the web, such as news, blogs, research papers etc. The paper also demonstrates the capability of Multi-level K-means (ML-KM) clustering technique to determine the optimal number of clusters as part of clustering process. The cluster validity metric used to determine cluster quality has also been explained along with other user-controlled configuration parameters. It is empirically found that ML-KM technique also addresses one problem of stand-alone standard K-means (S-KM), which is its bias towards convex, spherical clusters, resulting in bigger clusters subsuming smaller ones. This specific advantage of ML-KM over stand-alone S-KM to detect smaller clusters, makes it more suitable for clustering competitor intelligence related text corpus where niche, smaller clusters can actually lead to important findings. The experimental results are presented for both ML-KM and stand-alone S-KM clustering techniques based on competitor intelligence corpus as well as the standard Reuters corpus.

SOA Maturity Models as guidance to select service identification methods: A research agenda 作为选择服务识别方法的指南的SOA成熟度模型:一个研究议程

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is an architectural style for applications that are built by composing loosely coupled, interoperable services. Service identification is one of the earliest and most significant activities for successful implementation of SOA in the enterprise. Service identification aims at deriving high-quality services that satisfy the desired service design principles. However, service identification still remains a challenge for organizations due to the lack of unified, comprehensive, and systematic methods. Although, there do exist many Service Identification Methods (SIMs), the practitioners usually cannot easily select the most appropriate one, due to the heterogeneity of the existing SIMs. This research study focuses on investigating to what extent Welke's SOA Maturity Model (SOAMM) would help and influence the selection of appropriate SIM and improve its applicability. In the meanwhile, the work explores how Method Engineering (ME) approaches and techniques impact the development of SIMs and improve the applicability of these methods. The study aims at designing a systematic and truly service-oriented situational SIM in SOA for identifying high-quality services in real-life system. In this paper, we present the research agenda for adopting Welke's SOAMM as guidance to select SIMs.

Energy consumption is one of the main limiting factors for the development and deployment of large scale distributed systems (datacenters, Clouds, networks). A lot of academic and industrial researches propose several hardware and software based approaches in order to reduce energy consumption and to exhibit energy proportional and energy efficient capabilities. But for reaching such improvements a full vision of environmental impact of ICT must be taken into account: from material extraction, transport to design, usage and end of life. This talk will explore some challenges in dealing with ICT life cycle and will illustrate that with several scenario and examples.

Re-envisioning the role of benefits realisation in a world dominated by robots 重新设想在机器人主导的世界中实现利益的作用

In recent years there has been a great deal of academic and practitioner interest in the role of `benefits realisation management' [BRM] approaches, as a means of proactively leveraging value from IT investments. However, as automated technologies are increasingly being introduced on the basis that they deliver more cost-efficient solutions than their human counterparts, important questions needs to be asked about how value should be defined in a world that is increasingly dominated by robots. Consequently, the aim of this work-in-progress paper is to explore, using the literature, how automated systems continue to replace the human agent, in a growing number of organisational contexts, before looking at how tools such as benefits realisation, may need to be modified to ensure that there is an appropriate balance between the social and the technical in the planning of future IS/IT investments. In so doing, this essay seeks to develop a provisional research agenda, which will hopefully help to shape future contributions to the domains of benefits realisation, sociotechnical approaches and IT evaluation.

Designing multidimensional cubes from warehoused data and linked open data 从存储数据和链接的开放数据设计多维数据集

A Data Warehouse (DW) is widely used as a consistent and integrated data repository in Business Intelligence systems. Under today's dynamic and competitive business context, warehoused data alone no longer provide enough information for decision-making processes. Business analyses should be enhanced by including Linked Open Data (LOD) to offer multiple perspectives to decision-makers. This paper provides a new multidimensional model, named Unified Cube, which offers a generic representation for both warehoused data and LOD at the conceptual level. A two-stage process is proposed to build a Unified Cube according to decision-makers' needs. As a first step, schemas published with specific modeling languages are transformed into a common conceptual representation. The second step is to associate together related data to form a Unified Cube containing all useful information about an analysis subject. A high-level declarative language is provided to enable nonexpert users to define the relevance between data according to their analysis needs. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed concepts, we show how analyses over data from different sources can be carried out through a Unified Cube.

Using model views to assist with model conformance and extension 使用模型视图来协助模型一致性和扩展

Most literature in conceptual modelling focuses on the development of models. However, models, once created, must be used, which requires that the model is as usable as possible. Often, usage scenarios for a model are only vaguely clear at model creation time, so model usability should be considered as a relevant problem, especially in relation to conformance (creating instance models that conform to a base type model) and extension (creating extended models that build on a base one). In this paper, we propose a particular mechanism, model views, that allow model users to customise, to certain extent, what a model looks like, and thus adapt it to their usage scenario. Model views are fully described, and two case studies regarding very different situations are reported as a form of validation. The results obtained show that model views significantly add flexibility and customisation control during model conformance and extension efforts.

Often, usage scenarios for a model are only vaguely clear at model creation time, so model usability should be considered as a relevant problem, especially in relation to conformance (creating instance models that conform to a base type model) and extension (creating extended models that build on a base one). In this paper, we propose a particular mechanism, model views, that allow model users to customise, to certain extent, what a model looks like, and thus adapt it to their usage scenario. Model views are fully described, and two case studies regarding very different situations are reported as a form of validation. More transparency in testing results: Towards an open collective knowledge base 提高测试结果的透明度:建立开放的集体知识库

We are currently witnessing an explosion of advances in database technology, that cover all phases of database application design: non-functional requirements, conceptual modeling, logical modeling, deployment, physical design and exploitation. Researchers and engineers cooperate to integrate these advances in the database design. Their proposed solutions have to be confronted with similar studies whose results have been either published in scientific papers or on specific websites such as that of TPC (the Transaction Processing Council). Recently, several researchers have highlighted difficulties in reproducing the results of existing studies. As a consequence, certain research communities require that the environment and the results of the testing activities have to be published in order to facilitate their reproduction, to publish their simulator environments, in order to allow evaluators to perform by their own the experiments. This is quite similar to the Volkswagen fake pollution controls scandal. In this paper, we firstly, advocate the transparency of testing in the database field. Secondly, we propose the use of a repository dedicated to store testing environment and results. The environment includes used data sets, deployment platform, non-functional requirements, used algorithms, hypotheses, etc. and the results completed with their measurement units.

UIPLML: Pattern-based engineering of user interfaces of multi-platform systems UIPLML:基于模式的多平台系统用户界面工程

Information systems become more accessible as a service offered to anybody, anywhere, at any time, via almost any device and computing platform. The continuous growth and the heterogeneity of these devices induce diverse user experiences depending on the device and challenge designers to creating methods and tools for engineering usable, yet accessible, information systems. Instead of repeating a similar development life cycle, design patterns concentrate design solutions with embedded usability and accessibility. Once a pattern is selected, the developer is responsible for adequately program the pattern code, which is a tedious and error-prone task. In order to address these challenges, this paper presents UIPLML (User Interface Pattern Language Markup Language), a XML-compliant markup language for defining user interface patterns for multiple contexts of use, e.g., for different users carrying out a task on different devices in different environments. A meta-model with new expressiveness enables multi-facet pattern matching. To validate it, four UIPLML pattern databases have been created: a base of 237 entries for multi-platform systems, a base of 42 entries for context-aware interfaces, a base of 10 entries for culturally-aware interfaces, and a base of 52 entries for accessibility. The master/detail pattern is in particular supported by a software for generative pattern-based approach where application parameters and contextual data govern automated user interface XML creation which, in turns, generates code for multi-platform information systems.

Document-oriented data warehouses: Models and extended cuboids, extended cuboids in oriented document 面向文档的数据仓库:模型和扩展长方体,面向文档中的扩展长方体

Within the Big Data trend, there is an increasing interest in Not-only-SQL systems (NoSQL). These systems are promising candidates for implementing data warehouses particularly due to the data structuration/storage possibilities they offer. In this paper, we investigate data warehouse instantiation using a document-oriented system (a special class of NoSQL systems). On the one hand, we analyze several issues including modeling, querying, loading data and OLAP cuboids. We compare document-oriented models (with and without normalization) to analogous relational database models. On the other hand, we suggest improvements in order to benefit from document-oriented features. We focus particularly on extended versions of OLAP cuboids that exploit nesting and arrays. They are shown to work better on workloads with drill-down queries. Research in this direction is new. As existing work focuses on feasibility issues, document-specific implementation features, modeling and cross-model comparison.
