Detection of glucose using Raman spectroscopy 用拉曼光谱法检测葡萄糖

This study investigates the application of Raman spectroscopy and partial least squares for the determination of glucose concentration in mixtures containing lactic acid and urea in water. The Raman spectrometer consisted of a sequence of beam conditioning, sample, and post-sample beam conditioning stages, followed by the monochrometer and CCD detector. The excitation source was a 514.3 nm Argon laser delivering 10 mW of power to the sample. The standard deviation of the residuals for a cross validation of the entire data set was 22.3 mg/dl. This work is part of a continuing effort in the development of technology toward noninvasive glucose sensing for diabetics.<>

Interactive identification of marker position on 3D CT-based model 基于三维ct模型的标记位置交互识别

Correct localization of implanted markers represents a crucial step in robot-assisted surgery for the registration of CT-based computer models and the real world. While in the real world we can organize a suitable precise tactile searching by the robot arm, in the virtual image we can not rely only on the operator's judgement and skill. This paper describes our interactive approach to the correct localization of registration points on 3D computer images.<>

An instrumentation system for the remote monitoring of changes in functional health status of the elderly at home 一种用于远程监测居家老年人功能健康状况变化的仪器系统

There is a rapidly developing interest in the creative use of information, instrumentation and communications technology for the nonconstrained monitoring of physiological and health variables at home. Evidence for this interest are major research programs in Europe, such as the Technology Initiative for Disabled and Elderly People (TIDE), and the European Prototype for Integrated Care (EPIC), initiated under the general umbrella of the Advanced Informatics in Medicine (AIM) program which has as a major theme the application of Telematics Systems in Health Care. Here, the authors discuss the design and implementation of instrumentation modules for monitoring the interaction between the elderly participant and his or her living environment to assess changes in functional health status. The objectives of the first data collection phase are to develop individualised templates of functional health status and to use knowledge based systems to identify changes which may indicate a deterioration of health and a reduced capacity for coping with the demands of day to day living. This is a major interdisciplinary study involving biomedical design engineers, computer scientists (medical AI) and community medicine specialists. Preliminary data are presented on the results of a small pilot project and a major field trial involving over 75 households.<>

Regularization networks for glucose system identification 葡萄糖系统识别的正则化网络

A framework for non-linear identification of glucose kinetics using neural networks is presented. The framework combines: recursive input-output system representation (Non-linear AutoRegressive model with eXogenous inputs (NARX)); approximation method derived from regularization theory and based on radial basis function neural networks; and validation methods for non-linear systems. System identification was performed using: (1) simulated data from a mathematical model of glucose kinetics in a diabetic state with exogenously infused soluble insulin and monomeric insulin analogues and (2) measured subcutaneous tissue glucose time-series from healthy subjects, respectively.

Tomographic construction of a 2D wavelet transform: continuous and discrete case 二维小波变换的层析构造:连续和离散情况

The authors study some relations between the wavelet transform and image reconstruction from projections. They show how 1D wavelets may be included in the tomographic reconstruction process, in order to provide a 2D wavelet transform of the image. First, the problem is analysed using a continuous formulation. An appropriate 1D filtering may be done on the sinogram prior to reconstruction in order to recover any 2D continuous wavelet transform. Then the discrete wavelet scheme is considered. For illustration, results on a X-ray CT scan medical image are presented.<>

Impedance pneumography for diaphragm pacing 隔膜起搏阻抗气相造影术

A respiratory monitor was tested as a safety device for diaphragm pacing. This monitor used impedance measurements between stimulating epimysial electrodes placed on the diaphragm muscle and anodes placed subcutaneously on the thorax. Impedance measurements were assessed for indications of geometric changes in the thorax and detection of airway obstruction. The authors determined that impedance pneumography is a useful safety feature that could be added to an epimysial electrode diaphragm pacer.<>

Calibration system for a multichannel squid magnetometer 多通道鱿鱼磁强计校正系统

In biomagnetic measurements, a SQUID magnetometer must be calibrated correctly so that the magnetic source can be analyzed accurately. The authors developed a calibration system for a multichannel SQUID magnetometer. The system is composed of a coil unit including 24 circular coils, and a current control unit. By using this system the authors calibrated a 64-channel SQUID system. The reliability of the calibrated values could be evaluated using target coils.<>

Non-invasive estimation of arm arterial compliance 臂动脉顺应性的无创评估

Impulsive body accelerations in the vertical direction were produced in human volunteers by means of an acceleration table, and the consequent blood volume changes at the finger measured through a photoplethysmograph. The obtained results were analyzed with a distributed parameter model of arterial hemodynamics, previously developed by the authors. Best fitting between model predictions and experimental results was achieved by modifying a few physical and geometrical parameters of the model. Results of the minimization procedure demonstrate that brachial arterial compliance can be estimated with sufficient accuracy with this technique. In perspective, the proposed method may help clinicians in non-invasive diagnoses of the state of the arterial wall.<>

Cardiac experts often make critical diagnoses utilizing information from the standard 12-lead ECG rather than Holter recordings. The development of a Neural Network (NN) system to derive the 12-lead ECG from modified VCG leads recorded using Holter recordings is explored here. The requirements (data acquisition, hardware, software, etc.) of such a system are addressed. A NN to derive the 12-lead ECG with the 3-lead modified VCG as its input is designed.

The analysis of variability in the EEG signal is a relatively new field of investigation. This is mainly due to the objective difficulty to develop quantitative methods of analysis. Autoregressive modeling of the EEG signal is proposed to quantify its variability. Model coefficients were computed from adjacent epochs and their temporal behavior was analyzed: background activity produced only very slow temporal changes, while a variability in the EEG provoked sharp changes in the AR sequences. To quantify the variability with a numerical value (Difference Measure, DM), the AR sequences were processed by means of a segmentation algorithm. DMs were derived for all EEG leads and analyzed under visual inspection. Preliminary results show that this approach could be of some help in the study of temporal and spatial characteristics of interictal epileptiform discharges.
