Drawing from the New Mobility Paradigm, tourist cities embody more complexity than mere dichotomies of ‘hosts’ versus ‘guests.’ They are the result of multiple users of urban space overlapping in a highly mobile and hyper-nomadic society. By combining mobile positioning-based data, various official surveys, and the interpolation of census data, this article measures the relative weight of the different users of the city of Barcelona in 2019 and their distribution both temporally and spatially. Results indicate that the absolute value of different types of visitors is much higher than official data suggest, but their relative value is conditioned by the high volume of other forms of mobility. The tension between users generates very diverse spatial responses, ranging from coexistence to exclusion.

This research examines the impact of COVID-19 on Spanish international tourism, focusing on the routes of access to the country. Using data from October 2015 to March 2024, a counterfactual analysis was conducted to calculate the severity of the impact on Foreign Tourism Access to Spain by Air Transport, Road, Railway, and Maritime Transport. Benchmark series were calculated using the SARIMA model and validated with Machine Learning methods. Results show significant increases in Air and Road access post-pandemic, with even larger increases in Railway and Maritime routes, indicating early recovery trends since May 2023. These findings highlight the need for adaptive marketing strategies to align with new travel preferences for sustainable and health-conscious travel options.

This study aimed to conduct a systematic literature review using the standard PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses) as integrative review, and deductive content analysis to unravel the components and resulting areas of interest from Memorable Gastro-Tourism Experiences, as well as theories, and methodologies used. The review and synthesis of 60 quantitative, qualitative, and mixed studies conducted between 2015 and 2024 revealed that the study of Memorable Gastro-Tourism Experiences is nascent but active. The primary focus of research lies within aspects such as sensory and authentic experiences, togetherness, social interaction and local culture, esthetics and servicescape, cognitive engagement, gastronomic novelty and curiosity, hedonism and meaningfulness, and hospitable service experiences, mainly. Behavioral intentions emerged as the most studied consequence, but emerging components and effects were also identified. SEM and deductive content analysis methods were primarily used. This revealed high heterogeneity and lack of consensus, indicative of the phenomenon's early yet active research state. The findings propose a conceptual framework of Memorable Gastro-Tourism Experiences as theoretical contributions. Practical implications and future research directions were proposed as well.

One third of food produced for humans is wasted between production and consumption and a considerable amount of food waste occurs in the hospitality sector related to plate waste. A specific focus is laid on the food behaviour of the next generation of tourists, as this group is crucial in contributing to long-term sustainability. Through combining two studies, a survey (N. 170 respondents) plus a field experiment (N. 2.264 units of observation), this research deepens the understanding on attitudes and behavioural intentions of young tourists toward plate waste, alongside their actual plate waste minimising behaviour when exposed to different persuasive interventions. This study proposes operational measures to trigger the involvement of the next generation of tourists in plate waste minimization and to educate young consumers toward zero plate waste.

This article offers an overview of the literature and state of knowledge on the politics of tourism. While the politics of tourism remains an under studied topic in tourism academia, here we argue political analyses are vital for advancing our understanding of the deep-rooted dynamics of tourism and how we respond to arising crises.
We analyze the interface between tourism and politics, briefly outline key contemporary issues and introduce some new vistas for future inquiries. The foundation of the politics of tourism is a search for the good life and critical questions arise including democratic participation, neoliberalizing forces and possibility of diverse worldviews challenging neoliberal domination. This article serves as an introduction to a curated collection.

This exploratory study gathers perspectives of parents and children with disabilities following their attendance at ‘Try Before You Fly’, in a regional UK based airport. Many children with disabilities are unable to manage in unfamiliar settings such as an airport, and their parents may avoid exposure to such settings to reduce stress and anxiety and so avoid air travel. Try Before You Fly enabled disabled children and their families to practice all the steps of the airport experience, such as check-in, security departure lounge and access to a grounded aircraft, using an approach underpinned by behaviour analytic practices. Six months after the event, 21 parents and five children completed a questionnaire about the event. Results suggest that all respondents believed that the event increased their confidence levels about booking a holiday via air travel and that it should be an initiative offered at more airports.
《Try Before You Fly》让残疾儿童和他们的家人能够使用行为分析实践为基础的方法,练习机场体验的所有步骤,比如办理登机手续、安检候机室和进入停飞的飞机。事件发生6个月后,21名家长和5名孩子完成了一份关于事件的调查问卷。调查结果显示,所有受访者都认为,该活动提高了他们通过航空旅行预订假期的信心,并且应该在更多的机场推出这一举措。

Dark rides embody a noteworthy phenomenon in theme park destinations and beyond, serving as a textbook example of structured experiences. They therefore offer valuable insights for knowledge development on structured experiences in the broader realm of tourism and leisure experiences. Despite various conceptualizations of the dark ride experience, the visitor's perspective has been largely overseen. Through qualitative interviews we explored 16 distinct dark rides, unveiling key constituent components of their experience and identifying contributing factors. Results indicate that dark rides are primarily appreciated for their ability to generate here-and-now experiences, characterized by imagery, imagery-based states, and emotions. However, visitors may inadvertently shift their focus to internal thoughts and cognitions based on motivation, opportunity, and ability-related switch factors, risking mental disengagement.

Travel behavior changes over the temporal dimensions age, period, and cohort. However, longitudinal studies that simultaneously analyze and separate these temporal effects are missing. This study aims to disentangle the temporal changes in travel behavior (participation, frequency, expenses) and explain these changes through different theoretical lenses. Our analysis builds on large-scale representative secondary data from a repeated cross-sectional survey in Germany on the leisure travel behavior between 1983 and 2018 (N = 198,000) and uses generalized additive regression. Age and period are main drivers for changes in travel participation, cohort and age main drivers for changes in travel frequency over time. Relative travel expenses do not substantially change over time. Understanding temporal changes in travel behavior can support long-term planning in tourism.
