The article discusses the specifi cs of Alexey Remizov’s works that correspond to the literary and journalistic form of «In Memoriam» genre. These texts differ drastically, both in form and in content, from the traditional funeral genres, such as an obituary or a graveside oration. The Appendix to the article contains the «memorable word» by Remizov, dedicated to Abram Yu. Dobry, a Parisian fi nancier, philanthropist and connoisseur of Russian culture. Since the time of its fi rst publication in 1939, this text has been out of reach of the academic community.

The article raises the problem of studying Pushkin’s private life in relation to the mental and behavioral stereotypes of his era. It seems that this is the only way for us to responsibly assess the actions and judgments of a historical person. With this idea in mind, the article examines Pushkin’s relationships with women, which were defi ned both by the etiquette norms and his personality. General problems are revealed through the analysis of specifi c biographical stories.

This publication introduces the academic community to the new data from the archives of the Merezhkovskys and D. V. Filosofov, which are stored in the Amherst Center for Russian Culture (Massachusetts, USA). It presents a selection of letters by Filosofov (1906) and N. A. Berdiaev (1907) that provide new details concerning the relationship between the two. Excerpts from the «diaries» of T. N. Gippius that supplement the «Berdiaev» narrative are published as an appendix.

In 1929 and 1932, Valle-Inclán published two versions of a fragment from his novel Advantage of Swords. A Russian character is at the center of the plot: the narrative revolves around him, his appearance and personality are described in detail, he talks a lots and delivers speeches, while his name goes through a change. He is called Petr Kropotkin in the fi rst version and Mikhail Bakunin in the second one. The writer wanted to describe a Russian revolutionary, an anarchist, well-known in Spain — and for him it hardly mattered which one he would take: both persons were equally suitable for the role.

In his sermons, Kirill of Turov makes ample use of quotes, allusions and reminiscences. As a rule, he appeals to hymnography, although his Word for Thomas Sunday relates to Gregory of Nazianzus’s sermon for the same holiday. In this text, Kirill of Turov relies on a reader who had just heard the sermon, recited, in compliance with the regulations, on that very day. Thus, without this specifi c background, one would be hard put to understand the Word for Thomas Sunday. The comparison of the two texts offered in the article highlights additional meanings in this work by Kirill of Turov.

The article outlines the insuffi ciently studied issue «Vyacheslav Ivanov and Jakob Böhme». The goal of the research is to defi ne the sources that infl uenced Vyach. Ivanov’s theory of religious realistic symbolism. The philosophy of Vyach. Ivanov’s art is analyzed, and the contingencies between his theory and the mystic learning of Böhme and his followers concerning symbolic correspondences are highlighted. It is shown that, postulating his principles of religious symbolism, Ivanov relied on Böhme’s principles of symbolic nature of reality, that were connected to the traditions of the Medieval Christian Neoplatonism.

The article draws attention to the insuffi ciently studied genre of inscription of the 18th century. Important studies have been devoted to the small poetic forms of the epigram and the epitaph of the period, but the inscription, because of the vagueness of the exact genre defi nition, has not yet received due attention. The article offers a general preliminary outline of the data concerning this genre in the 18th century, and the analysis of certain inscriptions in the works by Derzhavin.

Meanwhile, the search for the typological parallels in the epistolary and literary context of the era is instrumental for outlining the connections between the novelist’s letters and a whole range of artistic traditions of salon correspondence, romantic mystifi cation and familiar letter as a literary genre.
