The analysis of the playing card terms paroles and paroles-pe clarifies why the secret of the three sure cards made Chaplitsky win back his loss, but proved fatal to Hermann. Besides, the report comments on the epigraph to the third chapter of Pushkin’s novella, as well as on the literary sources of the late Countess’s visit to the protagonist; it is specified which particular pistol Hermann used to threaten her, and what gerboviielenty are.

The article deals with an unexplored episode in the life and work of I. A. Goncharov, the period of his employment as an editor-in-chief in the governmental newspaper Severnaya Pochta (1862– 1863). An attempt of attributing two anonymous articles to the writer is made for the fi rst time.

G. Obatnin
Vyacheslav Ivanov’s Easter trip to Palestine in 1900 is considered in the article as a significant biographical fact, which was repeatedly reflected in his works. In the winter and spring of 1915, open and hidden memories of the trip became a source of inspiration for the poet. In addition to analyzing this biographical context, the article corrects the errors that have emerged in the research literature due to the false dating of the poem «The Dolphins».

The article deals with the main formation sources of the allegorical image of the wolf-nihilist Mark Volokhov in the novel "The Precipice" by I. A. Goncharov. Citing the correspondence between L. N. Maykov and his university comrades, we can assume that, apart from the mythopoetic, literary-philosophical and typological reasons, Mark can be likened to a predator due to certain biographical prerequisites.

The article examines the «Rostand layer» in the fictional and ego-documentary works of M. I. Tsvetaeva. Rostand’s work became one of the main sources that informed Tsvetaeva’s concept of Romanticism, which she perceived as a facet of her own soul, rather than as a literary phenomenon. Analyzing the motives, images, plot twists of Rostand, Tsvetaeva shows that it was a comprehensive influence that affected her throughout her life and was not limited to a purely «literary» sphere.

Georgii Vladimirovich Kunitsyn
This article offers an interpretation of one of the most famous poems in the book Sestra Moia — Zhizn. The goal is to reconstruct the poet’s actual perception of his epoch through the prism of the most important symbolic marker of time, holidays. The proposed approach, which hasn’t been previously applied to Pasternak’s lyrics, leads to a more comprehensive picture of how the main historical event of the era was rationalized on the mythological level of his perception of reality.
