Although the relationship between innovative activities and company's performance has been well studied, there are few studies to explore the internal and external factors simultaneously, especially in the Chinese context. In this research, an open innovation perspective is adopted to explore the relationships among external co-production, internal innovation orientation, business relationships and service innovation performance in the Chinese context. Through an empirical survey of 161 samples in South China, the results indicate the following: (1) internal innovation orientation can promote external co-production; (2) external co-production is an important facilitating factor of company's service innovation performance, but internal orientation has no significant effect on it and (3) business relationships with partners moderate the relations between co-production and innovation orientation. The finding enriches the theory of empirical research in service innovation in the Chinese context.

Based on network theory and surveys of 243 service providing enterprises in South China, this study investigates the effects of relational embeddedness and network competence on service innovation performance respectively. The mechanisms by which network competence mediates the relationship between relational embeddedness and service innovation were also discussed. Results reveal that both relational embeddedness and network competence are positively related to service innovation performance; network competence has a fully mediating effect on the relationship between relational embeddedness and service innovation performance. This paper contributes to the service innovation literature by extending theories regarding relational embeddedness and network competence to the research field of service innovation.

Individual customer demands, price pressure and the probability to deliver at the required date and time are important factors for small and medium sized enterprises (SME). These companies, often in the branch of single-part or small-series production, want to be the supplier for larger companies. Decision makers in large companies have to investigate potential suppliers due to these mostly interrelated criteria. Considering different variants of manufacturing a product and the premature investigation of resources and there capacities make it possible to increase known factors during the proposal preparation. Therefore, this paper is introducing a conceptual framework for the evaluation of different process variants to manufacture a product. In this framework, we are using genetic algorithms to optimise and evaluate process variants including the necessary resources and their capacitive use in an evaluated period.

Traffic jam is a big problem, which influences people's normal travel, and causes environmental pollution. Green traffic can solve traffic problem effectively. By analysing the factors that affect traffic jams, the article builds cause-and-effect relation diagram and then builds stock-flow diagram. Then taking Shenzhen city as an example, make a simulation of the urban green traffic model system. The result shows that the number of private cars ownership and the increase of vehicle exhaust stock are important driving factors of traffic congestion and environmental pollution. By influencing the total of the private cars ownership, auto purchase limit policy, restrictions and congestion pricing policy control motor vehicle trips, reduce vehicle emissions, and balance automobile exhaust gas pollution problem. At the same time, adopt new energy vehicle subsidy policy to advocate the residents to buy new energy vehicles and improve public transport infrastructure to advocate people to take public traffic vehicle.

Although Social Network Services (SNSs) continuance usage has recently emerged as an important issue in information systems adaption, the research into older adults' continuance intention towards SNS is still very low, and the acceptance-discontinuance anomaly phenomenon (i.e. users discontinue using e-learning after initially accepting it) is a common occurrence. This study joins the perceived risk and perceived enjoyment to our prior research model which integrated the Expectation-Confirmation Model (ECM), the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) to hypothesise a theoretical model to explain and predict the older adults' intentions to continue using SNSs. The hypothesised model is validated empirically using a sample collected from 320 older adults who had prior experience with SNSs and was tested against the proposed research model using structure equation modelling. The results demonstrate that satisfaction has the most significant effect on older adults' continuance intention, followed by perceived usefulness, perceived risk, subject norm and perceived behavioural control. The results of these findings for SNSs practitioners are discussed at the end of this work.

In queueing system, when the server is idle, one of control policy for determining the timing of server activated is when a fixed number N of customers accumulates for service in the system. However, on some practical situations such as watching video file online, the threshold value N may vary depending on different situations. For such situation, this paper studies a random N-policy Geo/G/1 queue, where N is determined as each new cycle begins. We derive some system characteristics, such as system size, idle period, busy period and sojourn time, by using the probability generating function and supplementary variable technique. We also prove that the system size of a continuous-time random N-policy M/G/1 queue can be approximated by the presented discrete-time model.

Deceptive reviews of products can greatly swing the customer's purchasing decisions. We propose a new method to decrease the influence of deceptive reviews on industrial products by improving the precision of detecting these reviews. The method recognises the deceptive reviews based on the posters' behaviours and the reviews' content. It firstly builds a recognition model of the 'water army' according to the review's quantity, frequency and length, and then builds the content model with five reviews' content features, i.e. the length, the degree of professionalism, the emotional density, the format and the emotional imbalance, and finally detects the deceptive reviews of industrial products by combining an unsupervised clustering algorithm based on F statistics and a feature degree. Our method achieves better results than existing ones according to tests on industrial products of automobiles, mobile phones and computers. Its precision is better than that of identification methods based only on content feature clustering.

Agent technology has been widely applied in the manufacturing process due to its flexibility, autonomy, and scalability. In this paper, the learning agent is proposed to solve a dynamic parallel machine scheduling problem which considers random breakdowns. The duty of the agent, which is based on the Q-learning algorithm, is to dynamically assign arriving jobs to idle machines according to the current state of its environment. A state-action table involving machine breakdowns is constructed to define the state of the agent's environment. Three rules, including SPT (Shortest Processing Time), EDD (Earliest Due Date) and FCFS (First Come First Served), are used as actions of the agent, and the e-greedy policy is adopted by the agent to select an action. In the simulation experiment, two different objectives, including minimising the maximum lateness and minimising the percentage of tardy jobs, are utilised to validate the ability of the learning agent. The results demonstrate that the proposed agent is suitable for the complex parallel machine environment.

In service industry, various decisions need to be made to design these service systems or improve their performances. In the face of complex systems and many choices, simulation is used to estimate the performance measures of each alternative when analytical expression is too complex or even unavailable. As multiple replications are required for each design, there is a need to efficiently allocate the simulation budget. The Optimal Computing Budget Allocation (OCBA) is an approach that intelligently allocates simulation budget for maximising the desired selection quality in finding the best alternative(s) and has demonstrated its ability in significantly enhancing simulation efficiency. In this paper, we present three latest developments on OCBA for the optimal subset selection, constrained optimisation, and multiobjective optimisation problems. The models, the corresponding asymptotically optimal allocation rules, are provided together with numerical results showing their efficiency. The proposed rules are also further discussed from the large deviations perspective.

The market of logistic operators in the segment of parcel delivery in Brazil has grown considerably in the last few years. This growth is caused mainly by e-commerce transactions. Companies that excel in this business offer services that enable traceability of objects and near real-time availability of information to customers. This research aims to study the current process for receiving and handling mail pouches at the Brazilian Postal Service (ECT), with the objective of verifying the technical viability using RFID – Radio Frequency Identification technology. Discrete simulation analysis is used for this purpose. It was found that ECT currently does not offer full traceability of its products. The applicability of RFID technology is determined. Based on the results of the simulations, advantages of the use of RFID tags are discussed.
