The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of Sense of Coherence scale (SOC-13) in schoolchildren. This is a cross-sectional study that included eight to fourteen years-old schoolchildren. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for SOC-13 measurement presented questionable results (0.63) and the Intra-Class Correlation Coefficient of 0.70 was statistically significant between different time points (p<0.01). Regarding the construct validity, significant values were observed between the SOC-13 components scores and the overall scale score. In the Confirmatory Factorial Analysis, the latent variable was related, through the standard factorial loads, to the other items of the questionnaire. We can conclude that the Brazilian version of SOC-13 showed adequate psychometric properties in a school-age population.

Introduction: Social disability is present in more than 50% of patients with schizophrenia after clinical remission. How emotional processing differs between patients with high and low social functioning has not been studied so far. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted, with 67 outpatients. The Social Functioning Scale and the Emotional Intelligence Test were used. Results: Statistically significant differences were found in Emotional Facilitation (p=0.007; d=0.74), in Emotional Management (p=0.003; d=0.83) and in all dimensions of social functioning, with a difference of up to 45.43 points between the groups. Conclusions: The results contribute to the understanding of the role played by emotional facilitation and regulation in social functioning.

This study aimed to synthesize the scientific publication on retirement between 1991 and 2015. Analysis were done using the software Iramuteq to systematize papers extracted from Scopus database that included the word retirement (N = 18,362). Results have shown that North American and European countries are among the most productive. Health and economics are the most researched fields and are interconnected by a common interest in public policy. Relevant topics, such as retirement education, were absent from the main results. It is discussed that the number of publications is associated with national investment in research and development and has little relationship with the proportion of elderly individuals. A broader and interdisciplinary research agenda is recommended.

The study evaluated possible correlations between behavioral profiles, perceptions of quality of life and social support, and parenting practices adopted by 26 mothers of children and adolescents with ADHD, diagnosed by the same neurologist. The average age was 9.5 years, with participants from the 1st year of primary school to the first year of high school. Data showed that patterns characterized by negative practices are associated with a higher frequency of behavioral problems, and less indicators of adaptive functioning in caregivers. Negative parenting practices are also most often used by people with low social and family support indicators as well as quality of life. On the other hand, positive practices are associated with appropriate behaviors and improved adaptive functioning, social support and quality of life.

Our aim is to understand the role of the sunk cost effect in intimate abusive relationships. Results of a questionnaire, based on likely scenarios applied to 267 women, show that women in a relationship invest more time/days in a relationship than those who are not in a relationship. Also, an effect of scenario and of relationship status on sunk cost effect were found. Women spend more time in a non-violent scenario; also, they spend more time in a scenario of psychological violence than in one of sexual or physical violence. These results suggest that being in a relationship enhance the likelihood of committing sunk cost effect; prior investments in a relationship acquire more value for individuals in a current relationship where those efforts exist naturally.

The aim of this translational research was to investigate the effect of differential training in three types of rule-governed behavior (RGB) on compliance and transgression with pedestrian traffic rules. Participated 231 university students divided in three groups defined by the type of training (pliance, tracking and augmenting). The design consisted of pre-tests and post-tests, in addition of a training phase with direct reinforcement according to the experimental group. The results showed a general trend by compliance the rule in all phases, particularly with tracking-consequences in pre and post-training. In all experimental groups, training in RGB increase election in compliance of traffic rules. These findings allow the formulation of evidence-based guidelines for the design, implementation and evaluation of prevention road programs.
