Media is considered to be the fourth pillar of democracy. Mass media in particular has immense potential to shape the attitudes of the common masses. With the passage of time, media is becoming an all-powerful engine of social change. It plays the role a catalyst in churning the minds of the masses. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the news items brought to the knowledge of the public pay a strong role in creating a mandate. People have varied choices when it comes to their media habits. They are greatly influenced by their socio-economic background and educational exposure. This paper aims to identify the influence of demographic variables like gender, age, education and employment status on the choice of media. The paper also highlights the current and emerging media habits of people.

A study was conducted in the Moses Kotane Municipality (MKM) in the North-West Province of South Africa in order to identify and quantify factors that affect efficiency in the management of municipal solid waste generated by households and businesses. Data was collected from a combination of 171 households and businesses on 24 socioeconomic, sanitary and environmental indicators of efficiency in the management of municipal solid waste in developing municipalities. The specific objectives of study were to assess the current level of efficiency in the collection and disposal of municipal solid waste, and to construct a framework that could be used for improving the current level of efficiency in the management of municipal solid waste. Efficiency in the management of municipal solid waste was assessed by using ISO 14000 and ISO 14031 standards defined by the Canadian Standards Association. The results showed that about 67% of businesses selected for the study were inefficient in municipal solid waste management, whereas about 33% of them were efficient. Efficiency in the management of municipal solid waste was significantly influenced by 3 predictor variables (lack of adherence to municipal bylaws on waste management, inability to enforce municipal bylaws on municipal solid waste management, and wrong perception on the potential benefits of proper waste management.

Literature is a reliable source in the social history of the contemporary world. Female voices in the current society take up a deep voice and a meaningful view, as they are recognized to be the public subject. Adriana Lisboa in her novel Symphony in White discusses the abuse of children and the violence meted out by them in the society. The novel also focuses on how the girl children suffer due to the harassment within their family circle, which results in failure. The present paper analyses how oppression leads to silence which ultimately destructs life.

Civil services in India are modeled upon the pattern of Britain. Still there are some important defenses between the law relating to civil servants in England and India. The expression civil post has been subject of judicial interpretation. The safeguard to Govt. servants in India has been provided in Indian constitution under Article and fundamental rights against doctrine of pleasure enumerated in Article 3l0. The doctrine pleasure is originated from English law through East India Company when British directly took over the command of India from East India Company. The doctrine of pleasure was prerogative of king in England. Which means govt. servants used to hold office during the pleasure of king or crown and his services could be terminated at any stage with giving him opportunity unless provided in statute. The crown was not bound by the terms and conditions of employment and terms of contract. It was considered that, king can do no wrong. There were direct relation between crown and its servants and the crown was empowered to terminate the services of its servant without affording them opportunity of hearing or without pay them any retrenchment compensation, pension benefits, damages for wrongful termination or any other relief which are applicable in present era.
