Objective: to understand the knowledge and practices of conservative treatment of chronic kidney disease from the perspective of elderly women.
Method: descriptive, qualitative study, carried out in a Nephrology outpatient clinic of a public referral hospital in the city of Recife (PE), Brazil, with 21 elderly women. Data collection took place between January and July 2023, through semi-structured interviews and composed of two guiding questions: "What do you understand about chronic kidney disease?" and "What care do you take in your treatment?". The interviews were recorded and analyzed with the help of the Iramuteq® software. Manifest Content Analysis was used to analyze the data and presented through Descending Hierarchical Classification and Similarity Analysis.
Results: five thematic categories were identified: difficulties in understanding and communicating about the health condition; superficial knowledge and insecurity about the severity of kidney disease; eating practices and dietary restrictions; self-care practices and health management; and monitoring of laboratory tests.
Conclusion: the study identified that elderly women have limited knowledge about the conservative treatment of chronic kidney disease, influenced by social, economic and educational barriers. The need for accessible public policies and educational strategies to support this care is highlighted.

Objective: to map the forensic practices performed by nurses in emergency and urgent care units when assisting victims of violence.
Method: This is a scoping review conducted in compliance with the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines, following the PRISMA diagram. Documents in Portuguese, English, and Spanish were analyzed, excluding those with restricted access. Data extraction was performed by two independent researchers, with a third acting as a mediator to resolve inconsistencies.
Results: The nursing care provided to victims of violence revealed convergences among the different types of violence addressed in the 30 studies analyzed, which were published in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. The findings were systematized into three analytical categories: forensic practices performed, types of evidence collected and preserved, and challenges reported by professionals.
Conclusion: This study successfully mapped the forensic practices executed by nurses. In emergency and urgent care settings, these professionals perform crucial forensic actions, including humanized reception, detailed anamnesis, and evidence preservation. However, they face significant barriers, such as the absence of updated protocols, insufficient operational infrastructure, and a lack of specific training. Notably, even without formal forensic specialization, the practices observed demonstrate a notable alignment with the recommendations for forensic nurses.

Objective: To map scientific evidence on the (in)adequacy of the Technical Safety Index provided by the Federal Nursing Council to cover absenteeism rates in Brazilian hospital nursing.
Method: Scoping review conducted according to Joanna Briggs Institute criteria. The search was carried out in February 2024, in the sources: Virtual Health Library, Scientific Electronic Library Online, Web of Science, Scopus, MEDLINE, CAPES Periodical Portal and Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations. Cross-sectional studies conducted in the hospital environment, published between 2004 and 2024, were included. After selecting the recruited material (n=1,297), the sample (n=29) was analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Results: Of the selected studies, 86.2% indicated superiority in the percentage of absence coverage recommended by the entity. Absenteeism rates ranged from 0% to 44.7% among nurses and from 0.47% to 46% among technicians/assistants. The estimated technical safety index ranged from 8.3% to 53% for nurses and from 8.77% to 54.3% for mid-level professionals.
Final considerations: There is evidence to support that the minimum percentage of absenteeism coverage (6.7%) provided for by the regulatory entity is not sufficient, especially in the context of public hospitals.

Objective: To assess the theoretical knowledge of nursing students before and after an educational intervention, investigating the impact of the direct and indirect presence of the evaluator on the students' skills in a simulated clinical scenario of basic life support.
Method: randomized clinical trial, developed between October and December 2023, at a federal university in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Seventy-three fourth-year students were included, with five student losses during the study. The initial sample consisted of 68 students, randomized into a control group (n=33) and an experimental group (n=35). For the experimental group, the evaluator could not be seen during their access to the scenario; for the control group, the presence of the evaluator was visible. To compare the groups, the chi-square test was used for categorical variables, ANOVA for intragroup differences, and Student's t for independent samples for intergroup analysis.
Results: there was an increase in the means of the theoretical test (<0.001) between the pre-test and post-test, in both groups. In the evaluation of the students' skills in basic life support, there was no significant difference between the groups (p=0.455).
Conclusion: there was retention of theoretical knowledge and skills in both groups, regardless of the presence of the evaluator. Brazilian Clinical Trials Registry: RBR-8tvzdr7.

Objectives: To evaluate the predictive performance of the National Early Warning Score 2 - Brazilian Version, as compared to two other instruments for clinical deterioration, Intensive Care Unit admission, and in-hospital mortality of patients with suspected or confirmed sepsis admitted to an Emergency Service.
Methods: Prospective cohort study conducted from October 2021 to February 2022 with 295 adult patients in a public hospital in southern Brazil. Data collection was performed using a specific instrument developed by the researchers, with two assessments at different times: at risk classification in emergency services, and as the patient was transferred to another service for the last time. Predictive performance was assessed using the area under the curve (AUC) of the ROC, sensitivity, and specificity, comparing the scores across the evaluated outcomes and time points.
Results: For clinical deterioration, the National Early Warning Score 2 - Brazilian Version showed an AUC of 0.703, 95% CI (0.63-0.77), p<0.001, and an AUC of 0.871, 95% CI (0.82-0.91), p<0.001 in the first and second assessments, respectively. For admission to the Intensive Care Unit, all three scores remained accurate only in the second assessment, with the National Early Warning Score 2 - Brazilian Version yielding the best results, AUC: 0.830, 95% CI (0.76-0.89), p<0.001 compared to the others. For in-hospital mortality, it presented an AUC of 0.770, 95% CI (0.70-0.83), p<0.001 in the second assessment.
Conclusion: National Early Warning Score 2 - Versão Brasileira showed better predictive performance metrics compared to the other scores in the evaluated stages.

Objective: to understand the use of play in the care practices of licensed practical nurses with hospitalized children.
Method: this is a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study, based on the Symbolic Interactionism theoretical-methodological framework, developed in a pediatric inpatient unit of a university hospital located in the countryside of São Paulo. Data was collected from August to October 2023 using non-participant observation. The study included 25 licensed practical nurses working in the unit in question. Data analysis was based on reflective thematic analysis.
Results: play was primarily used to facilitate the execution of procedures. It was evident that participants did not link and integrate this resource into their care practices. Furthermore, the toy library was not understood as a space associated with licensed practical nurses. The themes "Play in care practices" and "Interactions with the hospital toy library" detail the professional practices observed.
Conclusion: the use of play in licensed practical nurses' care practices was reinforced by the symbolism that play is not feasible during pediatric hospitalization and that using the toy library is not part of its scope, which determined the limited incorporation of this resource. Furthermore, the importance of play activities was not recognized by the participants.
