Petrographic-mineralogical characteristics of newly identified tuff horizons from the K³od- nica Member (Tournaisian, Visean) in the Lublin Basin and the associated volcaniclastic conglomerates and sandstones. Prz. Geol., 71: 207–211; doi: 10.7306/2023.15 A b s t r a c t. The purpose of the study was petrographic-mineralogical analysis of volcaniclastic rocks occurring in the Lublin Basin, within the K³odnica Member (Tournaisian, Visean), in seven boreholes. Its results were linked with the results of sedimentological and sequence stratigraphy studies to reconstruct the genesis of the sediments, as well as spatial and age relationships. Fine and coarse ash tuffs were identified, whose composition indicates acidic and alkaline volcanism. Accompanying volcaniclastic conglomerates and sandstones were formed mainly in the Tournaisian, before volcanic activity began. These sediments fill incised valleys, and belong to the oldest Carboniferous sedimentary filling of the Lublin Basin.

Gypsum mineralization in hieroglyphic beds of the Jankowa anticline – preliminary research results (Outer Western Carpathians). Prz. Geol., 71: 169–173; doi: 10.7306/2023.9 A b s t r a c t. Sulfate mineralization occurs in almost all lithostratigraphic beds of the Carpathians and has been described for at least the last century. While carrying out cartographic studies near Bobowa, a new site of gypsum mineralization was discovered within the hieroglyphic beds of the Jankowa anticline. The gypsum crystals found there reach up to several centimetres in length and, so far, no similar ones have been described in the Carpathian flysch deposits. Gypsum from Jankowa occurs in the form of intergrowth and twinnings, rosettes and larkspurs, and vein fillings.
Jankowa背斜象形地层中的石膏矿化——初步研究结果(外喀尔巴阡山脉西部)。Prz。Geol。,71:169–173;doi:10.7306/2023.9 A b s t r A c t。

The impact of former mining of polymetallic ore in Czarnów on selected elements of the natural environment in the light of geochemical studies. Prz. Geol., 71: 179–183; doi: 10.7306/2023.11 A b s t r a c t. The exploitation of mineral resources can lead to the migration of potentially harmful substances into the natural environment, resulting in environmental degradation and pollution. The mining of polymetallic ores can have severe consequences due to the release of toxic elements such as arsenic (As) and heavy metals. Among the areas contaminated with toxic elements is the village of Czarnów in the Rudawy Janowickie mountains, where mining activi- ties related to copper, arsenic, and gold extraction were likely initiated in the Middle Ages. This study aimed to investigate the geochemical anomalies of arsenic and heavy metals in the soil and their uptake by plants in this region. Portable XRF spectrometry was used to perform geochemical soil analyses in the former mining sites. The results showed clear geochemical anomalies in the arsenic and heavy metal content of soils, with concentrations exceeding permissible standards. The highest concentrations of As were found in the mining dumps, exceeding 100 000 ppm. Phytogeochemical analyses were conducted on raspberry leaves ( Rubus idaeus ) to determine the content of arsenic, lead, zinc, and copper using the ICP-MS method. The findings indicated that the high levels of individual elements found may pose a risk to the environment. The study demonstrates that even abandoned mining sites can be a source of pollution, and long-term monitoring of these areas is essential to mitigate their potential environmental impact.

collected in the Rabe-Bystre area in the so-called Bystre slice in the Flysch Carpathians. The research concentrated on the mineral occurrence, parageneses and on the relationship to the tectonics. Red mineral realgar displays a pure content of arsenic sulphide. It occurs in veins and aggregates in the most frequent association with quartz. Fluid inclusions in the realgar crystals have been characterized and preliminarily measured, which is a totally new study in the Carpathian area. A new mineral – goyazite SrAl3(PO4)(PO3OH)(OH)6 – has been found as intergrowths in the realgar accumulations, and its characteristics are provided. It seems that the quartz-carbonates-bitumen paragenesis in the study region is related to the distinct tectonic mélange zones, while the ore mineralization should be referred to fault zones and fissures, and/or the mélange zones. It has an epigenetic character, and may be referred to the adjacent potential magmatic body and mineralized waters in the neighbourhood.
