The paper presents an effort to determine the territorial distribution of factories in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1938, according to branches of industry using the data based on the list of industrial enterprises published in Statistics of the Industry of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1941). The paper also gives a brief overview of the source material on industry statistics and the very definition of an industrial enterprise.

This paper will present the presence of Soviet music on the musical scene of the Kingdom of SCS/Yugoslavia. Analysis of newspaper articles and critiques, texts from music magazines, and other writings about Soviet music will demonstrate that it was present on concert stages, even though the Kingdom of Yugoslavia refrained from establishing relations with the Soviet Union until June 1940.

Based on unpublished archival materials, memoirs and relevant literature, the paper analyses the attitude of officers of the Russian General Staff towards the fall of the Provisional Government of A. F. Kerensky and the rise of the Bolsheviks, which ended with a coup d’état on October 25 (November 7), 1917. New archival data was found in the unpublished memoirs of Lieutenant General Vladimir Vladimirovich Marushevsky (1874–1952), the last Chief of the General Directorate of the General Staff of Russian Army at the time of the October Revolution, who ended his life in exile in Yugoslavia.

The paper explores two British missions in Serbia between December 1944 and June 1945, unknown until now. The purpose of both missions was to protect British interests by surveying the state of the Trepča mining complex in Kosovo and Metohija once the war operations were over. A majority stake in the Trepča lead-zinc mines was held by the British company Trepca Mines Limited owned by a mining magnate, Sir Alfred Chester Beatty. The two missions unveiled not only the importance of Trepča for the war effort of the Allies (as the need for lead ore had increased), but also the manner in which the new communist authorities in the Democratic Federative Yugoslavia treated the foreign capital in the country. The documents used in the paper are kept by the U.K. National Archives (TNA) in London.

This article tackles the Yugoslav–Cuban rivalry within the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which has marked the latter half of the 1970s and it was closely related to the developments in the relationship between the two superpowers during the last phase of détente. This was a conceptual conflict between the two dominant lines within the Movement, one that advocated rapprochement with the Soviet bloc, and it was presented in the face of Cuba and its allies, while the other one, dominated by Yugoslavia and consisted of many other non-aligned countries, strived to preserve the previous non-bloc and independent orientation of this organization. This was an intensive diplomatic struggle which defined the later destiny of the NAM. This article is primarily based on the documents from the Serbian, US, British, Indian, German and Myanmar archives.

The paper analyzes the establishment of the Young Muslims organization, which was formed in Sarajevo at the dawn of World War II, based on previously unpublished archival materials from the association of Young Muslims 1939, private archives, the State Archives of Serbia, Military Archives, and other relevant sources. The analysis shows the identity and ideological direction of the organization as well as its relationship to the Bosnian ulema, the statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the idea of the nation, the Ustasha ideology, the Communist movement, and other ideological currents present in the time when the organization was founded.

The First World War has left deep traces on the lives of ordinary people. Therefore, it is no wonder that the theme of war was present in various types of human creativity, among other things in theatre. Considering the complexity of the Yugoslav space, the paper aims to point out the image of war on domestic theatre stages. Using archival material and published sources, we gain insight into different interpretations and representations of war in theatre during the seventy years of the common state. In this way, the theatre contributed to shaping public opinion on the events of 1914–1918.

The paper addresses the phenomenon of relativization, denial, and marginalization of significant historical facts from the period of socialist Yugoslavia in order to defend the stereotypical image of that era that exists today. Using Zoran Janjetović’s text from the first issue of the journal Tokovi istorije in 2023 as an example, the paper examines the mechanisms used in domestic historiography to ensure that historical facts do not threaten the traditional narrative about the history of federal Yugoslavia, which was formed during the League of Communists’ one-party dictatorship.

This paper analyzes the establishment, tasks, and operations of people’s district courts in Croatia in the aftermath of the World War II. Their activities are examined within the context of the circumstances surrounding the creation of the legal-normative framework of the new state. The functioning of these courts reflects the importance of the new legal system, authority, and legality of the new political and social order. People’s district courts in the course of their work had to cooperate with other authorities, primarily public prosecutors, OZN (Department for People’s Protection), and others. Therefore, the research of the people’s district courts’ activities also provides an insight into the operations of related institutions in post-war Croatia.
