The paper analyses the implementation of workers’ insurance in the Yugoslav kingdom from 1922 to 1939. The Law on Workers’ Insurance of 1922 provided the legal frame not only for sickness, accident, infirmity, old age and death, but also for unemployment. According to the Law, all persons who permanently or temporarily lease their physical or mental labour force were to be insured regardless of their gender, age and citizenship. Based on the comparison of the number of workers covered by the legal obligation of insurance and the number of actually insured workers, the real scope of the Law on Workers’ Insurance can be assessed.

The article analyses political, religious and propaganda activity of Vasilije (Vasa) Šurlan, an orthodox priest, during the Second World War, as one of the very few documented cases of ideological collaboration between ethnic Serbs and NDH state authorities. Motivation, nature and genesis of collaboration are particularly in the focus of this paper, hence some less known and academically not used historical documents, including Šurlan’s letters from 1941, are published here.

This paper presents a note written by Yugoslav diplomat Veljko Mićunović on board the ship Galeb in April 1961, shortly after his conflict with Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito. The document significantly enhances our understanding of the Mićunović–Tito conflict, as well as the ways in which Yugoslav diplomats collaborated with the Yugoslav President at different stages of representing Yugoslav interests on the international stage.

The article describes the circumstances that led to the revival of sports events in the territory of the Republic of Srpska Krajina in the second half of 1992, temporarily interrupted due to the war. First competitions started in football, by far the most popular sport. After the first part of the competition had ended according to the regional principle, the winners of the five regional competitions met at the final tournament in Glina at the beginning of August 1993. The title of the first champion of RSK was taken by the host team, Banija from Glina, ahead of Šparta from Beli Manastir. The paper was written on the basis of press and publications from Krajina and sports press from Serbia, relevant literature, material from Croatian archives and published memories.

After the end of the Second World War, Yugoslavia and Albania established political and diplomatic relations. Colonel Velimir Stojnić was the first Yugoslav envoy to Albania and he remained in that position until November 1945. In my paper, I will first give a brief overview of the relations between Yugoslavia and Albania 1945–1948. Then in the main chapter, I will deal with the role and significance of Velimir Stojnić in Yugoslav–Albanian cooperation and his impact on Albanian leader Enver Hoxha and Albanian politicians. My research could be part of a broader study of Yugoslav–Albanian relations, especially as an example of good practice in bilateral cooperation.

The article analyzes the enemy propaganda and the violation of public order and peace, as well as the secret services’ propaganda activities as a form of resistance and subversion towards the regime in Serbia and Yugoslavia by the early 1970s. With illegal forms of active resistance eradicated until the beginning of the 1950s, dissatisfaction mostly manifested itself through an increased number of enemy propaganda acts and the attacks on law and order authorities. Unlike those from the time immediately after the war, the culprits of these deeds were to be found predominantly among the young people who grew up after the war, and who mostly originated from communist families. The phenomena to blame for “corrupting Yugoslav youth” were to a significant extent the activities of “foreign intelligence agencies”, as well as the activities of Yugoslav political emigration.

The article, based on the documents of the Archive of the Foreign Policy of the Russian Empire, files for the first time introduced into scientific circulation, reveals the plans of the Russian Empire for economic penetration into the markets of Serbia and other Balkan countries in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A special place in the economic strategy of the St. Petersburg ruling circles in relation to the Balkan region was played by the activities of the Russian Danube shipping company, which was assigned not only a commercial, but also a political role, as one of the important factors in strengthening Russian influence in the Balkan countries, primarily in Serbia. In addition, the development of navigation along the Danube in the late 19th and early 20th centuries allowed the Russian Empire to gain a foothold in the oil markets of both the Balkan countries and Austria-Hungary and Germany. In 1914– 1915, military cargo was transported to Serbia in a Special Purpose Expedition headed by M. M. Veselkin, using the ships and barges of the Russian Danube Shipping Company. That was an important factor in Russian–Serbian military cooperation during the First World War

The paper describes two shellings of Sarajevo’s Markale market in 1994 and 1995. In both cases a large number of civilians were killed, and the forces of the Army of Republika Srpska were accused. The second incident was followed by NATO airstrikes on Serbian positions around Sarajevo. Based on the available material, the article critically reviews all the testimonies about these events and searches for an answer to the question of what exactly happened. However, neither the available documentation nor the “good intentions of a researcher” could allow an unequivocal conclusion about who was responsible for both shellings.
