The Yugoslav exhibition of consumer goods in Moscow was the first of its kind organized by Yugoslavia in a communist country. It opened its door to the public on May 25, 1960, amidst the super-heated international political environment after the American U-2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union. Following the colossal propaganda success of the 1959 U.S. National Exhibition in Moscow, the Yugoslavs managed to deliver yet another propaganda blow to the Soviet prestige, showcasing that even socialism outside the Soviet bloc and in close collaboration with the United States was not only possible but also better.

The article analyzes the beginning of the establishment of the socialist system in Romania, focusing on the Soviet and Allied role in setting up the people’s democratic system in this Eastern European country. In addition, the paper examines the dependence of Romanian communism on relations within the victorious, anti-fascist coalition. Th e aims at analyzing the basic processes and actors in the first months of the establishment of socialism in Romania. Regardless of the fact that in Romanian historiography the topic is solidly researched, in domestic historiography it can be considered necessary for understanding the development of Yugoslav socialism. The work is mainly based on the documents of Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS) series.

The paper presents an analysis of relations between Yugoslavia and the two most important parties of the Italian left: the Italian Communist Party (PCI) and the Italian Socialist Party (PSI) at a time when relations between Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union deteriorated again. It is an effort to explain the way in which the dispute between Belgrade and Moscow affected the relations of the Yugoslav communists with those Italian parties.

This article, primarily based on the documents from the Serbian, Indian, US and British archives, as well as on the relevant domestic and international literature, intends to present the origins, course and results of Yugoslavia’s and Non- Aligned Movement’s (NAM) struggle for the “New International Economic Order” during the 1970s. This was the very first systemic challenge launched with an intention of altering the essence and structure of the entire world economic system in the interest of developing countries, then becoming increasingly relevant international actors.

Engagement is an important component of autobiography as a historical source. How we remember what we are also depends on how we remember what we did as intellectuals. We shall discuss the ideological and moral side of engagement, the change in the content of engagement after the collapse of socialism, and criticism of the conversion of intellectuals. This paper is also a self-reflective attempt at the writer’s self-perception of professional engagement in scholarly and journalistic contributions and practical activity. Self-reflexive awareness of engagement is not a prisoner of correct hegemonic terms that turn the authentic into a socially acceptable autobiographical past.

The paper deals with the organizational and practical issues related to the household plot of the collectivized households in Yugoslavia. This household plot was in the regime of individual property. This structure originated from the Soviet kolkhoz, but had different characteristics in the Yugoslav context. Besides having been an additional source of agricultural products to satisfy the needs of the collectivized households, the products grown on these plots were also allowed to enter the market. The household plot had a disproportionally large impact on the overall agricultural production, since the peasants intensified the use of this plot. This came as a consequence of the dysfunctional and unpopular organizational characteristics of the agricultural cooperatives.

Based on unpublished archival material, published sources and relevant literature, the paper analyzes the relations between the FPRY and the countries of South America in the early years after the Second World War. The year when Yugoslavia renewed diplomatic relations with the most important countries of the South American continent was taken as the starting year of the research, and 1950 was chosen as the last. This was the year that saw signing trade agreements with Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay and Peru, and the peak of trade exchange with Argentina and the re-establishment of broken diplomatic relations with Chile.
