The paper deals with one of the largest covered-up financial affairs in Serbia between the two world wars, that was carried out with participation and knowledge of the very top of the political establishment at that time. The aim of the article is to contribute to the previous efforts to empirically prove how large-scale corruption worked, that is, how the plutocratization had shaped the political elites in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Through an analysis of the establishment and operation of banks and companies that were grouped into a large consortium called the Dragiša Matejić concern, the paper explains the mechanisms of hitherto uninvestigated financial malfeasance, cover-ups, and deliberate violations of the law by the highest state officials, as well as to what extent the principle of nepotism and cronyism prevailed in the business world.

The article deals with the events arising from the needs of Bulgarian exports to COMECON and EEC countries through Yugoslavia in order to improve its balance payments. The paper analyzes the phases during which the Bulgarian side developed its policy of pressuring Yugoslavia to build a section of the international road. Bulgaria gradually increased pressure on Yugoslavia to construct it according to the modern needs of international road traffic, from which Bulgaria benefited the most. However, the Yugoslav side managed to take the initiative during the negotiations and secure favorable conditions for the construction of the section of the international road.

As a publicist, literary critic, and politician, Jakov Jaša Prodanović (1867–1948) was one of the most prominent supporters of the ideas of republicanism and social justice in the Kingdom of Serbia and in the Yugoslav monarchy of the Karađorđević dynasty. In 1917, due to the so-called Salonika Trial, he stopped supporting the monarchy, opting for the republican form of government in the future Yugoslav state. The analysis of his views on the convening, membership, and role of the Constituent Assembly in 1920 is of great importance for understanding the circumstances in which the first Yugoslav parliament took place, bearing in mind Jaša Prodanović’s rich political experience acquired in the Kingdom of Serbia. The paper is based on documents from the Archives of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, contemporary periodicals, and relevant historiography.

The article examines the termination of the diplomatic relations between Yugoslavia and Bulgaria in April 1941 and the expulsion of Yugoslav diplomatic personnel from Sofia. The first part of the article gives a brief overview of the events that ultimately resulted in two neighboring Balkan countries taking the opposite sides in the new world conflict, while the second part analyzes the causes and consequences of the closure of the Yugoslav legation in Sofia. The work is based on unpublished archival material from the archives in Serbia and Bulgaria, published sources and literature.

The paper analyzes the circumstances in which Bulgaria and the Allies signed the Armistice in October 1944. It is the fundamental document from which the post-war structure of power arose in Bulgaria (as well as in other countries that were Nazi satellites). The attitude of the Allies towards the term “unconditional surrender” is discussed on the basis of the collection of sources: Foreign Relations of the United States. The work contributes to a more detailed understanding of the Yugoslav context at the end of the war.

The article is an attempt to conduct an examination of both plans and results of the establishing of heavy industry during the implementation of the First Five-Year Plan in socialist Yugoslavia, through a detailed analysis of published and unpublished historical sources. Previous studies have not offered precise answers to this question and therefore the paper will present new results of this controversial period of Yugoslav economic history.
