This paper presents an FPGA-based stereo vision system using census transform for autonomous mobile robots. Most autonomous mobile robot need to quickly recognize the surroundings in order to avoid obstructions and find pathways. Therefore, faster image processing methods are required to be capable of mobility. Accordingly, the FPGA-based stereo vision system using census transform is proposed, where the feature description represents the adaptation to various environments and has compactness of binary information on logic circuits. As experimental results, the proposed FPGA-based stereo vision system was very faster than the software system on the same platform. Moreover, the mismatch rate was very low for the stereo correspondence.

As the Avionics Full-Duplex Switched Ethernet network has been employed for airborne data networks, most of related research work has mainly focused on the analysis of delay and jitter between the end systems with predetermined configuration. However, due to assumption on preconfigured virtual links, their optimal solutions seem unsuitable for implementation. This implies that configuration problem for the virtual link remains unsolved yet. To meet this requirement, in this paper, we propose new algorithms for configuring the virtual link by determining grouping of each flow while reducing the required bandwidth in AFDX. This algorithm is accomplished by taking two different approaches, bottom-up and top-down. Finally, we prove their suitability for configuration problem through experimental results by demonstrating not much difference between two algorithms in the aspect of required bandwidth.

The phase evolution of Si on Ni (111) was studied by LEED and AES. A new phase of Si on Ni (111) was found along with the previously reported (√3 × √3)R 30° phase. The surface structure of (√3 × √3)R 30° phase had determined, with chemical composition of Ni2Si, by using low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) analysis. The obtained nickel silicide would be helpful for understanding the formation of Schottky barrier at semiconductor-metal interface.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a diagnostic procedure that measures and records the electrical activity of heart in detail. By reviewing an ECG report, one's condition of heart can be evaluated. But ECG signals are often affected and altered by the presence of various noises that degrade the accuracy of an ECG signal and thus misrepresents the recorded data. To filter out these noises conventional digital filters have been used for decades. Yet noise cancellation with finite and determined coefficients has often been unsuccessful due to the non-stationary nature of ECG signal. Adaptive filters adapt their filter coefficients with the continuous change of signal using adaptive algorithms, providing the optimum noise removal features for non-stationary signals like ECG. In this study, the adaptive filter algorithm, RLS has been used in cancellation of various noises in ECG signals. We have also performed noise removal using LMS adaptive filter algorithm to compare the performance of RLS algorithm. We have used MATLAB® to simulate different noise signals and process the noises. The ECG signals used here have been taken from the PhysioNet ECG-ID database. The simulation results depict that RLS algorithm renders a much better performance in removing noises from the ECG signals than LMS algorithm.

The present paper is aimed to help native spanish speakers to identify an open and effective spanish encoding function during data matching process. We present the implementation and enhancement of the encoding algorithm Spanish Phonetic Soundex [1]. We have carried out an evaluation of data matching considering Spanish Phonetic Soundex, Soundex [2], [3] and Phonex [4] in terms of precision-recall and f-measure. As far as we know, such comparison against these phonetic functions has not been presented before. We suggest spanish speaker users a Modified Spanish Phonetic Soundex function, that has a better performance in terms of precision, f-measure and similarity values derived from the encoding phase than the common phonetic coding functions utilized until now.

The intranuclear cascade model is investigated to explain composite particle productions in medium-energy proton-nucleus reactions. The composite particle production is governed mainly by the direct pick-up process in the medium-energy range. In the present work, the direct pickup process is introduced into the model in addition to the knockout and the indirect-pickup processes. Resultant double differential cross sections for proton-induced reactions are in good agreements with experiments over the entire energy range.

Conventional response analyzers use various student devices such as clickers and mobile devices, which require the additional burdens of charging and managing. Fiducial marker-based response analyzers have been proposed to relieve these burdens. The IDs and rotations of the fiducial markers are used to identify students and their respective answers. The marker-based approach is straightforward, but transferrable data are limited to the ID and the rotations. To enhance the transferrable data, we introduce a method of extracting curves of the marker sheet. Since a paper sheet is flexible, students can control the shape of the sheet intuitively. We have implemented our method by modifying a conventional fiducial marker recognizer and confirmed its effectiveness.

With many companies increasingly improving productivity efficiency, this introduces a necessity to eliminate operational errors by operators. One critical error is incorrect machine recognition. Moreover, operators manipulate their machines to align vehicles which always take a lengthy amount of time. To enhance production efficiency and minimize operational errors, a recognition system is necessary to identify correct attachments, and aid operators in aligning the vehicle. In this article, an image recognition technology is applied due to its low cost and flexibility involving the adoption of `ring codes'. Matlab is used to process and analyse the image data, after which the GUI in Matlab displays the identified results of the target attachment and associated spatial information. The methods applied in the software systems are optimal. The theories and methods included in the software systems are: linear spatial filter, nonlinear spatial filter, thinning, dilation, normalization, amplification, rotation, Fourier Transform, Hough Transform, edge detection, chain code, and so on. Among them, the method of angle calculation implements parameter space reduction of the Hough Transform.
