In a wide range of academic interests and practical activities of P. A. Kropotkin, researchers of his work paid obviously insufficient attention to the issues of cartography and topography. Geographical maps of the Russian scientist-encyclopedist are well known in our country and abroad, their importance for illustrating the main ideas and theories of P. A. Kropotkin has been repeatedly emphasized in the works of historians of science, but his role in the domestic cartography development has never been considered specifically. We have made an attempt to compensate for the noted lacuna to some extent.

The article’s purpose is to analyze the everyday life of the administrative center of the Altai Territory Barnaul during the Great Patriotic War. The question is not yet explored in the literature. The city became one of the major centers for the location of evacuated industrial enterprises from Leningrad, Stalingrad, Kharkov, Lugansk and other cities of the European part of the USSR, as well as hospitals, cultural and educational institutions. On the arrived equipment basis, defense plants as Transmash, Machine-tool, Boiler, Mechanical presses and others were built and put into operation in a short time. The issues of the local authorities’ activities for the placement of new enterprises and institutions in the city, the solution of the housing problem, the formation of workers and employees collectives are considered. It is shown that the personnel were formed not only from the evacuated, but also the local urban and rural population. The changes in the higher and secondary special education spheres which were caused by the placement of evacuated educational institutions are concidered. Important changes have taken place in the culture, because of the location of two evacuated theaters (Moscow Chamber Theater and Dnepropetrovsk Drama Theater) and circus in Barnaul. Attention is drawn to the work of parks and cinemas in wartime conditions. Attention is drawn to the functioning of parks and cinemas in wartime conditions. The situation with the food supply of citizens and the role of subsistence farms is analyzed. The article uses archival and published sources, including ones of private origin. The author concluded that during the war years the city turned into a significant industrial, educational and cultural center of the south of Western Siberia.

The article is devoted to the identification and determination of the scientific significance of objects of historical and cultural heritage in Siberia in the pre-revolutionary period. The attitude to heritage is considered in the context of the analysis of the formation of the cultural and information environment. If in the 17th century. knowledge about pre-Russian Siberia was extremely scarce and fragmentary, and its heritage was interested only in terms of the value of the metals from which things were made, looted from ancient burial grounds, then after the decrees of Peter 1, the identification and study of the material remains of the past begins. The idea of the need to preserve the historical and cultural monuments of not only the peoples of Siberia, but also the Russian period was concretized and refined throughout the 19th century. The author examines the changes in the perception of the authorities and society about the significance of these material evidences of the Russian colonization of the trans-Ural territories by the example of the Siberian wooden fortresses. Most of the work on the identification and study of Siberian antiquities was carried out by the efforts of individual enthusiasts trying to preserve their remains in home collections and museums. The monuments of Siberian architecture, primarily wooden architecture, were in a deplorable state.
