Clinical Results for Maxillary Implant Overdentures with Prosthetic Systems: A Literature Review 上颌种植覆盖义齿修复系统的临床效果:文献综述

OPEN ACCESS Background: The two-implant overdenture should be considered as the first treatment option for mandibular edentulous patients. But for the maxilla, there is no widely accepted consensus yet. In this study, implant survival rate, clinical evaluations, marginal bone loss of the maxillary overdenture were investigated. Materials and Methods: “Maxillary overdenture” was the key word of this study, and with the combination of “attachment system”, “implant number”, “implant survival rate”, “clinical evaluation” and “marginal bone loss”, 21 journals were searched by “Pubmed”. Results: There were no differences in the survival rate according to the attachment systems and implant numbers. Especially, maxillary overdentures with four or more implants showed excellent results. Clinical parameters and marginal bone loss were not affected by attachment systems and implant numbers. Conclusion: For successful maxillary implant overdenture treatment, four or more implants can be considered using various attachment systems.

Placement of a Retro-fitted Single Crown Restoration Under an Existing Denture by Employing Digital Technology: A Case Report 利用数字技术在现有义齿下修复单冠修复体的安置:1例报告

OPEN ACCESS This article demonstrates a case that successfully placed a retro-fitted crown restoration under an existing denture by employing the characteristics of digital technology. Scanned data of the arch that involves edentulous area, and of the old denture itself were obtained and superimposed on each other. A virtual crown was modeled in computer-aided design software with marginally larger than the ideal size. The old denture was regarded as an adjacent tooth in the setting menu so that the portion of the virtual crown that extends over to the old denture could be automatically deleted by selecting the “Cut intersections” option. This retro-fitted crown was milled with a polymethylmethacrylate disc after a minor adjustment of its contour. The crown and the old denture were placed in the patient’s mouth, and resulted in favorable esthetic outcome and occlusion, showing proper relationship with the old denture.

Comparison of Healing of Allograft and Autogenous Bone Implanted in the Skull Defect of Beagle Dog: Preliminary Animal Study 同种异体骨与自体骨移植修复比格犬颅骨缺损的初步动物研究

OPEN ACCESS Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the healing process af ter autogenous and allogenous bone grafts for calvarial bone defects in beagles. Materials and Methods: Two defects were formed in the skulls of two beagles and then grafted with a f reeze-dried bone allograf t (Double-Oss) and an autogenous bone chip, respectively. The clinical, radiographic, and histomorphometric examination results of the specimens taken 4 and 8 weeks after bone grafting were analyzed. Results: The clinical, radiographic, and histological assessments revealed that 4 and 8 weeks after transplant, the beagle that received an autogenous bone graft was more likely to have high new bone formation than the beagle that had an allogenous bone. Four weeks after the transplant, the proportions of new bone formation were 11.5% and 35.8% in the allogenous and autogenous bones, respectively. Eight weeks af ter the transplant, the proportion of new bone formation with the allogenous bone increased significantly to 41.4% but was still less than the 65.6% with the autogenous bone. Conclusion: The amount of new bone formation was smaller and the formation rate was slower with allogenous bone graft than with autogenous bone graft.

Assessment of Bone Quality in Pre-dental Implant Site Using Periapical, Panoramic and Computed Tomography 应用根尖周、全景和计算机断层扫描评估牙前种植体骨质量

Purpose: Radiological evaluation of bone quality as well as the shape of the alveolar bone of the edentulous part to be placed is very important f or successf ul implant placement. Recently, threedimensional analysis using computed tomography and cone beam computed tomography has been actively used before implant surgery, but periapical and panoramic radiographs have been used for a long time to evaluate alveolar bone using low radiation doses. The purpose of this study was to compare the Hounsfield unit value of CT af ter dividing maxillary, mandibular, anterior, and posterior teeth into whether periapical and panoramic radiographs could be effectively used for bone quality evaluation. Materials and Methods: The periapical x-ray, panoramic x-ray, and conventional CT were taken from a total of 100 patients who have undergone the implant treatment. For 3D analysis, the virtual implants with a diameter of 4 mm and a length of 10 mm were placed in the implant planning software and the bone quality of 1 mm circumference was measured by Hounsfield unit value.
