This paper describes a new approach to detect localized rolling bearing defects based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and hidden Markov model (HMM). In view of the non-stationary characteristics of bearing fault vibration signals, using EMD method, the original non-stationary vibration signal can be decomposed into a finite number of stationary signals. The stationary signal adapts itself better to the conditions of fault characteristic parameter based on power spectrum analysis and also show bearing fault characteristics clearly. By setting envelope-singles fault-characteristic parameters of each main stationary signal to train HMM, this study also presents a method of pattern recognition for bearing fault diagnosis using HMM. Experimental results show that (1) the approach has successful bearing fault detection rates as high as 98% for every single fault; (2) although fault styles sometimes are confusing, the approach proves better at recognizing combinations of these faults

A simple genetic algorithm (SGA) is applied to the search for the minimum factor of safety and the corresponding critical failure mechanism of the slopes subjected to pore-water pressure based on the kinematical approach of limit analysis and the shear strength reduction technique. The method is shown to be superior to mathematics programming procedure and other optimization techniques, which can find false minima, and to 'brute force' approaches, which require the analysis of a very large number of possibilities. Numerical results are presented and the efficiency and capability of the proposed method is verified. Finally, comparable computations are made to examine the influence of pore water pressure on slope stability

A network control system used for tobacco packing machine is developed in this paper. The key technologies including software framework of monitoring program and network communication of S5-135 multi-processor PLC are researched in depth. Furthermore, the functions and characters of the network control system are analyzed. This control system realizes communications between monitoring station and S5-135 multi-processor PLC using PROFIBUS protocol, and the integration between PROFIBUS and enterprise information network MIS at the same time. This control system has already been implemented in one large-scale tobacco group successfully, and good economic benefits have been achieved

An optimal scheme for off-line Chinese signature verification is described in the paper. By using the projection profiles of signatures in different directions, the scheme obtained the objective function of signature verification. Then it employed dynamic programming for optimal matching and carried out training and verification. Otherwise, the technique of selecting the reference signature sample and decision threshold in verification was proposed in order to reduce random disturbance. The experimental results show that the least error rate can be obtained by using the combination of two different directions of projection profiles in gray images

Based on geometric theory of nonlinear feedback control, a new method to synchronize chaotic systems was put forward. As prerequisite of an appropriate smooth vector field by virtue of nonlinear differential geometry theory to assure the normalization of the receiver system was completed, and then in terms of differences of outputs and their different orders derivatives of the transmitter and receiver, the synchronization error state equations were constructed. By pole assignment, a nonlinear controller to synchronization output signals of two chaotic systems was also given and extended to the whole or part of the states of the two systems. As a result, numerical simulation to the Chua's circuit and its application in secure communication proves the efficiency of the suggested methods

We propose a quasi-infinite horizon nonlinear model predictive control with terminal inequality constraint and terminal state quadratic penalty. The feasibility of terminal state inequality constraint implies the states at the end of the horizon are in a prescribed asymptotically stable but not necessarily invariant ellipsoidal set in terms of an auxiliary parameter-dependent quadratic Lyapunov function. The terminal state penalty matrix of the terminal penalty item is to be chosen as parameter-dependent matrix. The technology relaxes terminal state inequality constraint and reduces the state penalty in terminal stable set. Then two stabilizing nonlinear model predictive control algorithms are proposed based on a sequence of asymptotically stable parameter-dependent ellipsoidal set computed offline with different upper bound

The problem of robust overlapping decentralized control for a class of multi-area power system with radial structure are discussed in this paper. Based on its own structure information a new control method is presented, which can improve the robust decentralized control performance of the radial structure interconnected power system. In the method, the special overlapping decomposition process is carried on for the radial structure based on the restriction conditions of inclusion principle at first. Then the robust decentralized controllers are designed by means of linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. The proposed method is applied to AGC of a four-area radial structure power system, and the simulation results show that the performances of the controllers designed by proposed method are better than the one by LMI approach directly

The elitist genetic algorithms and hybrid genetic algorithms are adopted respectively to train the neural networks in order to compensate coupling effect. Based on analysis of the convergence of the genetic algorithms, the feasibility of the online decoupling algorithm is discussed. A new machining error prediction approach, which is based on the weighted least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM), was given. The nearer sample was set a larger weight, while the farther was set the smaller weight in the history data. In the same condition, the results show that the prediction accuracy of the weighted LS-SVM is 40% higher than that of the standard LS-SVM. Compared with other more modeling approaches, the prediction effect indicates that the proposed method is more accurate and can be realized more easily. It provides a better way for on-line quality monitoring and controlling of dynamic machining
