This paper presents a pre-validated set of 12 static 3D stimuli for the needs of uncanny valley-related studies. We provide the set along with guidelines on how to use it, which are based on the aggregated data analysis covering previous laboratory and online studies. Guidelines cover the models’ characteristics (in terms of human-likeness and other visual traits), issues related to the stimuli presentation and study groups. As the set is publicly available, we believe that it enhances future studies aimed at replicating the uncanny valley effect.

Worldwide, numerous studies have been conducted on m-health applications and the results show that, if well-designed, they can regulate and track medication and reduce healthcare costs. The aim of this research is to analyze the experiences of users connected to different lifestyle apps, in particular (1) to explore the negative, neutral and positive topics in the reviews, and (2) to discover the role of health improvement among the comments. The present paper is part of a complex empirical research project. A qualitative and quantitative content analysis was conducted of the user reviews in the Google Play store for the 16 lifestyle apps selected during the first phase of the empirical research (quasi experiment). All in all, 2,835 comments were analyzed. The negative comments mentioned unreliable tracking functions, problems with updates, or high prices. The neutral comments outlined some missing functions or problems with the operation of the app. The positive comments were related to health improvement, usefulness, ease of use, engagement and willingness to recommend the app. Physical activity, facilitating a specific diet, weight loss, wellbeing, tracking progress and health awareness were among the common health aspects of the lifestyle apps. The results of this research will be particularly useful for consumers, app developers and service providers who focus on health awareness and health promotion.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the world economy, and the restrictions have shaken business models. E-commerce has skyrocketed as the only way to purchase products and AI has received closer consideration as social distancing has become imperative. This research aims to find whether the COVID-19 has translated into an opportunity for the use of AI by companies. A survey incorporating consumers and companies was conducted to analyse the positioning of consumers regarding the use of AI, as well as the perception of companies regarding their possible use of AI. It was concluded that due to COVID-19 there was an increase in the relevance that companies give to AI, the main drivers being the companies' views on AI and the benefits from its use. Regarding consumer behaviour, consumers are more receptive to AI use, favouring a fully automated experience, with half of the sample preferring to buy online.

During the last few months, we have seen plenty of discussion about text-generating AI chatbots like ChatGPT. We have also seen many different kinds of affects and emotions connected to these tools. People are curious, suspicious, intrigued, or maybe even afraid of what our future will be like. Therefore, we need hope. In this editorial we want to stress the importance of hope and argue that people should not be left alone with suspicion, fear and doubt about how technology will change their future.

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) technology emerged as an innovative solution that supports the maintenance of operational processes and ensures business continuity, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. A survey was conducted for the purposes of this study. The main objective of the survey was to identify employees’ attitudes towards RPA implementation in Polish service companies. The attitudes related to their involvement in the design and implementation of RPA solutions and their awareness of the fact that performing repetitive tasks is inefficient were scored the highest. The surveyed managers were of the opinion that employees waste time because they are occupied rewriting data between systems instead of developing the company, so they should be transferred to doing more complex and value-added work. Moreover, the involved statistical analyses also considered the correlations between employees’ attitudes and determinants of RPA adoption.

The purpose of this study was to compare attitudes toward sexting using vignettes. Participants were 49 university students (ages 19-26) who participated in five online focus group discussions and responded to five written vignettes describing sexting. The five vignettes about sexting were composed of five types of sexting experiences: 1) sexting under intimate partner pressure, 2) revenge sexting, 3) consensual sexting with intimate partner, 4) sexting under peer pressure, and 5) sexting to flirt with others. Students gave their opinions on the vignettes presented. Revenge sexting was perceived as a behaviour more negative than any other type of sexting experience. The vignette that depicted sexting with an intimate partner in a long-distance relationship was perceived as the least negative of all types of sexting. The results of this study aim to inspire future studies to use vignettes as a methodological tool to determine youths' attitudes, beliefs, and opinions about sexting.

Consumers may undertake various steps in order to increase the rationality of their choices. One of the options involves drawing up a shopping list. The study presents an innovative method of analysing consumer behaviour during shopping. Modern technologies were used to set up a virtual environment within which a store was created. A combination of methods was employed to assess the subjective opinions expressed during in-depth interviews. Another step focused on analysing the internal stimuli of the research subjects with the use of neuroscientific tools to evaluate the behaviour of the research participants. The aim of the study was to verify the impact of a shopping list on consumer rationality. The research results presented constitute a part of a broader research project, within the scope of which research method triangulations enabled an in-depth analysis of conscious and unconscious aspects of the subjects’ behaviour (Borawski et al. 2021).

Artificial Intelligence implies computer systems capable of mimicking human-like intelligence and competencies. In the nowadays society it is an exciting topic, thus, technology’s gender features and roles are of great interest as well. As the literature is still scarce and inconsistent, the present paper aims to develop a systematic literature review on gender stereotypes attached to technology (virtual assistants and robots). The main goals are to emphasize the labels given to technology from a gender perspective, the perceived competencies of the gendered technology, the most relevant variables responsible for the way gender issues are perceived in connection with technology, and the proposed solutions for diminishing the technology gender stereotypes. Forty-five scientific papers have been selected and analyzed. Findings suggest that the most intelligent technologies are designed as females, male-gendered technology performs better in task-solving, and users’ age and technology’s visual representation are important variables in perception.

University students are considered digital natives but they often have difficulties in the effective integration of information technology (IT) into their study routine. To unravel this puzzle we proposed a model of IT effects on students' well-being, based on the Job Demands-Resources theory, one of the most widely used models of human well-being in organizational contexts. We described three processes affecting students’ well-being. A techno-stress process generates strain via an increase in study demands. A techno-enrichment process sparks motivation through the creation of energizing study techno-resources. A dual-nature techno-challenge process sparks motivation but also creates strain. Our elaboration might help to reconcile conflicting findings on the role of IT in remote learning and contribute to a better understanding of the effect of IT on students. The proposed theoretical model might also spark further empirical research and provide guidelines for research on IT use in university learning.

Segmentation is a cognitive process involved in the understanding of information perceived through the senses. Likewise, the automatic segmentation of data captured by sensors may be used for the identification of patterns. This study is concerned with the segmentation of dancing motion captured by accelerometry and its possible applications, such as pattern learning and recognition, or gestural control of devices. To that effect, an automatic segmentation system was formulated and tested. Two participants were asked to ‘dance with one arm’ while their motion was measured by an accelerometer. The performances were recorded on video, and manually segmented by six annotators later. The annotations were used to optimize the automatic segmentation system, maximizing a novel similarity score between computed and annotated segmentations. The computed segmentations with highest similarity to each annotation were then manually assessed by the annotators, resulting in Precision between 0.71 and 0.89, and Recall between 0.82 to 1.

The annotations were used to optimize the automatic segmentation system, maximizing a novel similarity score between computed and annotated segmentations.
