Purpose- Operational performance is critical to competitive advantage, market share and financial performance of organisations. These benefits of operational performance translate to the socioeconomic growth and development of nations. Despite the relevance of this construct, there is paucity of validated scales on it in the airlines’ sector. This study, therefore, conceptualized, dimensionalized and validated the operational performance construct in the civil aviation sector. Methodology- I exhumed 49 items from the vast literature on operational performance in several sectors, including the airline industry. I contacted managers in the aviation sector and experts in the field to confirm face and content validity. I then engaged an initial sample of 213 workers in the 18 Nigerian domestic airlines and subjected the proposed items to Exploratory Factor Analysis (using IBM SPSS version 27). Furthermore, I enlisted another sample of 201 respondents and used the second set of data to conduct a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (using IBM SPSS Amos version 26). Findings – The initial 49 items passed the test of face and content validity. Exploratory Factor Analysis resulted in the extraction of 29 items from the initial 49 items, representing five principal components (quality, cost, responsiveness, innovation and safety). Upon Confirmatory Factor Analysis, the final 29-item instrument passed the tests of validity and reliability. The proposed overall measurement model had a good fit with the sample data. Conclusion- Based on the findings, the study emphasized the need for managers in the airline sector to be aware that the twenty nine observable indicators validated in this study can be deployed to improve their organisations’ operational performance via quality, cost, responsiveness, innovation and safety. The paper reveals some methodological limitations and suggested that structural models on the nexus between operational performance and other variables, such as organizational culture and environmental turbulence, be developed and tested in diverse settings.

Purpose – The number of retaliation charges filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has been increasing dramatically over last decade. This analysis is grounded on the USA regulations and a merged city and a county local government in the USA. Organizational analysis was based on the work of Bolman and Deal (2008). This study's aim was to explore the relationships between organizational behavior and retaliation against employees in the USA and increase attention among scholars for further research as well. Although retaliation is classified under discrimination it is taken as a special charge. Methodology– The recent lawsuit examples demonstrate the apparent costly conflict within the local government, organizational structure and its systems are reviewed to explore if they are causing negative conflicts in the organization. Bolman and Deal's (2008) strategy is applied to the studied local government in the USA. To be able to understand the relationships between the local governmental structure and retaliation problems is deeply analyzed on structural, human resources, political, and symbolic frames. Most of the retaliation cases took place at the Division of Community Correction. To explore if there are internal contributors’ effects to the problem requirements for a job application and job descriptions of a correction officer are investigated and compared with other organizations’ job description for the same position, as well as training requirements. Findings – This study revealed several problems that the studied local government needs to address to prevent retaliation cases. First of all, the local government doesn’t have an established culture, and because of that, the employees are not sure how to behave or act when they face challenges. Although organizational symbols exist to eliminate confusion, ambiguity to provide direction, to secure hope and faith in organizations, the local government doesn’t have clear symbols. While stories convey values and serve as powerful modes from the tyranny of facts and logic, the local government’s employees are afraid of speaking out about some issues, and bad stories pass from employees to employees. In terms of policies, the study discovered that whatever stated officially is not in use. Harassment training is given to new beginners and never reoffered to current employees. Broken and unclear communication is another finding that might be leading to organizational problems. Conclusion – The increasing number of costly retaliation cases in the United States needs more attention to the causes to solve this problem. Public agencies are funded by taxes paid by households and companies to the government to receive services such as water, roads, education etc. Public agencies’ high lawsuit settlement payments jeopardize the public’s rights to have services. These problems have some indirect costs which should be taken into account. Currently, little attention is paid to the subje

Purpose- In this study, it is aimed to improve the production and quality control processes of a company operating in the textile industry. For this purpose predicting faulty and refund products by using simulation of oversampling and undersampling applications. Methodology– In this study, there are 250 different variables and 72959 lines of data on the production line. These data have been taken from the last 1-year data of the firm. In this study, simulation has been done. New machine learning methods have been used by simulating. The reason for the simulation is that it was easy to detect the refund and faulty conditions made in a large lot group production in previous studies. However, the aim is to investigate whether the accuracy of the prediction algorithms will yield consistent results in terms of the increase in the number of refund and faulty products when production is made in a larger structure. In the simulation method, "oversampling" and "undersampling" methods have been used. While making simulation prediction, in the literature, boosting algorithms, which are used as ensemble machine learning techniques, have been used. In this study, simulation has been done as follows, while the number of production lots increased, refund and faulty products were increased within the same application. The reason for doing this is to investigate whether the prediction status in normal machine learning algorithms can be captured in a larger data stack. This process is called oversampling. Then, the "undersampling" method was applied. According to the “undersampling” method, it is aimed to determine the refund and defect situations in a smaller lot by taking samples of refund and defective products with less frequency. At the end of the study, the results were interpreted by applying boosting algorithms. Findings- As a result of the study, it is concluded that "undersampling" and "oversampling" simulations predict better than usual machine learning methodology. Conclusion- In this study, it has been observed that the ensemble machine learning algorithms (adaboost, xgboost, gradient boosting algorithms), which are one of the ensemble machine learning methods that emerged in 2016, were applied to the production data for the first time and showed success in the prediction of faulty and refund products.

Purpose- It has increased the demand for air transport in the medium and long distance for about two and a half times in Turkey, as in all the world, over the last decade. This increase is for the city of Istanbul in which hosting such a rate of 50% of air traffic in Turkey has brought the need for a new airport. The first phase of Istanbul Airport (IST-LTFM), that is planned to meet the increasing air transport demand in Istanbul and to increase the existing passenger and cargo carrying capacity, was completed in October 2018. Transportation to Istanbul Airport, which is located further away from the places where the settlement is dense, has gained importance due to its location. Since currently only highway transportation is available, it is planned to provide transportation to the airport by rail and seaways. In the first part of the research, the literature integration with other transportation modes, airport integration and airport access options are viewed. In this context, the information of integration between upcoming rail systems and Istanbul Airport have been obtained from secondary data sources. Methodology- In the second part of the study, the estimated number of passengers at Istanbul Airport in 2021 and the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on the forecasts have been evaluated. In the practice part of the research, through a computer-aided simulation program, the rate of GHYMETRO project's response to the estimated passenger demand in 2021 was investigated in 3 different scenarios. Findings- It is foreseen that the GHYMETRO project, which will be carried out according to the data obtained as a result of simulation analysis under effective capacity conditions (with 95% and 100% occupancy rate), can meet 70% of the total passenger demand at Istanbul Airport in the 1st Scenario. In the scenario 2, which is assumed that the COVID-19 crisis continues, it is observed that there will be 99% residual capacity in the pessimistic situation, and 72% residual capacity in optimistic situation. Finally, it is predicted that there will be 43% residual capacity in the pessimistic situation and 14% residual capacity in optimistic situation in Scenario 3, where the normalization process is evaluated after the COVID-19 crisis. Conclusion- Based on these analyses, it can be concluded that COVID-19 crises stroke almost all aviation activities and its related sectors severely so that up-to-date projects should be taken place to carry on their operations.

Purpose - Although the concept of Sustainable Human Resource Management (HRM) has been frequently discussed in recently, the measurement and dimensions of the concept are still vague. This study aims to explore Sustainable HRM practices and provide a guide to facilitate Sustainable HRM implementations and to measure its pertinent practices. Methodology - The sample of this study consists of 36 sustainability reports of 29 firms listed on the BIST Sustainability Index. The reports belong to two consecutive fiscal years: 2014-2015 and 2015-2016. The researchers have conducted a content analysis to reports by using the indexing technique, in line with a coding guide adopted from The Global Reporting Initiative - Sustainability Reporting Guidelines-G4 (GRI-G4) principles. Findings- This research has identified the discursive dimension of sustainable HRM in the context of Turkey. Following this purpose, the researchers have prepared a guide and posited the dimensions of Sustainable HRM elaborately. Moreover, the study has demonstrated the applicability of the triple reporting system to the Turkish setting. Conclusion- Different stakeholder expectations require to take HRM with its macro and micro dimensions. Sustainable HRM stands out as a concept to respond to this demand. After its fast-paced introduction as of 2000, the concept has gained momentum specifically in the last decade. Conceiving the structure of Sustainable HRM with its economic, environmental, and social dimensions constitutes a critical step of meeting this expectation. This study has identified Sustainable HRM practices, which may guide companies to have a sustainable organizational form and provide researchers a measurement tool.

Methodology - The sample of this study consists of 36 sustainability reports of 29 firms listed on the BIST Sustainability Index. The reports belong to two consecutive fiscal years: 2014-2015 and 2015-2016. The researchers have conducted a content analysis to reports by using the indexing technique, in line with a coding guide adopted from The Global Reporting Initiative - Sustainability Reporting Guidelines-G4 (GRI-G4) principles. Findings- This research has identified the discursive dimension of sustainable HRM in the context of Turkey. Following this purpose, the researchers have prepared a guide and posited the dimensions of Sustainable HRM elaborately. Moreover, the study has demonstrated the applicability of the triple reporting system to the Turkish setting. Conclusion- Different stakeholder expectations require to take HRM with its macro and micro dimensions. Sustainable HRM stands out as a concept to respond to this demand. After its fast-paced introduction as of 2000, the concept has gained momentum specifically in the last decade. Conceiving the structure of Sustainable HRM with its economic, environmental, and social dimensions constitutes a critical step of meeting this expectation. This study has identified Sustainable HRM practices, which may guide companies to have a sustainable organizational form and provide researchers a measurement tool.","PeriodicalId":376357,"journal":{"name":"Research Journal of Business Management","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129646735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Purpose- The aim of this study is to produce a new solution matrix to develop innovative solutions for the problems encountered during the delivery of health services and to present a methodology on how to use TRIZ in health services. Methodology- In this study, contradiction matrix, 40 principles and IFR-idealism philosophy, which are among the basic TRIZ paradigms, were used in the process of presenting innovative solutions. One of the Pairwise Comparison methods AHP (Analytical hierarchy process) was used when parameter matching. Findings- As a result of the study, a new matrix and methodology has been developed. Conclusion- Although TRIZ is a very famous problem-solving method, there are only a few studies that use TRIZ to improve service quality in healthcare. This study proposes a new framework for TRIZ's use in healthcare and will serve as a guide for researchers working in this field. Healthcare providers will be able to develop innovative solutions to the problems they encounter by using the 16X16 solution matrix developed as a result of this study and following the methodology proposed as a result of this study.
