The paper reviews main theoretical reasons explaining why cooperatives and cooperation in developing, rural and poor countries, have a comparative advantage in enlarging poor people's capabilities. In particular, we consider main pillars of the Capability Approach to human development with reference to the relation between groups and capabilities, and discuss why cooperative groups can support participatory human development, grassroots empowerment and human poverty alleviation.

Several definitions of social welfare can be found in the professional literature, especially on corporate social responsibility. In this paper, we start from the social responsibility of corporates and individuals for the creation of added value as a fundamental criterion for defining appropriate behavior. At the same time social irresponsibility is defined as well. It is important to define the responsible pillars for particular processes. Such a definition of processes enables the planning of social action in the broadest sense.

The customers purchase decision process and the related satisfaction is always an important issue in marketing management. This paper investigates the impact of satisfaction with customers’ decision process on evaluating their post purchase performance. When customers feel dissatisfied in purchase decision, the positive or negative perceive value will occur event the post purchase evaluation is satisfaction or dissatisfaction. The author proposes a stochastic model to describe the contradiction situation. The conditional probability is used to construct different scenarios with decision process and post purchase evaluation. The empirical data is provided to estimate the parameters of the proposed model. It is also used to make model calibration. Finally, the research results and application are demonstrated.

Many Nigerian polytechnic libraries seem not subscribe to or renew their subscriptions to Web-based Information Resources (WBIR) databases despite its increasing popularity in the academic world. Hence, the study was aimed to look into recurring issues in the use of WBIR by public polytechnic students in Southwestern Nigeria. Six public polytechnics out of the 16 offering Higher National Diploma (HND) programmemes were selected by stratified random sampling to reflect federal and stage polytechnics. Proportionate to size sampling technique was used to select 1,463 HND students. The instruments used were WBIR use for Academic Tasks (α=0.98), and Challenges of WBIR Use (α=0.84) scales. Data were analysed using proportionate and descriptive statistics. Majority of the respondents 709(51.1%) listed Google as the major search engine used. Others indicated a combination of Google and other search engines like Google, and Bing (71 or 5.1%), Chrome, Google, and Operamini (71 or 5.1%). Wikipedia (136 or 9.8%), and Myschool.com 55 (4.0%)are commondatabase/website used by the students.Challenges to WBIR use include high cost of accessibility (α=2.73) and download delay (α=2.64).Public polytechnic students in Southwestern Nigeria used web-based information resources, especially obtainable through Google search engine and Wikipedia.Information literacy programs at polytechnic libraries should not be taken lightly.

The Study x-rayed diaspora remittance, the Nigerian financial system and sustainable economic development in Nigeria. The study used remittance inflows as measure of Diaspora Remittance and the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as a measure of sustainable economic development. The study examined the absorptive capacity of the Nigerian financial system to mobilize diapora remittance and transform same into sustainable economic growth and development. Content Analysis (CA) technique was deployed to analyse and examine the data collected from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Statistical Bulletins for various years, Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the World Bank Development Indicators data base from 1987 to 2020. The data are comprised of the values of diaspora remittance, Gross Domestic product (GDP) and Official development Assistance (ODA). The analysis of the data revealed that the Nigerian financial system mobilized millions and billions of US dollars in remittance into the economy for the period which span thirty fours years with diaspora remittance reaching its peak of twenty six billion, eight hundred and ninety one million, nine hundred and eighty thousand two hundred dollars in 2011. Between 2011 and 2020, the Nigerian financial system raked in an average of twenty five billion US dollars in remittance inflows into the economy. Following from the foregoing findings, the study recommended that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) being the monetary and regulatory authority of the banking system, should formulate policies that would further encourage the inflow of Diaspora remittance through the banking system such that diaspora remittances are well utilized to boost employment generation in order to engender sustainable economic growth and development.

This study provided evidence that global crises affected the inflation in Nigeria. Analysing data over the 1999Q1-2022Q4 period within the Test of Means and Variances model, this study finds that the magnitude and volatility of inflation in Nigeria changed with crises. While inflation declined after the global financial crisis (GFC), its volatility rose after the crisis. In contrast, inflation rose after the COVID-19 pandemic while the volatility increased. The decline in inflation after the GFC was associated with increase in real GDP, suggesting its inflation-reducing output effects post-GFC. The absence of any significant increase in real GDP after the COVID-19 shows that the pandemic was trailed by stagflation. These results also show that COVID-19 impacted on inflation dynamics in Nigeria differently from how GFC had.

This paper aims to analyze the efforts and challenges of the Value Added Tax (VAT) system in Nigeria from 2000 to 2020. The introduction of VAT in Nigeria was necessary as part of the government’s fiscal planning to mobilize revenues and strengthen the Nigerian economy. The VAT system has been in operation for more than two decades, and its implementation had its challenges and successes. This study seeks to explore the efforts made and challenges encountered by the Nigerian government in the successful implementation of the VAT system/ from the period under review. A qualitative research approach was adopted, and data was gathered through a literature review. The findings of this study revealed that while the introduction of the VAT system has resulted in increased revenues for the government, there are still challenges that need to be addressed. These challenges include poor tax compliance, weak compliance infrastructure, capacity building, inadequate administrative infrastructure, inadequate enforcement, lack of efficiency, inadequate usage of technology, politicization of the system, and inadequate public awareness. The study concludes by suggesting several measures that could be taken to address these challenges and improve the effectiveness of the system.

The rapid growth of the internet and advancements in digital technology has significantly transformed the landscape of media consumption, giving rise to a plethora of online internet-based broadcast media stations. This study therefore, interrogates the online internet-based broadcast media stations, its platforms, implications and emerged paradigms. The researcher embarked on this study basically to examine the diverse platforms of online internet-based broadcast media stations; to assess the implications of online internet-based broadcast media stations on traditional media industries and the evolving media ecosystem and to explore the emerged paradigms of online internet-based broadcast media stations, including user-generated content and the integration of artificial intelligence. This study is anchored on the uses and gratification theory. Using the survey research design, questionnaire was used to elicit responses from the respondents. Findings show that majority of the respondents (31%) noted that social media platforms is one of the most widely used platforms for online internet-based broadcast media stations. Also, a majority of the respondents (31%) noted that one of the implications of online internet-based broadcast media stations on traditional media industries and the evolving media ecosystem is fragmentation of audience. This study recommends that to address concerns regarding misinformation and disinformation, it is crucial to promote platform transparency and accountability. Online media platforms should disclose their content curation algorithms and provide clear guidelines for content moderation.
