Optimal designs of stepped real impedance transformers (IT) with tapered stubs (NS) are presented. Comparative analysis of matching band, reflection coefficient in band and length of stepped IT with NS and uniform stubs (US) is made. It was shown that considered designs have lesser reflection coefficient in matching band and, which is more important, the length of NS less than length of US.

In this paper, the linear self-consistent theory of an amplifier based on the Smith-Parsell effect is developed for a periodical metal structure in terms of metal-dielectric layer field and electron beam interaction. A dispersion equation has been obtained allowing for the analysis of the effect of the metal-dielectric layer exerted on the electromagnetic wave stimulation in such a structure. The electrodynamic amplification system has been experimentally investigated in the mm-wave range.

The paper describes the research into a combined gyroresonance-gyroton mechanism of interaction between a large-orbit helical electron beam and rotating E/sub 11/ and H/sub 11/ mode waves in a circular corrugated waveguide. The research has shown the possibility of designing highly-efficient TWTs, offering an efficiency of about 78%. At the same time, both transverse and longitudinal energy is tapped from an electron beam.

Artificial neural networks are emerging as a powerful technology for RF and microwave characterization, modeling, and design. A neural modeler helps us to immediately start developing neural models for RF/microwave components and circuits and helps to provide neural models for our simulators. In this study, a novel fuzzy neural network structure is used for behavior of an active microwave device. Here, the device is modeled by a black box whose small signal and noise parameters are evaluated through a fuzzy clustering neural network based upon the fitting of both of these parameters.
