The Oral Medicine and Radiology branch is an essential bridge between Dentistry and Medicine. Oral physicians are often sought to manage the oral symptoms or know if the oral disease poses a risk of oral cancer or cross-infection in the clinics. Recent studies indicate an increased prevalence of oral habits-related lesions in India. Hence, proper support of OMR specialists along with a global strategy to promote the clinical practice of Oral Medicine among patients and all other healthcare professionals is inevitable to increase awareness of the specialty, thus encouraging the budding OMR specialist to establish themselves independently in private practice.

Antibioticsplay a major role in the treatment of numerous diseases in the oro-dental region.Dentists need to keep their knowledge updated regarding the pharmacology of antibiotics and there use in the treatment of dental infections for children with a better understanding of action to provide better treatment and also to reduce misuse and over prescription of drugs to inhibit bacterial resistance. This review article is scripted with a motive to provide essential information of the antibiotics used in pediatric dentistry so as to render healthy information to parents and children.

Gingival enlargement is a bizarre condition causing aesthetic, functional, psychological and masticatory problems in oral cavity. Gingival enlargement has been associated with a variety of factors, including medications, inflammation and systemic disorders. Recent periodontal studies have suggested a mild to moderate association between periodontal disease and thyroid disorders due to altered gingival microcirculation compromising the first line of defence which may result in gingival hyperplasia. This case report is an unusual presentation of gingival fibromatosis in a 20 year old girl. The gingival hyperplasia and associated clinical features alerted us to the possibility of altered functioning of the thyroid gland. Subsequent investigations revealed subclinical hypothyroidism. This case report emphasizes, yet again the adage/saying that ‘the oral cavity is the mirror to the body!’

In dental practice, one of the most commonly used mouth wash is chlorhexidine. Because of its antimicrobial, anti plaque action, it is the most commonly used mouth wash. Because of its broad antimicrobial action, its uses is widely scattered in the treatment of various oral diseases. In dentistry it can be used in various formulations like gels, sprays, mouthwashes etc.

Segmental Orthodontics is an essential twig of Pediatric Orthodontics being practiced nowadays in growing children in mixed dentition worldwide. Early interception of malocclusion either involves full arch or a segment of arch to be treated for malocclusion; and when a segment is used, it is calculated as ‘Segmental Orthodontics’. It’s a simplified approach in interceptive orthodontics as it involves only a segment of few teeth which is more children friendly. The present case report displays derotation of maxillary central incisors in a male child with simplified segmental orthodontics in mixed dentition period. The results obtained were satisfactory and rapid. Therefore, this technique can be widely applied to treat such type of mixed dentition malocclusions.

The erosive lesions of the mandible may be of odontogenic or non odontogenic origin and have different destructive capacity. The inflammatory lesions are usually associates with pain; where as destructive lesions may not show initial signs of pain. This report discusses a case report of a 35 year old female with complaints of pain in the right side of the face and radiographic differential diagnosis. In cases of orofacial rehabilitation, quality of life depends upon the outcome of treatment provided by a maxillofacial management team that usually includes oral surgeons, radiologists, prosthodontists, speech specialists and plastic surgeons. Patients with maxillofacial defects often suffer from disturbed psychological status and are often treated as stigma to the society. Prosthodontists have a key role in restoring aesthetics and occlusion of such patients which ultimately aids improve the psychological status and quality of life of such patients. The prosthetic rehabilitation on compromised tissue beds requires meticulous treatment planning and precise execution. Short-listing treatment options become an enigma if conventional approaches for maxillofacial rehabilitation are contraindicated. The following series describes cases of suspected Brown’s tumour (primary hyperparathyroidism) and an odontogenic keratocyst of the mandible in which conventional grafting and implant prostheses were not indicated.

To evaluate the Smear layer generated by three rotary instrumentation techniques Thirty single-rooted freshly extracted teeth were selected for this study, teeth were decoronated at the level of CEJ (Cemento enamel junction) and were divided into three groups for cleaning and shaping of root canals, group I (protaper gold) group II (M two) group III (Hyflex EDM) After splitting the roots longitudinally, the Smear layer generated by each instrument for each root canal was evaluated using a scanning electron microscope and the data obtained was statistically analyzed using Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney U test. Instrumentation with Protaper gold (Group 1) showed the maximum amount of Smear layer generation followed by Hyflex EDM (Group 3) files and VDW Mtwo (Group 2) showed the least values of Smear layer generation. Within the limitations of the study, it can be concluded that Mtwo (group 2) showed better results in removing the Smear layer than Protaper gold and Hyflex EDM file systems.

The aim of this study was to evaluate colour stability of three different composite resins.Thirty disc-shaped specimens of three different light‑cured resin composites Filtek 3M ESPE, Beautifill Injectable (Shofu) and Beautifill 2 (Shofu) were prepared. For evaluation of colour stability, samples were evaluated for baseline color value using a spectrophotometer. Later, color measurements were taken after 1 week immersion in Green Tea by spectrophotometer and color change values were calculated. Statistical analyses were executed by one-way ANOVA and Scheffe’s post hoc procedure. All materials showed significant color change after 1 week (P < 0.05) of immersion in Green Tea, with the lowest color alteration observed at the 1st day and the highest observed after the 7th day. Among the materials tested, the lowest color alteration was detected in Beautifil 2 and the highest color alteration was detected in Filtek Z250XT.All the materials tested for evaluating colour stability showed apparent colour changes after 1 week.
