This paper researches and presents a case study approach to teaching lexical items to facilitate vocabulary acquisition of French for specific purposes. Given a confirmed lack of conventional teaching materials in several domains, the research questions addressed in this study relate to the principles and guidelines for initiating and facilitating foreign languages for specific purposes (LSP) vocabulary learning and to the most effective learning strategies and skills that students use while learning and expanding their LSP vocabulary. The beneficiary target group consists of first-year Romanian students who study Medicine and who have chosen French for Specific Purposes as their second language. Literature and practice have noted a significant deficiency in textbooks and grammar books for Romanian students who want to emigrate to French-speaking countries. Hence, this paper highlights theoretic and practical methods to be considered in terms of teaching French medical vocabulary, based on students’ studying predilections.

The article seeks to explore the meanings associated with food in the film “The HundredFoot Journey” (2014), directed by Lasse Hallström. This paper aims to demonstrate that food represents not only a platform for asserting personal, social, national and cultural differences, but also a means of establishing bonds between people in spite of these differences. The hundred feet in the title represent not only the physical distance between two restaurants, but also the gap between the Indian and the French culture that the protagonist Hassan Kadam needs to cross in order to find his rightful place in the world.

The aim of the present paper is to find out the essence of the discursive moment (understood as an act or an event having a strong social echo which gives rise to a massive amount of texts in the international sphere and in the press space) which was created by the Syrian crisis from August-September 2013 in the Romanian public diplomacy. To this purpose, we will use and analyse a heterogeneous corpus of texts belonging to different genres (press releases, interviews, public discourses) and we will outline the specialized expressions referring to international conflicts (recorded by the documents of international law) and the glosses of these expressions in order to depict the rhetoric and discursive manner in which they are used in these genres. We will also focus on the linguistic markers of the speakers taking part in the three-sided communication situation: the specialized discourse of International Law – mediation text – large audience. Another aim will be the manner in which the texts of international law are used (throughout quotation, allusions and also the adherence of the discourse to the legal articles).

The challenges faced by minority languages in the contemporary linguistic landscape have been a relevant topic for several years. With global languages claiming an increasing share of speakers, smaller, community-based languages have been neglected in favour of the lingua franca. The paper aims to present several possible ways in which this linguistic exposure can be transformed into a potential boon for language education and maintenance in smaller languages, rather than being a hinderance. These new methods are based on using commonly consumed media as a medium to achieve increased language usage and recognition.

In the past few years all aspects of social and economic life were significantly impacted by the global pandemic, forcing everyone to reconsider familiar ways of doing things and carrying on with their personal and professional plans. Higher education was not an exception, and all the stakeholders involved in the educational system had to cope with numerous challenges and adapt quickly to many changes in all areas of their activity: teaching and learning, evaluating and grading, interaction between teachers and students and among peers, or administrative issues. This article aims to discuss the first two elements from this list and to show how the shift to exclusively online academic interaction triggered reconfigurations of the evaluation systems used in universities. While, as the title of the paper indicates, we would like to concentrate our attention on changes in assessment, we also consider that teaching and learning methods have a strong impact on how acquisition and development of skills is evaluated and that neither of the two aspects can be discussed without making some reference to the other.

This paper will examine the important role that the Arts have played in helping to cope with drastic changes in all aspects of life brought about the COVID-19 pandemic declared by W.H.O. on March 11th 2020, which resulted in an unprecedented lockdown across the globe. The paper will focus on two vital functions of the Arts especially relevant in these difficult times – first the redemptive aspect of the Arts, and equally, its importance as a tool to critique the fault lines around us that have come to the fore because of this national/global crisis. The paper willstress upon the compassionate aspect of the Arts in the newly defined digital world.

The paper aims at an analysis based on the practical experience of the way in which the new online context of courses in German as a foreign language as changed rules and rituals. The analysis shows an increase in the importance of rituals in the courses as well as the need to adopt new rules to ensure a good teaching quality. During the online courses, rituals become very important to ensure a sense of belonging to the group, resulting in a better focus of attention and an increase in "time on task.".

This article aims to tackle the significant shifts in academic and administrative communication in higher education in view of the necessity to adapt to changes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will, additionally, suggest a list of benefits and drawbacks as seen from the perspective of language trainers caught in the overbearing landslide brought upon by the unprecedented conditions. While being fully aware that this paper will join an already extensive plethora of international academic studies on the subject, we, the authors, consider it is relevant nevertheless, since it is only by sharing common experiences and successful and not so successful stories that we can find solutions, learn from each other and at the same time reconquer the feeling of community that the pandemic has affected to a large extent.
