This work shows the methodology development process for generation 3d computer models of the patients with femoral diaphysis fracture, who was participated in a clinic study. The leg model was constructed from lateral and frontal radiographs of the fracture (after being stabilized) so it is unique to each patient. The volumes considered for the reconstruction were: the femoral diaphysis, the fracture, the fracture zone, muscle and the skin. For the reconstruction process was performed positioning and coupling orthogonal radiographs, subsequently performed independently for each component of the 3D model, the superficial construction process using different techniques of space projection and intersection with the assistance of parametric software, finally the solids for all the model components are obtained and they are coupled making the necessary Boolean operations in order to assemble them and avoid get any interferences between tem, achieving this way a model that represents adequately the volumetric structure of the leg and it's components, based on the frontal and lateral images of the interest zone.

The functional prediction of proteins is one of main purposes of computational biology. Many techniques have been developed to solve this problem. Methods based on alignments of sequences like BLASTP are the most commonly used. However, these techniques have been criticized due to their on failures detecting homologous sequences under some identity thresholds between sequences. Although this is an argument frequently cited, there are no plublished studies truly showing the performance variances regarding the identity percentage between sequences. This study is fundamental to support studies that look for developing alternative methods. The present work contains an analysis of the influence of identity percentage between training sequences for BLASTP in the ontology annotation of proteins belonging to Embryophyta organisms (land plants).

Most hearing impaired people suffer from hearing loss in both ears, which is called a binaural hearing loss. To deal with these hearing losses, independent hearing aids have been typically used. However, psycho-acoustical studies using these prescriptions show that under hostile environments, e.g., babble noise at low SNR, people with a binaural hearing loss report an uncomfortable sound. In this sense, new generation hearing aids, called binaural hearing aids, have been proposed to include a wireless link to exchange information between both hearing devices. Although different noise-reduction methods have been proposed to be used in binaural hearing aids, they are impractical due to their hardware requirements such as computational complexity and wireless transmission bandwidth. In this paper, we propose binaural noise-reduction strategies based on multichannel Wiener filter (MWF) that reduces computational complexity and transmission bandwidth. The proposed strategy is compared to other existing MWF method, showing that our proposed method provides significant advantages.

Autonomous systems can assist humans in the important task of safe driving. Such systems can warn people about possible risks, take actions to avoid accidents or guide the vehicle without human supervision. Whether in cars or trains or ships the artificial vision algorithms offer an alternative for the design and implementation of autonomous driving systems. In railway scenarios cameras in front of the train can assist drivers with the identification of obstacles or strange objects on the rails. Multiple factors add huge complexity to this task. The changing conditions create a scene where background is hard to detect, lighting varies and process speed must be fast. This article describes a first approximation to the problem where using the Hough transform, the rails and area of interest are detected. On this area a systematic search is done for finding and delimiting possible obstacles. Our system accomplished a real time performance when employed in the analysis of recorded videos from the driver perspective. Using digital added obstacles our algorithm detects mostly all of them and warns if the objects over the rail can create a danger to the safety travel of the train.

A study of kinematic performance of the manipulator with six degrees of freedom KUKA KR5 ARC HW, used in welding arc is presented. The performance of this manipulator will be measured in terms of efficiency in the movement of its joints, making movement of the end-effector. The measure used is called manipulability index, which was proposed by Yoshikawa and will be the basis for calculating the manipulator performance. The manipulability index is one of the parameters to optimize of a multiobjective method of trajectory planning in serial manipulators used in welding. The index highlights among other measures because allows to quantify the proximity of the robot to a singularity, which is ideal for identifying paths welding with continuous and soft movements at the robot joints.

The aim of this paper is the automatic generation of probability lesion maps from a color retinography analysis. A probability map determines the degree of belonging of each pixel in a given set. This process is based on three sequences of procedures: A set of attributes (contrasts enhancement zones), a suppression of artifacts obstacles and a setting of value of each pixel belong to a bright lesion, using probabilistic mapping by supervised classification. The validation of the results was carried out by comparing the subsequent binary map with prior probabilistic diagnosis. The results were analyzed by mean square error (MSE) between resulting diagnosis and diagnostic specialist. MSE was reached of 1.22 on a set of 40 images DIARECTDB1 repository.

In this paper is presented the design of a tracking and trayectory generation robotic system in a testing environment Robocup (small size category) by the prediction of movements using Kalman filters and the optimal trajectory generation by implementing B-spline curves. In the different results obtained it was found that the Kalman filter facilitates the prediction of robotic agents with small processing times and curves B-splines by optimizing the control points allowed to generate smooth curves for obstacle avoidance.

The filling process of holes or anomalies related to absence of information in three-dimensional digital models implies human intervention for selecting holes to be corrected. Automate such process requires the characterization of contours of holes in model surface. Recent works are restricted to do this characterization using differential geometry properties of curves, torsion and curvature. Other features such as contour symmetry and similarity with predefined geometric shapes are of great relevance for hole-classification by the human expert. These characteristics are not extractable by differential geometry of curves, thus require other types of representations. This paper presents a method to obtain a representation of 3D chain code from an unstructured sequence of points of a hole contour in the surface of a 3D model. This approximates a NURBS curve to smooth the contour of the hole and minimize the effect of noise in the data. Then use Bresenham algorithm for structuring the points by an array of dimension 3×3×3. Finally, the chain code is calculated by an indexing algorithm. The results show this method preserves the shape and contour behavior, structures the point set and allow to obtain efficiently the chain code representation.

This article presents the results obtained using adaptive digital filter FIR to compensate the spectral components of the human voice signal attenuated to be acquired in experiments that simulate amplification devices for people with oral communication difficulties. The signals used are human voice recordings taken at the level of the throat in young subjects as a reference signal and a voice signal acquired from the same subject at the mouth. The results obtained show that the adaptation process provides a set of coefficients that are the basis for designing FIR digital filter with the ability to make the voice signal level of the throat and compensate for attenuated components.

This work describes the using of cascaded classifiers to identify heart-beat patterns. These patterns belong to classes no considered during training. We employed supervised learning machines such as support vector machines (SVM) and multilayer perceptron (MLP). The cascaded classifiers were validated with 5 different kinds of heart-beats. The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) was used for feature extraction. For each decomposition level, only the 4 largest coefficients were taken from approximations and details. The DWT uses 6 decomposition levels and Daubechies-4 mother wavelet. The achieved classification error was 3,55%.
