Meskipun kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan berpikir kritis siswa telah ditetapkan sebagai tujuan utama mata pelajaran matematika, namun hasilnya cenderung kurang memuaskan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan berpikir kritis matematis siswa dengan menggunakan pembelajaran berbasis masalah (PBL). Desain quasi-experimental digunakan dalam penelitian ini yang melibatkan 78 (31 laki-laki dan 47 perempuan) siswa kelas V sebagai sampel. Siswa dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok eksperimen (n = 39) dan kelompok kontrol (n = 39). Penelitian ini dilakukan di sebuah sekolah dasar di Indonesia pada semester pertama tahun pelajaran 2019/2020. Tes Keterampilan Pemecahan Masalah (PSST) dan Tes Keterampilan Berpikir Kritis (CTST) diberikan untuk memperoleh data. Tes MANOVA Satu Arah dan ANOVA digunakan untuk menganalisis data pada tingkat signifikansi 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa pada kelompok eksperimen memiliki nilai post-test yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol dalam hal kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis dan berpikir kritis. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa PBL efektif meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan berpikir kritis siswa kelas lima.
