One of main contributions to the consumption of energy in buildings is the heating, ventilation and air condition (HVAC) system. In fact, it consumes more than half of the energy. Multi-HVAC systems can be seen as an intermediate level of modeling, composed by different HVAC subsystems (e.g. boilers, chillers, heat pumps, among others), that define their operations and enabling the simulation of their behavior at a given time. The main purpose is to develop effective control systems with multi-objective optimization to improve the energy efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the cities. This article proposes the simulation of the behavior and operations of different HVAC subsystems in a particular building making use of physical models. The objective is achieved with different approaches, taking the functional specifications provided by the vendors of the HVAC subsystems.

During the last decades, the sugar cane distillery industry in Peru has shown a stagnation in the production levels causing a fall in the levels of product rotation. This caused a lower economic flow in the main sugar cane (Cañazo) companies impacting negatively the industry sector. This sector is aiming their efforts on reducing their operational costs and performing more efficient processes, in order to remain competitive in the current market. However, the increase in the operating costs and the challenges of obtaining the products with low organoleptic quality have negatively impacted the supply chain. In the Andean region of Apurímac (Peru) there are currently about a dozen of companies that present efficiency problems in addition of the contamination have negatively impacted the manufacturing and product quality, despite the efforts of implementing other traditional management models. This paper proposes the implementation of two management models: safety food management and effective process management; these two models applied simultaneously will show an improvement in operating results and profitability through the supply chain.

The main objective of this work has been to develop a methodology that allows for short-term operative programming, predicting the hourly demand of electric power in the National Interconnected System (NIS). It is considering the operational, economic and contractual restrictions for the dispatch of power, in order to reduce the purchase costs of power and energy of the ´Administración Nacional de Electricidad´ (ANDE) from Paraguay. For this aim, the influence of different factors on the demand for electricity in Paraguay has been analyzed, with the scheme of identifying those with the greatest impact, to be used later in a demand forecast model. Considering the complexity of the demand series, this forecast has been made with Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). Together with the operating conditions of the NIS, which impose physical and contractual restrictions, considering associated dispatch costs and the system load curve, estimated through the ANN, an optimization model has been developed, implemented through Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP), whose objective function is to reduce daily costs by dispatching the plants that supply the NIS. Particular instances were verified to corroborate the correct functioning of the MILP model. Subsequently, the integration of the ANN with the MILP model was carried out, simulating various scenarios to verify the robustness of the proposed methodology, providing encouraging results in relation to the accuracy of the forecast of the demand, the feasibility of the prescribed dispensing and the reduction of the costs for purchasing power and energy.

One of the applications of coal as a fuel is the production of gas through circulating fluidized bed technology. The modeling of these systems allows verifying and optimizing the design and operation parameters of gasifiers for analysis and improvement of gasification technologies. The present study applies the fundamentals of modeling a circulating fluidized bed reactor for the gasification of lignite coal at atmospheric pressure, using air and steam as a gasifying agent. The equations governing multiphase flow are described including mass, momentum and energy transport. The Eulerian-Eulerian approach is applied in two dimensions to describe and solve the constitutive equations. The kinetic model considers eight gaseous species, including CO, CO2, CH4, H2, H2O, N2, O2, Tar and four pseudo solid species, including fixed carbon, volatile matter, moisture and ash. The hydrodynamic behavior of the model is analyzed and the resulting species fractions from the gasification process are compared with experimental data.

Thin films of SnO2 (TO) and SnO2: F (FTO) were prepared by spray pyrolysis technique on glass substrate. The UV-visible spectra show well-defined interference fringes and an average transmittance in the visible region of about 74 and 81% for TO and FTO, respectively. The dielectric function was determined through the classical Drude-Lorentz dispersion model. The bands of the imaginary dielectric function are associated with metal-like electrons, transitions in the band gap, and transitions within the conduction band due to oxygen vacancies in the rutile structure. The first principles calculations are also presented and discussed, using the Density Functional Theory (DFT) performed on the intrinsic TO and TO with oxygen vacancy in the tetragonal structure.

Currently public transport (buses), as it is known today, presents many irregularities in terms of user perception, having great problems in waiting times between buses, the inconvenience of not knowing how long the bus takes to be desired the user to reach his current position. The development of complex solutions that help solve problems of today's society is an objective of the disciplinary work that characterizes computing. This article presents the results of a project that consists of developing a platform for geolocation of buses, so that any user with a mobile device can see the position in real time of the bus in a certain route. You can know the time of arrival to each booth or bus stop and the distance of the user's current location. This promotes the updating of public transport (buses), facilitates control of the transport network, reduces the uncertainty of users to find the nearest bus and generates a presence system between user and driver.

Cosmologically, the stellar bars within the galaxies are recognized as an important internal factor because they redistribute the angular momentum of all the matter in the galaxy. The objective of this work is to compare the results of detection of stellar bars in images constructed by varying the presence of external elements. The group of galaxies used in the present study are: M83 (NGC5236), M66 (NGC3627) and NGC2903. The IRAF ISOPHOTE / ELLIPSE tool is used to perform the analysis of the surface brightness distribution for each galaxy. The structure of a bar can be recognized by a characteristic change of ellipticity (e) and the position angle (P.A.) from the analysis of the isophotes. Finally, we got positive results detecting the central bar in each of the studied galaxies and we found that the results do not depend on the type of the image.

Anemia has become one of the diseases most commonly caused by undernutrition worldwide. It mostly affects children at pre school age and women at reproductive age in developing countries. Various campaigns around the world have been carried out to eradicate it. However, this situation persists. Therefore, the consumption of a drink based on the quinoa leaf is proposed for the cure of anemia. This work demonstrates the economic viability of this product and the market´s acceptance. In addition, it´s an easy to manufacture product with low production costs, which makes the investment and developtment of the product commercially attractive for a government or private company. This product is highly effective in curing anemia and confirming the interest in its consumption, especially in low-income sectors due to its low price.
