This study aims to explore the portrayal of the Fountain of Youth and the myth of the Flood in movies. Firstly, the meaning of the water myth is explained. Then, the focus shifts to how the myth of the Fountain of Youth and the Flood are depicted in different mythologies. The study utilizes qualitative method and thematic content analysis, selecting six films through purposive sampling. The analysis incorporates Joseph Campbell’s Monomyth theory and Klaus Koch’s work on the eight features of the apocalypse. The study reveals how these myths are reproduced through sub-themes identified within the main themes of the Fountain of Youth and the Flood. The results indicate that films present the myth of the Fountain of Youth in various forms. Heroes have different motivations for seeking the Fountain of Youth and encounter various obstacles. Characters who reach the Fountain of Youth undergo significant positive transformations. In flood narratives depicted in movies, the cause of the flood and the awareness of it differ from film to film. Furthermore, other movie findings illustrate who boarded the ship or vehicle to escape the flood and who faced punishment.

The article analyzes the process of the formation of the image of Stalingrad in 1942-1943. The purpose of the study is to examine, based on American cartoons, documentary films, and periodicals, the main points in the evolution of the attitude of American society towards Stalingrad, as well as to demonstrate the complexities and contradictions in understanding the features of the USSR. The study of cartoons will help determine the nature of the interaction between textual and visual images in the US media during the discussion of the outcomes of Stalingrad. The analysis results in highlighting a typology of visual images of Stalingrad.

In a relatively short period of time, social networks have become a unique source of personal data, providing information about the interests, values, and environments of billions of real people. The purpose of this paper is to determine the potential of applying social network analysis techniques to assess the online interactions of Russian youth in the context of regional differences. In the empirical part of the study, we focused on the largest regional groups (284 communities) in the social network VKontakte, where users discuss socio-political topics. The sample size consisted of 4,020,268 people aged 14 to 35 across Russia. Our analysis allowed assessing the proximity of groups to each other within specific regions or federal districts. Additionally, we determined the density (connectedness) of communities for each region. As a result, we demonstrated the potential of network analysis in exploring the connections between subscribers to online communities and the nature of association among these communities across federal districts. We identified some disconnected objects from the overall network of interaction, which could be explained by regional specificities or differences in community topics.

This qualitative research examined the utility of film for political propaganda purposes and behavioral change objectives. It critically assesses how film, as a communication medium, has been optimized in constructing a national rebirth philosophy tagged “New Nigeria” political constructs. The objectives of the study were to demystify the political propaganda strategies adopted by the filmmakers in propagating the “new Nigeria” national philosophy and to unearth the latent and manifest socio-political propaganda themes embedded in the film that reinforce the ‘new Nigeria’ political philosophy. In ascertaining the potentials of film in projecting propagandists’ ideologies, the film “If I am President” (Bright Obasi, 2018) was thematically deconstructed using the qualitative content analysis research design. The “New Nigeria” political constructs content-analyzed were placed into discourse paradigms, and discussions were attempted using the critical discourse analytical method. A deconstruction of the latent socio-political themes in the film revealed the filmmakers’ subtle utilisation of mental conditioning, mental provocativeness, ‘scapegoatism’, psycho-emotional articulation, appeal to socio-political action, and entertainment-education political propaganda strategies in projecting the “New Nigeria” national philosophy for social action through behavior change. The dominant “New Nigeria” political philosophies expressed in the film included, but were not limited to, leanings suggesting national rebirth, nation-building, socio-political egalitarianism, youth activism, digitization of national politics, techno-democracy, zero tolerance for corruption, and tolerance across racial, religious, tribal, ethnic, and political lines. These philosophies are the ideals suggested in the film as cardinal constructs and conditions for the rebirth of a new nation, thus, “New Nigeria”.

The Internet has a significant impact on the perception of time and its organization. There is a growing body of literature that recognizes the importance of measuring social time in relation to the virtual communities of social media. The dynamics of communication in virtual communities largely depend on the time strategies that shape the content plan of a particular medium. Based on contemporary theories such as the concept of ‘timeless time’, we analyze the features of the temporal characteristics of the Internet, considering the multiple dimensions of time in virtual communities. This study aims to identify time strategies depending on their types (e.g., belonging to the certain platform, or target audience). The research is based on posts from 99 politicized virtual communities on the Vk.com and Telegram platforms in 2022. We employ heatmaps and combine them with cluster analysis. As a result, certain patterns of temporal strategies within communities became apparent, depending on the hour, day of the week, and month. We also establish a connection between time strategies and the event context of 2022. This article may be of interest to sociologists, political scientists, and researchers in cultural and communication studies who are interested in applied aspects of social time research.

Digital educational platforms emerged as an anticipated technological response to the need for the modernization of higher education. The digitalization of education was promoted at the state level as a strategy and an instrument to improve the quality and competitiveness of education. In 2020, the coronavirus pandemic accelerated the transition from the classroom to online-only, revealing the lack of purposeful online teaching methods, and insufficient digital competence among teachers. The authors analyzed publications by foreign and Russian researchers to highlight the common problems of higher education digitalization, including datafication, limited capabilities of digital educational platforms, and the changing role of the teachers in e-learning. The article focuses on students’ attitudes towards online education, and their voluntary or unwilling involvement in the digital educational environment, considering synchronous, asynchronous, and blended forms of learning before and during the pandemic. The achieved results suggest that such factors as the novelty and accessibility of online courses at Western universities initially served as a factor of attraction the students, inviting them to diversify their studies in their own creative way. However, increased stress and workload, various technical problems, tough teachers’ control on the one hand, and poor feedback, on the other, weakened the popularity of the digital educational environment. When asked to compare the pros and cons of online education, most students spoke in favour of maintaining the blended education format, as it allows for reducing the workload and – to some extent – enables the students to take control of their education trajectories. This work is intended for educators and researchers interested in the challenges caused by integrating digital technologies into traditional forms of education.

This article highlights the view of conceptual advertising as a process of Resacralization of Spiritual Practices (RSP). To analyze the empirical material, the authors propose using a Hierarchical Metamodel of Communication. In the context of the growth of intangible production, both the advertised product and the advertising product itself are undergoing transformation. To study the patterns of dissemination of ideas (non-material products of culture) based on a Hierarchical Metamodel of Communication, RSP is considered as a Method of Conceptual Advertising (MCA). The authors illustrate this through the values and principles of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (ROC), introducing the concept of Orthodox Resacralization of Spiritual Practices (ORSP). The paper analyzes a small amount of empirical material, — the minimum necessary to demonstrate the validity of the proposed theoretical model. The author’s interdisciplinary approach is based on subordinating qualitative methods of the sociology of culture and analytical and semiotic methods to general scientific methods of comparison and typology. As a result, the article reveals the prospects for methodological enrichment of the theory of advertising and PR, as well as the pragmatic metamodel of communication of the relational theory of communication. The authors propose uniting the efforts of theorists and practitioners of advertising and PR, experts in the fields of social and intercultural communication, as well as theologians and researchers of religions, to analyze the applicability of the proposed theoretical model in various cultural locations.

The article deals with epistemological, aesthetic and communicative aspects of time. The metalanguage of the study is the system of artistic communication. Understanding time as duration, the author uses A. Bergson’s theory of duration which has become relevant in the context of post-non-classical trends in the development of science. This study is based on a phenomenological analysis of the artistic communication of the twentieth century (avant-garde painting, media art, modern music, photography), and takes into account the concepts of time of G. Deleuze, multiple temporalism of I. Wallerstein and F. Braudel, ideas of E. Husserl and M. Heidegger. The study showed that in the conditions of the information society, the duration of social interactions changes, diachrony at the communication maximum is compressed into synchrony. Art objects, in which the reception of culture is carried out, display individual and social time, and also convey qualitative transitions and temporal layers through the procedures of duration compression and stretching.
