For the widespread use of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs), a huge number of challenges must be solved by vehicle manufacturers, in contrast they do have significant potential to increase road safety in both passenger and freight transport. In addition to reducing road traffic accidents and traffic jams, AVs also offer a major opportunity to reduce pollutant emissions and CO2 emissions from environmental point of view. In order to implement accident-free traffic, also called Vision Zero, it is essential to examine the safety and reliability of AVs. This article analyzes road traffic accident data and the potential safety benefits of AVs. Furthermore, the paper also sets the safety of the conventional vehicles against AVs and examines the type, location, causes, and dynamics of the accidents. The article also provides an overview over the current development trends and challenges, such as the risk of cyber-attacks, the necessary improvements in sensing technologies, and the not insignificant moral issue of AVs.

This research demonstrates the percentage of drivers and pedestrians understanding the traffic sign in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The survey was conducted among 634 drivers inside and outside of Dhaka city. Moreover, 508 pedestrians participated in the survey within Dhaka city. In comparison, there were 863 male respondents and 279 female respondents among 1142 respondents. The survey took the form of multiple-choice questions that included the picture attached to each sign. However, the survey questionnaires included a few questions regarding driver gender, age, educational qualification, and driving experience. Similarly, the survey questionnaires for pedestrians had also been discussed questions regarding pedestrian gender, age, educational qualification, and job status. The overall traffic sign understanding of drivers was 68.68%. Moreover, the comprehensive traffic signs understanding of pedestrians was 64.5%. The findings showed that the drivers had a medium degree of understanding of the traffic sign’s meaning. However, the study results showed that efforts are needed to educate the drivers and pedestrians about the proper interpretation and reaction to traffic signals.

The boarding process is the role activity to maintain the airline's efficiency in the turnaround process on the ground. One of the scenarios to optimize the boarding process is the arrangement of passengers who enter the plane based on the amount of carry-on luggage, adjusted to the selected boarding strategy. This research aims to develop an agent-based simulation model to increase the effectiveness of passengers' boarding process by applying the luggage arrangement method for an airplane with a 180-seat configuration. The simulation results showed that applying the Ascending luggage arrangement method reduced the overall boarding process performance by 6.12%, while the Descending method increased boarding performance by 2.50%, compared to the standard Random method.

The existence of different types of Commercial Vehicles (CVs) in the shared roadway affects traffic flow characteristics differently from other vehicles. Owing to the uncertain placement and movement of these CVs in both longitudinal and lateral directions, the opportunities for lane changing and overtaking by other vehicles with lower maneuverability decrease, resulting in the formation of platoons. The study's primary aim is to assess the effect of mixed traffic platoons formed by three different classes of CVs on highway traffic speed, flow, and density under two different traffic regimes (regimes A and B). In this study, regime A represents the non-platooning condition, and regime B represents the platooning condition. Bi-directional traffic data was collected from the highway sections in India using an Infra-Red sensor-based device. The critical leading time headway is determined for the different CVs (platoon leaders) based on the mean absolute relative speed of platoons. The speed-flow-density plots are established using the macroscopic fundamental diagrams for the highway sections under regimes A and B to quantify the platooning impacts of CVs on the traffic characteristics. The study findings reveal that the speed at capacity, density at capacity, and traffic capacity decreased significantly due to CVs' influence on the general traffic mix during the mixed traffic platooning conditions. However, this effect was found to be relatively higher during the Heavy Commercial Vehicle operation as a platoon leader compared to Medium Commercial Vehicle and Light Commercial Vehicle as a platoon leader.

Thanks to the increasing speed of technological development brought by the 21st century, many of the processes in industrial production have been automated. The next big step in this progress of artificial intelligence could potentially be in corporate logistics, road haulage, and even private transport. Naturally, automation within corporations and in critical infrastructure raises ethical and trust-related issues, reflected in the attitude of emerging markets toward this form of development. This research aims to discover the current state of development of self-driving vehicles through comprehensive literary research and to present those ethical problems, the solutions to which are paramount for society to accept and to incorporate the concept of self-driving vehicles. As a result of the analysis of a knowledge-based system with the inductive inference method in primary research, the current strengths and weaknesses of automation in the field of logistics are revealed. The paper summarizes the results of the primary research and projects them for the future of automation.

The article examines tools, which may be used to assess service quality in aviation and to analyze service quality models. Many experts analyzing customer service state that a good customer service is one of the most important reasons for customer satisfaction and loyalty. This is particularly important in aviation customer service, because aviation services are subject to higher requirements due to the specifics of the service. In pursuit of the top-level customer service, refining customer needs and expectations becomes very important, because knowing customer expectations allows purposefully focusing the customer service process based on them and achieving high customer satisfaction. Also, the nature of customer service in aviation is different; here staff must be trained with more scrutiny and examples of specific situations. In order to investigate the quality of customer service, conducting a theoretical analysis of customer needs or service criteria alone is not sufficient. Customer service quality is perceived differently due to a variety of factors, thus service quality models are used to find out customer expectations or to identify service gaps, also helping to conduct analyses and to improve processes. The analysis of customer service models revealed that they have not been adapted for aviation due to the following: their focus on a single service factor, the lack of relationship between components, neglected role of employees in customer service, and the like.

The observed development of ferry transport in the Baltic Sea is associated with the development of trade exchange between the countries of this region. Cargo transportation constitutes a significant part of these carriages. Disturbances in the organization and implementation of transport chains with the participation of ferry shipping may cause delays in the delivery of cargo to customers. Therefore, it is reasonable to look for solutions to streamline the organization of these processes. The aim of the article is to identify the current state and to analyze the organization of the process of cargo transportation with the use of ferry shipping. The ferry line connecting the ports of Liepaja (Latvia) and Travemünde (Germany) was considered in details. On the basis of surveys carried out among truck drivers and owners of transport companies on the ways of transport organization, the selected aspects related to the planning of the transport process with the use of ferry shipping were determined. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained, recommendations were made to improve the organization of cargo transportation in ferry shipping.

The present article is addressing the problem of street noise investigation in urban agglomeration and the simulation of protection devices against noise. Noise levels were measured in the vicinity of the national road in Bieruń, Silesia in Poland. The publication attempts to assess the acoustic climate between a roundabout and an intersection. Based on the measured noise, the acoustic mapping was made in the SoundPlan program. The range of noise impact from the examined road section was determined. Finally, two concepts of preventive measures limiting the excessive impacts on the environment were presented, along with the indication of the impact on building development, business operations as well as transport links and traffic.

This paper aims to present a brief summary of the technological background of a large-scale integration of High Speed WIM systems, and their effect on road usage. Detailed statistical analyses of preliminary results were conducted. The introduction of vehicle in motion dynamic mass measurement system in Hungary had not caused significant changes in road usage in the investigated period on the investigated road segment. The ratio between nationality (domestic or foreign) of heavy road vehicles had not changed due to introduction of vehicle in motion dynamic mass measurement system.
