Laser and photodetector packages for microwave optical transmission 微波光传输用激光和光电探测器封装

Optoelectronic packages for microwave diode lasers and PIN photodiodes have been developed that preserve RF integrity of the devices to beyond 15 GHz, provide effective optical coupling to single-mode fiber, and, in the case of the laser, thermally stabilize operation over wide ambient conditions.

Loss and mode characteristics of oversized waveguides and resonators 超大波导和谐振器的损耗和模式特性

Oversized waveguides and resonators offer advantageous solutions of the waveguiding and circuit problems at millimeter-wave frequencies. They have low losses and high Q factors in comparison with rectangular waveguides of standard sizes and with miniaturized structures, such as microstrip and fin line. Also, manufacturing of integrated circuits based on suitable types of oversized structures is inexpensive. The sizes which are in the magnitude of millimeters are relatively small and, if compared with the usual dimensions of antennas, practical. Miniaturized structures, in comparison with the required antenna dimensions, are only marginally practical.

A comparison has been made of line-of-sight propagation over a 500 m path at millimetre, infrared and optical wavelengths, under a wide variety of meteorological conditions. The results indicate that, for climates prone to conditions of fog, the millimetric region of the electromagnetic spectrum provides a more effective and reliable means of communication.

A comparison of the tuning, gain, saturation, and beam-quality-related restrictions of metal-grating and dielectric-film free-electron lasers will be presented. While recent operation of the former has resulted in tunable radiation in the low mm wavelength band, indications are that the device may readily be scaled to operate at submm, far-infrared, and possibly shorter wavelengths. For the latter, operation to date has been well into the FIR. These results, and an in depth look at the prospects of the metal-grating FEL, will also be summarized.

A significant program Is currently underway 1n the United States to Investigate, develop, and produce a variety of GaAs analog circuits for use 1n microwave and millimeter wave sensors and systems. This represents a “new wave” of RF technology which promises to significantly change system engineering thinking relative to RF Architectures. At millimeter wave frequencies, we look forward to a relatively high level of critical component integration based on MESFET and HEMT device Implementations. These designs will spawn more compact RF front ends with colocated antenna/transceiver functions and innovative packaging concepts which will survive and function 1n a typical military operational environment which includes challenging temperature, shock, and special handling requirements.

Two types of frequency independent planar antennas on thick dielectrics, the log-spiral and log-periodic, have been designed, fabricated and characterized at millimeter wave frequencies. Measured beam patterns displayed beam widths and side lobe angles comparable to theory, and increasing the number of terminals produced similar patterns.

This paper describes a multielement parallel scanning infrared imaging systems and shows that the instantaneous field of view determined by the y-direetion center space of the adjacent sensitive area is a important parameter for calculating the systems noise equivalent, bandwidth, and designing a two-dimensional scanning system. The limited and inaccurate calculations of the systems noise equivalent bandwidth, in previous article are pointed out and the new calculation equations given in this paper are available.

Properties of evaporated ge thin-films for warm carrier devices 热载流子器件用蒸发锗薄膜的性能

Recently, there has been growing interest in thin-film antenna-coupled infrared laser detectors. In the thin-film infrared laser detectors, the warm carrier devices have been fabricated using the single crystal Ge wafer(1). But if these devices could be fabricated by using Ge thin-films deposited on insulating substrates, it would be attractive for flexibility of fabrication of the device structure. The responsivity of these devices, on the other hand, is proportional to the carrier mobility of semiconductor films(2). Therefore, semiconducting-films with large carrier mobility are necessary instead of the single crystal Ge wafer.

Simulation for the operation characteristics of cusptron oscillators cusptron振荡器工作特性的仿真

The operation characteristics of cusptron tubes are studied. We have evaluated the functional dependences of the saturation efficiencies on the beam energy, and on the ratio of the outer and inner radii of the tubes for three different cyclotron harmonics, i.e. N0 = 8, 10 and 12, and for both π mode and 2π mode operation.
